Isn't it weird how movies can give context to music and make people love/hate the music as a result? Some people will like already the music for what it is before the movie, but the movie suddenly brings a lot of new fans who like it because it reminds them of the movie. It pisses me off that movies and ads have this power over music. Sometimes I'd like to know if I'd have liked the music anyway if it weren't for that association, but I'll never know cos the movie or ad got there first.
@hearditman Yes, there was also that documentary Ringo directed about T.Rex, on which Ringo played the drums on a few live performances filmed in John Lennon's mansion.
I will never forget my very first concert was TRex at the Hordern Pavillion 1973. Managed to touch both Marc and Mickey Finn who was on bongo drums, I was at the stage. Awesome then and still brings a smile to my face whenever I think of Marc Bolan.
It's sad to think that there's probably never going to be a similar artist like Marc Bolan, but at least we can appreciate the wonderful music he provided us with, so don't let there be any Youtube hate and just enjoy his unique, wonderful music?
Seems everyone is ignoring the most basic Marc Bolin fact: the boy sounded good on drugs. Not that I ever did any LSD or other illicit stuff. Of courssssse not. But I've heard that his little soft voice and the soft rock qualities of his band mates and their music had a lot to do with his popularity. Just a thought, friends... It could be true. Lamar
I'm really depressed right now... Now I'm 21... I really wanted to learn to dance, to do ballet, to play the piano, to travel overseas, to have adventures... I'm kinda like a grown up kid... Now I'm stuck in the school... I feel like shit, don't have time for me, don't know myself that well. I just hope life gets better... I feed on it. I just ask to the cosmic forces within us to give me something, to give me fire or whatever the hell they want to give me... To let me live my life and be happy.
My first ever record was "Ride a White Swan"I am 52 now and every track brings back massive powerful thoughts and memories. What a fucking wasted talent wrapped around atree in Barnes. Is there a God????
Is it wrong to understand, the fear that dwells inside a man?
Truly beautiful and poetically lovely.
But to me, the beauty in reminiscing... is exactly that.
It reminds me of my youth and a "better" time.
I absolutely adore Marc Bolan. But that's not all. Do you know who you are, You are what you is. You is what you am, a cow don't make ham. You ain't what you're not, so see what you got, you are what you is and that's all it is. Someone name that track...
@3232groundhog perhaps a foolish young man from a middle class family who started singing the blues because he thought it was manly might be able to name that track for you.
You forget just how good this record is sometimes, and then hear it when comes on shuffle and you're instantly transported away. Joyous. Up there with Raw Ramp and Hot Love as his best work. Wonderful
Quite possibly Marc's greatest song. What can you say? He had it all and his music just gets better as time goes on. In '71 and '72 no-one could touch him and I mean no-one, no Zeppelin, no Stones, no Bowie, no-one, period. Electric Warrior was the first album I bought and is still my favourite album of all time.
you can't assume that just because sum1 is young that they automatically don't have 'taste'. those that don't just haven't discovered the good stuff yet. sure, some are young, & brainwashed by the media, but not all of 'em. me, i'm a young 42, and whilst old enough to remember marc well, too "young" to be part of that same generation really that would have really been into him (i was 8 when he died near where i lived then, & remember that as well!).
Tony Visconti is an unsung hero in all this. Don't get me wrong, Marc Bolan was a genius and monumental human being, but I feel like I never hear people acknowledging how much Visconti's productions and arrangements had to do with the success of Electric Warrior/Slider/etc. Don't forget, Visconti produced a lot of Bowie's albums too, though ironically, not Ziggy Stardust (though he did do The Man Who Sold the World)
@allergic2pretense : the kinks were probably cool enough to get some upstream influence from mighty t.rex, but again, I agree, kinks again are an influence, and upstream of trex, bowie and the future.
@hamdelsun Lola was released in June 70 and this came out in September 71. Bolan and Davies had similar vocal stylings, but obviously the Kinks came long before T. Rex.

I was lucky enough to meet Marc's close friend and god parent to his son many years ago He showed me many of their letters of correspondence - I felt vary privileged. Marc played a very influential role in my teenage years, along with Bowie. Still brings great but emotional memories. RIP-
