One of those songs that no matter how many times you hear it, the next time you hear it you're right back to when very first heard it...sad that it wasn't Blackpool Empress Ballroom 1989
Why was it outtaked for 3 years? Studio version's brilliant. So's Simone... Yeah, brilliant end solo here. The way they go into Shoot You Down is cool as fuck.
Just about everyone in there were at very least drunk and at the most, totally f*ck*d up on something. Add the Stone Roses at their best and you got history!
i love the guitar at the end. it's like a reflection of the song as it fades away. can't decide which version of the song is better: this or the studio version. Both have their own magic.
they had it all here,i reckon this was there peak,..wish i went ..saw in 95 and they were class,no reni but a top gig,but this is the moment they went big,.
knob head...why stop when it kicked into shoot you down......i was enjoying that....will love roses until i stop breathing.....saw them in 95 after reni left....gutted didn't see reni...surely one of the finest drummers of his generation
Got this show on VHS. Used to watch it over and over and over. Just wish I'd have been old enough to see them live. Closest I got was seeing Ian Brown belt out a few Roses classics a couple of years ago.
All indie bands these days have their songs revolve around an arbitrary bit of meaningless (supposedly) catchy yelling: "OOooo OH OH OH oh" or some variation of this. Am I stereotyping? Nope. They're all at it! It's funny yet sad.
Arcade Fire are great, though. They're worthy enough to kiss The Stone Roses' shoes.
It's easy to find! Go into any HMV or whatever and look in the Music DVD section. I bought it straight away back in 2004. Was hoping Silvertone might actually restore the whole gig, Standing Here and Sally Cinnamon were cut from the '91 VHS release. Some nice other footage, though.
yes i have the dvd, i was just asking you to upload it, i dont know how, i could learn....but id rather sit on my backside and wait for someone else to do it haha
Good point actually, I have no idea how to upload stuff from DVDs. Some people seem to be able to get VHS stuff on here somehow.
Ian looks a bit out of it at this gig - I think that's just his stage persona. His singing's not too good at this one, Glasgow Green was his best live stuff I think. Reni's just absolutely remarkable from start to finish. Some kid from a Manchester suburb who knew he could be in any band he wanted!
@Waterfall64 : this band was the guitar and the drums. rest were just adequate. could not duplicate studio sound in concert reliably. reni is an amazing, and the guitarist (Squire?) also. material is absolutely first rate. production mediocre at best including concerts.
@lebarosky Are you trying to be some sort of amateur critic?!! Do you include mani in the "adequate"? I disagree. He was not as talented as reni/squire but still very talented and played some great bass lines. He was also part of the tight band gang that was so important to their identity and their live vibe. Brown - well, yes, you have a point about his voice but then he was a great frontman.
But yes, muscially, it's first rate - esp the outro - beautiful.
@THthefirst : I am not trying. Job is easy to get. Pay is zero all you need is time on your hands and a computer. I am laid up and have time on my hands. Love the band. Their career was sad. What does reni do nowadays? You are right about mani and I withdraw the characterization.
@lebarosky Reni left the band in early '95 and took himself out of the music industry, although he did some gigs with his band The Rub in Manchester during '01 (singing and lead guitar). He hasn't played drums one anything since 1994 - very little chance of him bothering ever again. A drummer like that can be any band he wants to, but obviously he's happy with his life as it is.
@lebarosky Fair enough. I agree they blew it, but then again, maybe it's better to burn out than fade away (OK, the Reading metldown was not burning out....but anyway).
Good they didn't turn into Oasis or the Roling Stones - once great bands that just turned into self-parodies and released one derivative album after another.......
Reni - don't know. Shame. What a talent. Squire has given up music and paints now I believe.
