  • The melody that starts at 0:19 reminds me of "Roxanne" by The Police. Anyone else hear it?

  • This song is amazing to dive into an ocean of blankets to, and fall asleep.

  • I notice some of the songs are better in the JP version, and some are better in the US version. This is one of those US better versions.

  • @SharinganLust You must have never heard the JP version. Better composition overall.

  • @spydersword Obviously I never have, even though I said some songs are better in the Japanese release. Lol. It's a difference of opinion over a better composition. I just happen to like certain songs from each release overall, regardless if one is better or not compared to how well they were composed.

  • @SharinganLust You should listen to JP/EU version. I personally like it more because it's more atmospheric which enhances the level itself. I can't recall a song in the sonic series that does that aside for Ice Cap Zone and all of Sonic Unleashed. I will say the US version is more in line with the classic upbeat sonic music though.

  • @spydersword I have. I was using sarcasm. It seems to be getting harder to pick up.

And I agree. The Japanese music adds quite an atmosphere, but sometimes I think it's a little overbearing. There haven't been too many times where Sonic music had been a little more gritty than others, especially anything MJ helped compose. For the most part, Sonic music had been more upbeat and cheerful, whereas a lot of these tracks were a bit more dark in a sense. Reason I like this version.

  • amy should've been kidnapped in stardust speedway amy should've been a playable character in this zone

  • the nineties called, they want their sick beat back.

  • BADADEYADADADOW~

  • ping pong

  • Sweet! This is one of my favorite songs in Sonic CD. Can't explain it. btw, who else bought Sonic CD for ether PS3 or Xbox? I did, its epic!

  • @skittymario I did too. and im so happy that both of the epic soundtracks are in there.

  • @D0ntTaseM3Br0 the us version sucks

  • @thenastyseganerd247 I never asked for your thoughts.

  • @D0ntTaseM3Br0 Corporations have more power than the government.

  • @D0ntTaseM3Br0 its true but this track is good

  • @skittymario I bought for the ipod its pretty epic.

I love that stage music its really cool

  • sosososo 90sss love it

  • @08WSChamps yeaa dude youre so right i was thinkin the same thing. i miss the old bass/slap bass beats of the 90s they were so sick. and btw tj&e was the shit i used to play tht for housrs as a kid lol one time i fell off the side of the 99th level and died! i was like WTF haha, then i beat the game 2 days later lol

  • The bass reminds me of ToeJam And Earl

  • reminds me jackle's theme

  • Will Smith verison is the best one

  • Tidal Tempest oh you mean ベルエアのフレッシュプリンス

  • @Matorothehedgehog everyone will always have a preference -- even if they like both like me. Honestly I'm pretty much tied on tidal tempest.

  • JAPANESE

  • Ha ha, now this is the shit. I have listened to the Japanese and US versions of both soundtracks, and overall I find Spencer Nilsen did a fantastic job of making the songs fit the mood of each level right on the money. This and Stardust Speedway Present are prime examples of songs that I felt fit the mood so much better. The Japanese version had the better boss musics without a doubt, but when it came to atmosphere, the US version had it in spades.

  • i wish Sega still used this as the on hold tune for their customer service line. I used to call it whenever I felt nostalgia for this game! Just to hear this!

  • @LilCyco223 How long ago did they do that?

  • this is the best american one even though the japanese one I feel still is a bit better

  • Japanese version way better

  • i've scatted to this while playing the game. ....watch how many people asking "whats scatting?"

  • @Shadowtheheartbroken I hope you brought toliet paper ^_~

  • @Clesarie not that scat ya perv.

  • One of the better Sonic tracks. It's a shame Sonic CD hasn't had too many re-releases since the early 90's. I think there is a PC version and the one for Sonic Gems on Gamecube but that's it. I'm surprised Sega hasn't released this for Wii, PS3, and 360's on-line stores.

That and Knuckles Chaotix would sell well.

  • @sonicman0123456789 it's between sonic 2 & 3

  • Chillaxin' in a mysterious water temple. Not a care to be had for miles.......

  • This reminds me a little bit of "Don't Waste My Time" by Paul Hardcastle. Then again, a lot of music in the late 80s / early 90s had this type of vibe.

  • Ran ran ru!

  • It sounds totally 90s. Love.

  • I like this version better than the Pal/JAP versions

  • both of the soundtracks are awesome period.

  • Thumbs up if you think this is the best music in the american soundtrack. :)

  • I grew up on the will smith version of this song lol!!

  • love this song C:

  • ¡Como adoro esta musica! Mi Tidal Tempest favoria. Esta es, posiblemente, mi favorita de la banda sonora america

  • La mejor banda sonoro es la japonesa/europea pero si tienes razon, esta es una de las pocas canciones que se libran de la quema

  • this music is good:) i actually like this one

a yea yea you! a yea yea you! yea yea you! eh yeah eh yeah eh yeah!!!!! :D

  • All versions of Sonic were good. I like the US version more.

  • I could care less about the differences between each region's music. I only have one complaint about the music and it's that this Sonic game lacks the panic-inducing Nightmare Fuel drowning music instead replacing it with a jingle chime that goes with the numbers. I don't know about the rest of you but I don't feel it's a proper Sonic water level without the proper Nightmare Fuel Panic drowning music, it just not a proper Sonic Water level experience without it. I know some other *2bcont.*

  • *Continued* I know some other music in the American soundtrack were also nightmare fuel inducing but to be honest the panic inducing drowning music is a series staple and I really think it's sad to see a Sonic game with a water level not use it, I kind of feel the same way about replacing the animals in the badniks with those flowers as well.

  • Can someone mashup this with the Simpsons' "Deep, Deep Trouble"?

  • >Implying I have to be a Weeaboo to enjoy the European release.

    Though this is pretty cool.

  • NOW THIS IS A STORY ALL ABOUT HOW MY LIFE GOT TWISTED UPSIDE DOWN

  • I prefer the japanese version, but why hate on this one? It's not bad.

  • I like how whenever I look at a video from the soundtract it's always fanboys arguing over which one is better instead of just enjoying them.

  • but to clarify, ALL other tracks are better in the japanese version except for this one :D

  • The greatest track from teh greatest game i never got to play..................or well not until like 15 years after it released =P

  • US VERSION IS BETTER THAN THE JAPANESE.........

    man that felt good

  • @sonicslayton better than the moon theme

  • Bubble

  • Rap FTW

  • a little-known fact--if you called sega's customer service hotline(the number was on the bottom of the sega genesis), this song was playing over the phone. so obviously, sega liked it, too!!

  • While the Japanese/European version sounds kind of dark and mysterious, this one is just plain badass!! >:D

  • I like both soundtracks, they've both got their high points.

  • @JBHutto I agree with you ;-)

  • My cousin and I created a hack version of this game on the web once. We took out all the original music and replaced it with some AC/DC songs. It was awsome. We used the song D.T. for this level

  • i think it all depends on which version you had as a youngin'. i personally like this version because it reminds me of when i was little playing this game. ahh memoirs

  • @myipodsmybaby Yea I am starting to feel like nostalgia kind of overrules any objective judgement ON THIS HIGHLY HOT DEBATE ON SONIC CD TRACKS:)

  • People tend to build houses around the coral reef, will it be untainted or will people get creed and sell the coral reef for money you decide !

  • actually when it gets going this is quite a good track!!

  • Thank you Micheal Jackson for an amazing soundtrack.

  • @SpareMeYourNonSense MJ had NOTHING to do with this soundtrack. You are thinking of sonic the hedgehog 3

  • @SilentBlues23 Well he did write Sonic 3, but he was hired to work on this game as well but when all the child lawsuits came up they supposedly dropped him. it was rumored for a while that they still kept his songs but after his death it was confirmed that they did.

  • @SpareMeYourNonSense where did you read this? i gotta see that. I thought 'Spense Nielson( or Neilson)' wrote the music for the american version...

  • @SilentBlues23 Yeah, Spencer Nielsen. I actually got in touch with him on Facebook, he's a really neat guy. Either way, both soundtracks are awesome.

  • @SilentBlues23 I would have chosen KMFDM to do the music for both that and this game. KMFDM fucking

    JUKE JOINT JEZEBEL

    DRUG AGAINST WAR

Ohh man its heavy and it suits sonic a hell of a lot more. Go listen to some KMFDM seriously.

  • I like both but the US version fits better with the atmosphere than the japanese version.

  • @napalmman Yup.

  • I remember when I was 5... I got to this zone on my last life. I stopped playing, just listening to the music. Then... "I'm outta here!" GAME OVER.

  • This song is phat, like they said in this game's day.

  • I actually like this better than the japanese verison.

  • Wise choice sir, wise choice.

  • @Tirgo69 Im an american but i must say most of the japanese songs in the game our better then the american version Like the boss theme and japanese game over theme is WAY WAY WAY Better th the american.

  • @spike354 How. Because the japanese one is more Sonic-y or because America is tough shit? Because the game over theme made my brother frown.

  • @Tirgo69 Same here

  • @Tirgo69 same here the japanese one's alright but not as good as this one :T

  • @Tirgo69 same here this versions more catchy then the japanese version i perfer this one as well :)

  • HOW can we get the extended version of this song!!? ITS TOO DAMN GOOD NOT TO BE EXTENDED!!!!!!

  • What do you mean?

  • I like all versions! :-)

  • I dont think its words, just jazzy scat shenanigens.

  • This is......GROOVY!

  • I wonder what Sonic CD's drowning songs would have sounded like, instead, we got an extra copy of You Can Do Anything/Sonic Boom. We have 4 versions of that song and 2 are identicle, why not a CD quality drowning theme? The Speed Shoes had their own theme, COME ON! I guess it would be Sonic Adventure's Drown theme, better than "Blup, blup, blup, you're dead".

  • "Ya better get down" at 1:01?

  • I'm adamant that they're saying something. Not that though.

  • I think they're just scatting.

  • Could you please do an extended version of this song? It's my favorite music of any Sonic game ever, and I couldn't find any versions of this one that were longer then this. Thank you. ^^

  • Just type in "Sonic Boom- Tidal Tempest". That's an extended version of this track! :)

  • Thanks a bunch! :3

  • Anytime! :)

  • this sounds like it should be on streets of rage at the start haha, this aint so bad tho, the vocals taken out wood sound better

  • Everything is better with pie.

  • ran ran ruuuuuu

    ran ran ran ruuuuu

    ran ran ran ruuuu

    yeeeh yeeeee eeeaaaah

  • >_>

    okaaaay....

  • I prefer the JP/EU version, personally. It's far more relaxing to me.

  • Well for me the Japan Tidal Tempest Present is the best song out of all of them. That being said this is still good, but it can't touch JPN's.

  • this makes me want to search my house for the game..i know it's around here somewhere...

  • I love how on the PC version that you can literally have so easy access to all the music directly. I love this song!

  • I know, it was great, as you could play the CD on a CD player to listen to the music, but I accidentally broke the disc :_(

  • Quit crying weeaboos; US version is fine.

  • Yes, I like the US version because heard it first!

  • @MifuneSanjulo Inorite?

  • @MifuneSanjulo OK I get you posted this a while ago now but I prefer the other version, and soundtrack overall really, not because it was the Japanese one but because it was the one I'm used to the European one so is the name calling really necessary I mean we are all mature people here right?

  • @MifuneSanjulo There's a difference between a weeaboo and an otaku.

  • One thing that always struck me about Sonic CD is just how high the production values were for the music; compounded upon the fact that they made two versions for America and Europe/Japan; both equally awesome.

  • Yeah. The sound quality and tracks are above and beyond what the standards were back then, and they still sound terrific to this day.

  • Indeed. Both OSTs are exceptionally created. Huge variety of styles.

  • Yeah i do love the crush 40 songs and all the rockish sonic music we have in the recent one but I wish we had a little more genesis/cd type of music.

  • i love this song

  • lala uuh lalala uhh lala uhh hey hey yeah

  • ....

oh were you trying to make us laugh

your joke is low budget, stop smoking crack

  • Even though I like the whole Japanese track of Sonic CD, this is one of my favorite tracks of the US version (not the whole soundtrack) but some of the US music is awesome..

  • lalala uuuuuhh~

  • adada gooom ? lol love the song

  • Check out the Fresh Prince of Tidal Tempest song that is a remix of this tune and the Fresh Prince theme. It's totally rad, now I can't hear those tunes on their own without thinking about the mashup. :D

  • this scares the shit out of you when

    you're nearly out of air

  • Like most people I find the JP/EU Soundtrack to be superior but I have to say this track is okay.

  • Man........Its So Peaceful I can picture myself somewhere underwater just by listening to this.

  • I actually really liked what the US OST was trying to do with Sonic CD. This was one of my favourite tunes; it just has something kind of jazzy and catchy about it.

I admit at first the addition of voices was a bit strange but I do find myself going "da da doooo" sometimes.

    Argh! Adictive!

  • I agree. I like it too (also PAL). This tune in particular (and Palmtree, Workbench, etc) is addicting.

    "Dababa dooooo~" aah, nice.

  • What's PAL?

  • PAL is a VG region system frequents Europe, west Africa, etc. It's also used for TV brodcasting. Another version, like in U.S, is called NTSC.

  • this US music fits the stages, i live in the UK but when i got gems collection and played sonic CD ,i thought the US music fitted more than the version we have

  • knightwolfwinner2,

really? the UK version of Sonic Gems Collection had the US soundtrack on it?

  • yeah!

  • Wow.. I'm surprised to hear that, since the european version has a different soundtrack. Can you play the game with the european soundtrack as well? Or only the american?

  • no, you can't play with the european soundtrack, goods for me though i prefer the american themes

  • i love this

  • I know, the Japanese version was more epic.

  • always thought the music went well with the volcanos at the start

  • .....there are volcanoes in this stage? I never noticed....

  • well 1/4 im really think were all different but we should be treated the same not like the american version is.

  • It really doesn't matter japaneese or U.S JUST ENJOY IT PS its also kinda being racist lol i dont know?

  • How is it racist? That's ridiculous. The Japanese OST is better than the American one. Doesn't mean I don't like Americans... also I think you mean Xenophobic...

  • Shizz. In the 90's, the US rules the music industry. Perhaps due to our eclectic collection of artists. It's no wonder they do a much better job on this. :)

  • the music to this game is so fuckin awesome

i have the soundtrack to it =D

  • The game *is* the soundtrack. It's CD audio! =)

  • lol

  • American Version rapes the Japan Vers right in the ass.

  • I think you are thinking it the other way around.

  • American versions sets a darker, better atmosphere that better suits what is going on in the game.

  • oh crap. i think the exact same thing! SCD indeed has a darker, more serious theme. and the Volcanoes at the start of this level signify it, even though the waterfalls are unrelentingly refreshing!

    Spencer, you've outdone yourself again!

  • Sonic CD isn't a dark game...

  • No, Sonic CD isn't a dark game necessarily, but it's got an odd twist to it.. especially when comparing it to Sonic 1 and 2. When I was little I actually found Sonic CD to be kinda on the creepy side compared to 1 and 2, as well.

  • me too,

  • Japaneze is better on most all tracks but one.

  • This is my favorite present theme on Sonic CD. I like this better than the Japanese version.
