@Bonaqua1337 if you are going up hill and you apply the footbrake then change gear you may roll back that is very risky especially in the test you roll back is 1 major mistake or dangerous depending on the situation. If you stop by the footbrake that means you can't be bothered to put the handbrake up showing you are lazy i see the most experienced drivers still rolling back because they do not want to use handbrake even my dad.

@pounro No. Official it is against the law to mount or cross the pavement unless gaining access to the property. With some practice this manouvre is one of the easiest to complete. However if you are not comfortable to use this manouvre other options would be to turn the car around using a roundabout, or you could drive around the block. You can also use the reverse around a corner manouvre to turn the car around.

You dont have to use your handbrake in the uk for this manoeuvre if you have developed a higher skill level using your footbrake whilst finding the biting point. Yes you dont have the gas set but believe it or not you dont need to use the gas either during the manoeuvre, even with a petrol engine. The car is easier to stall but you're ok if there are only slight slopes on the road. It develops your skills. You also dont need to steer the opposite way before reaching the kerb the other side.

you never signal before moving off for someone behind you. You indicate at the last moment before moving off, when it's safe. If someone was approaching from behind you wouldn't pull out as you wud make them slow stop or change direction therefore you wait until other road users have passed you and you have a space to move out then signal for the benifit of others. Plus if you were sat there for age's with a signal on waiting to be let out you'd get a mark for signals-timing.

the handbrake is to secure the car. Simply put ! It takes a good 10 seconds to change gear, prepare the car observe then move, That is 5 seconds over what is recommended for you to wait b4 applying it. Remember this has to be done to specific standards. Also as a learner when you put the hand brake on it forces you to go thru the prepare observe and move routine. It gives you a few seconds to think to breathe to observe and just show you know what your doing!!!

is alright if you have all day but what i do is ensure the road is clear then accelerate to around 60mph then clutch ,handbrake and steer rapidly once turned into the postion you want to drive in just drop the clutch and should be on route , could do this while stationary but will damage your tyres,i wouldnt recomend doing this with your driving intructor though unless you dont like them heh

Anyone taking lessons with BSM should be aware of the fact that a high percentage of theit instructors are trainees. BSM will not inform you of this fact and still charge you the full lesson price that tends to be higher than most other driving schools. If your BSM instructor has a pink windscreen sticker he is not fully qualified.

IT is also a myth that BSM's pass rate is higher than other driving schools.

Before the reverse phase, the instructor dry steers, ie. turns the steering wheel when the car is stationary. This is a fault, it can cause premature wear on the steering and tyres. Come on BSM, get it right. Pupils may copy this.
