the maria sharapova at the very best was in the end of the second set she blew flavia away with her strokes and when she will be able to be like that on a consistant basis the rest better watch out because she was phenominal but i understand it wont happen over night she will get there though :)

Maria made such a good Run into LA..I am saying Good Cause if she had her serve she could have won the tittle..hope her Serve Gets better in time for the Us open and she gets into the 2nd week of the tournament..They are plenty more Tournaments to be played till the end of the season..

If an athlete is injured or tired, why can't they say so? Anyone watching the match could see she was a step slow. The broadcasters said the same thing.

She's also coming back from 10 months off after shoulder surgery and trying to get used to a new service motion.

Her mental attitude and desire to win are second to none.

You obviously didn't watch the match. Sharapova was in a winning position in the third set but just ran out of steam. She had to fight and claw her way out of the second set, and she just couldn't finish it. It was her 3rd or 4th 3 set match in one week and she got tired. Same thing happened in the French Open QF against Cibulkova.

Maybe youre not aware of just how much Maria played in that fortnight (at Stanford too) and just how little match practice she's had after a ten month injury lay off, meaning she's nowhere near 100% match fit so understandably tired after so much tennis.

Maria is one of the most gracious players in defeat and if she was outplayed because her opponent played better then she would say so. She is brutally honest in her interviews, both about herself and her opponents and she was clearly just tired.
