  • I guess you don't know not know s**t about tampers

that machine once you understand the machine and how it works

    It does "great work"!

  • Its a nonunion piece of shit and so is HARSCO

  • @the21stcenturyhero - What union?

  • the tamper mk 6 uses infrared light from front projector buggie over the shadowboards housed next to the clampframe and is recieved in rear buggy.the alignment system is computer asstd. the clampframe lifts ,lines and superelevates the rail and the tamper workheads consolidate the ballast just beneath the lifted ties.fairmont tamper has the best tampers, i know as i have tamped 1000,s of miles, with cprail

  • Nice.

What does that thing exactly do? It looks like it's moving stones but at same time I see another piece moving around, but I can't see what is doing.

  • From Wikipedia: "A ballast tamper or tamping machine is a machine used to pack (or tamp) the track ballast under railway tracks to make the tracks more durable."

  • Or put another way, it aligns the track, both vertically and horizontally, by packing the ballast beneath the sleepers by the amount required to attain the desired final alignment. Takes more than one run to achieve it - usually makes about three runs. The ballast regulator also makes passes in between tamps, brushing and shaping the ballast formation, and bringing in excess ballast from the sides onto the sleepers for the tamper to work with.
