This port is much better than the 'Tempest X' version. The Saturn version seems to display less graphics on screen though, which is strange as this Saturn pulls music direct from CD, and does not have to process it like the Jag does. Check out my video of my new Jag Ultimate controller.
@meowmmmmm I had the jag version and this game was the only one I played to death. My jag broke down and I got the saturn version. The saturn tempest had great music, but the colors were banded which ruined it for me.
everything about it is cool except the floating words coaching you along, stating the obvious at the same time distracting.I rather the enemies get tougher. Who at the design house says "hey let's have more meaningless things floating around that we have to learn to ignore"... reflects the way people are being inadvertently programmed to think now. Even the way they drive or walk among crowds shows it, drifting towards potential conflict without thinking.
I don't know this for a fact for this specific game, but many Sega Saturn games had the music in CD music format on the game disk that could be read by CD players or PCs...Just skip the first track (where the programing code for the game was stored).
That's exactly correct, I own it and I would constantly play the soundtrack in my CD player, through two 15" Zenith house speakers, four studio monitors, and two PA speakers all run through an old Crutchfield EQ and Zenith stereo amplifier. THIS GAME BUMPS.
@NutsGum I doubt there's very good Atari Jaguar Emulators around, from what I hear Sega Saturn emulators are OK, and there's some great PSX ones if you know what you're doing.
I love the Jag version but even on a YouTube video it looks like the special effects explosions are smoother in animation than the Jag's. Does anybody know if Minter trips on LSD?
Tempest 2000 is not the most ported game ever: The Sentinel (made by Geoff Crammond) was ported to more platforms than Tempest 2000. The Sentinel was released for:
One of the worst games ever, Rise of the Robots, got more ports than that: 3DO Amiga (500/1200/4000) Arcade CD-i CD32 Game Gear Master System Mega Drive/Genesis PC Super Nintendo
Agreed. In T2K, the "hyperdelics" are okay, bordering on the point of obnoxious if you're not in the groove, but T3K is hard to bear because of the overblown effects.

If you have a mod chio on your sega saturn. You can reburn the game with any music you want. I used music from certain movies instead of this GAY ass techno shit!
also, it's that i think that the "PLAY" voice sounds better in the sega Saturn version, comparing it to the atari Jaguar version that sounds like a random teenager saying "Play".
thumbs up if you want to release tempest hd

Sorry! Didn't mean to sound so pedantic!
therealKINDLE 3 years ago
The sound in this version seems to be the best. Probably because of the Saturn dedicating an entire processor to sound.
Glumglufs 3 years ago
The sound is more clear but the soundtrack is no way as good.. Trust me!

Version Ranking
Jag #1
Saturn #2
Playstation #3
Nuons Tempest 3k is visual brilliant but becasue of it the game is almost unplayable as it gives you a head ache after a while.
Unbelievable effects with all due respect to
Mr. Minter but way overdone.

Plus the Soundtrack on Jaguar is better because it sounded a bit more "hardcore" with no strings in the main theme.

They kinda gayed up the voice samples in this version. And where's the background starfield at?

no, it isnt!!
abkha 4 years ago
why is the soundtrack so much cooler than the one from the jaguar version? :\
reddor 4 years ago
Redbook audio is probably a major reason why. Everything sounds better when you play it off a disc!
TheGameroomBlitz 3 years ago
also, it's that i think that the "PLAY" voice sounds better in the sega Saturn version, comparing it to the atari Jaguar version that sounds like a random teenager saying "Play".
sega31098 3 years ago
The Jaguar version were trimmed down version of the music .mod files becasue they had to fit the whole game, samples mods and all in
a 2 meg cart. With Saturn you have redbook
audio so the tracks are just spooled off the
CD and played...The Jaguar had to actually play the mods becasue there was no CD.
All things considered, I still think the Jag
version is all around the best. I think the
Saturn does a much better job than The PS1
did with this game.
