I remember hearing this recording as I was starting to discover Neil's genius. It gives me chills every time it plays. I have seen him about a dozen times since that first time hearing it. I will be going to see Neil in a few weeks, solo, and acoustic. Can't wait!
Great song and video Jack and if you look at a couple of the long cummerbund nubile clouds you can see Neil like a big bird in the sky spanning the dreamin' man years with music as a mountain that grows a river that flows ..
while the lonely Neil mingles with futile fertilized pet projects going mobile on a static human highway or in this case a highway that winds like a turbine that dines on static automatic. I don't want to hear Neil talk about cars ..
@11xzxzxz Mike, I can always count on you for an interesting comment. Sometimes poetic, sometimes sardonic, sometimes ingeneous, and almost always entertaining.
@curiousgeorge555 Thanks - that is very nice of you to say! I get so very little respect on on this site and I do appreciate an occasional compliment. I had "raised a rifle to my head" but thanks to you I put it down.
What memories this song brings back. In 1989, my high school graduation year, I saw Neil with Crazy Horse at the Fox in St Louis. I had front row. It was the best concert of my life. Maybe one of the best days of my life! Thanks for uploading.

I think it is partially a metaphor for when his father left the family, making Neil the man of the house at 12 or so
