  • 'yeah ... but we talk down to 'em' and

'iiiiiiiii was waiting for james garnerrrrr'

just simple easy - quick - repartee

so enjoyable on a lazy youtube surfing afternoon

    t/y for the time

  • Is this an American or a British show?

  • @johnnycheck99 American

  • Even the host was enamored.

  • October 25, 1964.

  • oh man, he was a handsome thing he was.

  • he is a true gentleman.And funny

  • Bennett shouldn't have chimed in and said "It's a man".

  • jimmy one of the best

  • @rdoister And he seems unbelievably nice as well!

  • He was so handsome....God, I always wanted to run my hands through his beautiful hair.

  • @JoLeana76 He really had it all. Check him out on The Rockford Files if you haven't already. If he wan't at his peak then I don't know when he was. Unbelievably masculine!

  • @calalilygirl I used to watch the Rockford Files when I was a little girl with my dad. I knew he was then.

  • @JoLeana76 He had a wonderful and subtle sense of humor that always came through too; even on The Rockford Files there was always an underlying humor in his delivery(or at least much of the time!) I have recently been watching some episodes on Netflix. At the time in the 70's I was younger and wasn't really interested in that type of show, but I'm enjoyng the episodes now.

  • I love when people back in the day called films "pictures!"

  • 'The film is called "The Thrill of it all" 1963

  • @1983CUEVAS Great flick

  • arlene and james worked in a picture together along with doris day. anyone remember the name of that picture. he was a doctor, doris played his wife and arlene was delivering in the back of a cab on a freeway.

  • hahaa it's so funny how at first they were asking him all sorts of julie andrews questions...then when julie andrews appeared on the show they almost-couldn't guess her hehe

  • Thanks NorbertR33 for uploading all of these clips. I've been enjoying them for several hours over the past two weeks. They are really fun to watch! :o)

  • Comment removed

  • "I was waiting for James Gaaaaahner....." and wetting her panties too.

  • They don't have smiles like that anymore!!!

  • well he is some sort of handsome

  • Great guy!

  • I agree with Arlene!

  • Absolutely gorgous hunk of male!

  • Look at that jaw. James Garner is a handsome man.

  • Rockfish !!

  • ....mmm they don't make men like that anymore ;)

  • What a handsome man!

  • I was a caddy for him when he played a round of golf many years ago he was a great guy!

  • James Garner is the only man I wished I could be other than myself.

  • James Garner.................. hmmmmmmm heaven

  • a cowboy and a sooner. a bunch of idiot lunatics running the place now. teabaggers.

  • she's always the last to catch on. too funny

  • Oklahoma night---Tony Randall from Tulsa and James Garner from Norman, Oklahoma.

  • Simply Gorgeous!!!!!!

  • He was such a good looking man and wonderful actor.

  • i never realized how much he looks like Jim Carrey when he did Ma Fricket

  • the definition of square-jawed good looks

  • My late father, who distrusted celebrity (having worked around it and with it most of his life), wanted James Garner as his next-door neighbor. A pretty high complement, I think.

  • Man he was so hot!

  • Oh. He played Mavrick´s dad in the new Mavrick film!!

  • @caroline4323 And he played Maverick in the old tv series

  • He was so handsome and a wonderful actor.

  • It didn't surprise me one bit that Arlene nailed him down so quickly...she had just worked with him in the very funny "The Thrill Of It All," which was released the year before. And she's right - he *is* heaven, and so handsome in this clip!

  • The always hideous malaprop Bennet Cerf referring to "Mary Poppins" as "Mary Poppin" He never fails to annoy.

  • We don't get actors like this anymore.

  • Pretty smooth, Maverick..."We thought you were Julie Andrews"...Shut it, Felix!

  • yes James Garner is a handsome devil and without all of the fake Hollywood crap. A true original!

  • @creolelady182 Yes, so relaxed, genuine and at ease.

  • So fudgin attractive.

  • Unbelievably gorgeous. Wow. Now I remember why I was crazy about him. There really is only one actor now who has these kinds of looks: George Clooney. A real man.

  • Now that Brando and Jack Lemmon are dead, Garner's America's most brilliant living actor (barely living these days), the only real equal of Cary Grant when it comes to light comedy. His best work is "The Americanization of Emily" (the movie they're talking about here) and the original 1957 "Maverick" television series.

  • @Impowers Not that I'm fans of them, or care one way or the other, but I think Jack Nicholson and Robert DeNiro, and maybe even Dustin Hoffman, would be ranked higher than James Garner as "America's most brilliant living actor."

  • From 1964

  • Guess who Arlene wouldn't kick out of her bed? It's wonderful to see witty, generous repartee. We sure have declined a long way.

  • Hardly the most accomplished thespian. But there's not been a star with more charm and decency than this gentleman.

  • love the crowd reactions

  • LOVE HIM :)

  • What a handsome STUD!!!

  • Handsome and most well loved actor of our times.

  • SOMEONES WET

  • agree with jimjimmyjames59.... Mr. Garner is sooooooooooooooooo hot. I loved him in my (our) youth! He is indeed "heaven"

  • He sure is handsome...

  • What a babe!

  • Natural good looks of Hollywood. James Garner is so handsome.

  • As my father used to say, James Garner is somebody you'd like to have as you next-door neighbor.

  • @grabit1 Unless you were married... :P from the sounds of the comments!!!!

  • he's edible.

  • These celeb spots on wml were a great way to promote these celebrities current projects at the time. And they were great entertainment. Boy, Arlene sure liked to flirt. That's what I like about her; when she was attracted to man she didn't hold back and didn't care who was around-not even a TV audience of millions. lol The Americanization of Emily is still an excellent movie, too.

  • Why aren't men in TV/film like this anymore ? So handsome and naturally attractive in a manly way - not like the pretty boys / tattooed idiots of today who mistake manliness for arrogance ... he's made more attractive by being a decent man who's been married to the same woman for over 50 years ..

  • James is a Mans' Man and a Lady's man, well hell, he Is A Man!

  • YUM...what a hunk of burnin' love! god, he's gorgeous. my fave

  • Handsome...yes. A good actor...certainly. But, even more importantly, just an all-around good guy!

  • gorgeous..gorgeous...gorgeous!!

  • They thought He was Julie Andrews... Hehehe We're ought to be married... I love him to death... I Love Him very much.. lol..

  • Super Stud. man, they JUST DON'T COME LIKE THIS ANYMORE. what an ICON.

  • lol she is coming onto him big time

  • now that's a REAL man :)

  • maaaaan he has a chiseled jaw like superman! haha

  • @weightfeather1 hehehe!!!

  • "He makes George Clooney and Brad Pitt look like busboys!"

    Ha ha!

  • @MrAlexKeaton that is so true!

  • @MrAlexKeaton Now Clooney does have some talent. He was outstanding in O' Brother Where Art Thou. And he is related to Rosemary Clooney-so he can't be all bad. lol Pitt is the type of man they look for in hollywood these days. He has talent but he lacks charm and sophistication of James Garner.

  • My all-time favorite actor. Everybody who has ever worked with him has great things to say about him

  • So charming,,,sighhh..

  • Great stuff, saw him in the film Maverick with Gibson and Foster... which year is this video from?

  • James Garner - a beautiful man and talented actor

  • WOW, just wow! He was soo handsome and good looking!

  • This episode is from October 25, 1964. This was a relatively slow period of Garner's life: "The Americanization of Emily" (which he considered his favorite) was the only film he appeared in that year. It would be almost a decade before he began the long-running "Rockford Files".

  • @TomBarristerX But don't forget the very popular Support Your Local Sheriff from the late 60's.

  • Arlene wants his babies!

  • @TheThing88 Who doesn't?

    Hahaha

  • She can bear mine! LMAO!

  • that hillbilly smile!!!!!!

  • oooooooh! Arlene is sweet on him!

  • big time!

  • He's a class act.

  • James... so handsome =D

  • my mom was in his movie glitter dome she said she played a girl playing volleyball she was paid $40 she was only 15 in 1984 , that shortly ended her acting carrer

  • Arlene flirted!!

  • @khtx lol

  • Haahaha Arlene is soo funny!

"We were waiting for Julie Andrews."

Her response "I was waiting for James Garner!!!!'

    He is heaven.

  • aww it's cute how she calls him jimmy

  • you think they had sex? I think they did

  • I liked him as Jim Rockford and in The Great Escape.

  • He's a very complicated man and a very fine actor.

  • wow he is good looking in his younger years :D doesnt seem like the man out of 8 simple rules!!

  • Really fun clip. Thanks for posting. James Garner is one of my favorite actors.

  • I live in Norman, Oklahoma. One day in about 1976, James Garner led the 89er's day parade. He was riding down main street on a stagecoach. As he passed my wife cutely said to him- "Hi, Jimmy." He perked right up and replied- "Hi honey." A Jewish friend of ours, I don't know why, muttered under his breath- "I thought he was Jewish." Jimmy replied to him "What makes you think I'm not." Our friend then said- "let's pull down his pants and find out." Jimmy said- "that's her job."

  • Howdy ! - Gotta talk to a man about a horse! - Mr. Garner has had a blessed life with more than one opportunity to demonstrate his Oklahoma Hospitality - what R' Y" gonna do? To come from Norman ... and go as far as this Man ... He is very gifted... as for your Yiddish'A Mamma ...all I have to say is , all the Okkiees say SHOW ME ! gotcha

  • James Garner was the ultimate American anti-method actor. He had no use for method acting. His philospophy about acting, which he said many times, was "Hit your mark, say your lines and tell the truth"

  • americanization of emily (: (: <333333

  • What a man! what a man! unbelievable such an appearance - unbelievable!

  • Arlene is so right - he's heaven.

  • "He's a man!" / "It is?"

    LOL!

  • James Garner was a combat wounded vet & awarded the Purple Heart.

  • Every so often, I get sick of all the pretty boys that Hollywood tosses us every 3 months, so I have to refer to a time when classic good looks were favored. This man isn't "hot" or "cute" or "pretty"; he's handsome. Garner must have been the archetype of handsome leading men.

  • @forallyouknow MMHM! well said :)

  • @forallyouknow Yes, I agree with you. The media is not now looking for these types of men-they look for men who are more average or boyish. Women were treated much better back then; the conversations were much more sophisticated. Nowadays all the shows portray men as ignorant, uneducated slobs or violent killing machines.

  • @forallyouknow so true but please dont forget rock hudson

  • @forallyouknow only every so often? I've honestly stopped paying any attention to what's being produced these days; none of it's worth my time, and I'm only 26.

  • @forallyouknow Ohhh, I'd say he's hot! ;)

  • Love ya Jimmy!!

  • James Garner is a true legend! Such a gifted actor. Very underrated! I think I've seen every movie he's done. The guy is a triple threat, movies,tv,commercials. Gotta love those Polaroid and Mazda commercials. Go Jimbo Go!!!

  • Great looking in Rockford files-Jim Rockford was a great character.

  • He was so hott back then!!!

  • James Garner didn't get the recognition he deserved - just an awesome actor! His films are classics - Americanization of Emily, The Great Escape, Sayonara, The Notebook. I hope he gets well enough to do more work.

  • what do you mean? Is he ailing?

  • One of the few actors who went back and forth between TV and film effortlessly throughout his career.

  • i'll say it again, they don't look like this anymore!

  • What a great talent and a cool guy James Garner was. A real "man's man, good actor and star. I really miss these day.

  • Look at those shoulders, ooh, la la. Rockford Files is one of my faves. I saw a bunch of his movies too. Always loved him.

  • James Garner = adorable.

  • He makes George Clooney and Brad Pitt look like busboys!

  • love your comment-i couldn't have said it better.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! I couldn't agree more. This man is breathtaking and such an underrated actor too!

  • @jimjimmyjames59 HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Yep...

  • @jimjimmyjames59 he's part cherokee

    or Navajo or something.

  • @jimjimmyjames59

    hey, some busboys are hotttt.

  • rockfish

  • So good looking

  • Garner always counted the respect amongst his peers as more important to him than winning awards. That admiration is obviously apparent in this clip and when he won an emmy for Rockford wasn't even present at the ceremony.

  • fyi,everyone-garner and tony worked on a fave of mine-'boys' night out'-he and francis worked on 'the thrill of it all'-and in 1978, garner and co.stayed at the south coast plaza hotel when they filmed a 'rockford files' episode in newport beach-i saw him chatting with some folks in the lobby-while i'm at it-my fave j.g. movie-the wheeler-dealers-great cast-louis nye, lee remick, jim backus, john astin-lots of great character actors...

  • Im in love :)

  • ParkerAllen2: The same thought occurred to me, how small his signature was! I saw him, fleetingly, in the lobby of the Peachtree (Plaza??) Hotel in Atlanta in May, 1977!! THIS was the real "Maverick", and obviously a charmer! And any fan of Jonathan Winters is a winner with me! LOL!

  • Is it possible not to like James Garner? Great guy, underrated actor. He signed in with the smallest signature I've ever seen a star sign in with - I'm no handwriting expert but suspect it indicates modesty.

  • Julie Andrews appeared on WML for the tenth anniversary broadcast, but never showed up again on Sunday night, though 1964 or 1965 would have been perfect for her.

  • Dorothy's a good sport ( 1:25 ), though that theater had terrible acoustics. Everyone constantly complains about it or can't hear questions. Frank Lloyd Wright commented on it as I recall.

As for Garner in his early luscious period -- what is the secret for a career that has lasted over 50 years in most of the mediums? Talent I suppose -- and careful timing.

Those who have not seen "The Americanization of Emily" should get it. It still packs a wallop 44 years later.
