  • This recipe was delicious! The only thing I would change is I would soak the eggplant in salt water to remove some of the bitterness. Thanks for all your great recipes!

  • @Kimcita Thanks for watching, and for posting the tip!

  • moussaka is bulgarian traditional dish too :)

  • @uniquastudio cool, good to know!!

  • @healthyvegan actually, moussaka is turkish. I am Macedonian and we have adopted this from the turks from when they owned the balkans for 500 years. The Greeks and Bulgarians will make many claims that aren't true.

  • @drushtvo haha... yeah, I just got back from 3 months in Europe, 1 of which was spent in Turkey, and noticed a LOT of dishes that in North America are called Greek, but are also done in Turkey. There seemed to be a lot of similar dishes along the Med region where we travelled, probably since the growing region produces a lot of the same foods. Whatever country takes credit, they make some delicious foods around there!!

  • @healthyvegan I don't know the exact origin. It's for sure somewhere in the Balkans. However when you see moussaka in restaurants of the western world it's actually the Greek form. So that's why most people think it's greek.

  • @drushtvo by the way you cannot use the word macedonian if you are not from greece. That is what the UN says.

  • @uniquastudio

    moussaka is a "xyz" dish.

its mediterranian. Persia, The Balkans, Greece, and Israel sort of all mix together as far as food goes :P

  • @GoblinsnHobbits

this of course comes from the fact that the ottomans ruled the region for centuries, thus, making the cultures sort of melt together under an imperial banner.

This is why there's like 10 different kinds of traditional baklava, moussaka, dolmathes, taboleh, etc.

  • i do not know how i feel about not using lamb... it is really good but i am willing to try it your way as well.

  • @Tinymoezzy Well, I'm glad you're willing! The trick is that when you eat it, just think of it as a delicious meal. If you go in with preconceptions of how it should be, you'll probably just be thinking that it's not the same. I hope you enjoy it!

  • o: This looks so goodd! I don't have lentils though. ):

  • @pshoom Don't worry about the lentils - try it with kidney beans or aduki beans, it will be lovely!

  • @healthyvegan i was actually thinking about doing just that with the kidney beans. :D i'll try it!

  • @pshoom great minds... let me know how it turns out with the kidney beans!

  • Hope it tasted as good as it looked. I'm interested to know the "guys" turned into "her" when you put it in the oven. Great video.

  • @mikeycbd haha... you are very observant! thanks for watching!

  • yumyum!

  • Oh my gosh this sounded delicious from the description before you even started talking. I have to try this. :) Thanks for all the tips too :)

  • @awesomevegan hope you like it! phil & I LOVED it... so soft and moist

  • @healthyvegan I will let you know. I haven't tried it yet.
