I always thought of the possibilities the year before if Stackhouse, Wallace and McInnis all stayed for their senior year in 1996-97 team. (I'm fully aware that this was the era when players started leaving early to the pro's)
That was the height of the rivalry right there. Duke won the second game later that year I believe, in a 2OT thriller. Then, if I'm not mistaken again, UNC beat them in the ACC Championship. Duke had a killer squad the next year but failed to capitalize on it with a championship.
This was the glory days of college basketball. Night and day difference on the talent level. Take the 05' or 09' Tarheels Champ teams.......neither were anywhere close to as good as this team was. Same goes for Duke!!!

If you don't get the national championship, why does it matter? It's like being the runner-up in the national title game, the best loser in the country. And yeah, I watched an overrated UNC team lose to an underrated Syracuse team. No other ACC teams have had to contend with teams of that caliber. But don't worry, UNC is young and talented and they'll be ready when conference play rolls around.
I said winning the conference doesn't matter. But the ACC is always a good basketball conference and it takes a lot of talent to be successful in conference play to maintain a good record to get a good seed in the tournament. UNC may be young, but they have a lot of talent and depth and just need to gain some experience to go with that to be a great team.

Freakin dunk fest son. I remember this game so vividly. Was drinking with friends in a buddies basement and completely lost it on the Cota to Carter off the backboard jam that never was. However I thought he made it and literally went crazy. Spilled my beer and knocked over a lamp. Good times.

He even stated that "Carolina is not recruting me." They did not offer him a scholarship, nor did he even visit. I'm highly skeptical of this. Here you have the best recruit in the country 15 minutes away, yet neither school initially recruited him, and only Duke has finally offered him something, very late.

If you don't get the national championship, why does it matter? It's like being the runner-up in the national title game, the best loser in the country. And yeah, I watched an overrated UNC team lose to an underrated Syracuse team. No other ACC teams have had to contend with teams of that caliber. But don't worry, UNC is young and talented and they'll be ready when conference play rolls around.

I said winning the conference doesn't matter. But the ACC is always a good basketball conference and it takes a lot of talent to be successful in conference play to maintain a good record to get a good seed in the tournament. UNC may be young, but they have a lot of talent and depth and just need to gain some experience to go with that to be a great team.

waht kind of dir do you have on roy s00thead? make your case. he takes the rules test every year with the book closed and reguarly scores better than 99 pct of those theat open their book. i do like and respect the wildcats way more than puke, but have to remind you of the wildcats checkered past with probation and that also bings up the fact that those in glass houses should not throw rocks.

Freakin dunk fest son. I remember this game so vividly. Was drinking with friends in a buddies basement and completely lost it on the Cota to Carter off the backboard jam that never was. However I thought he made it and literally went crazy. Spilled my beer and knocked over a lamp. Good times.

Of course Duke is desperate. They haven't made a final four since 2004, and won it all since 2001. UNC's contact with Wall has been one phone call Roy made to him at the Final Four. He even stated that "Carolina is not recruting me." They did not offer him a scholarship, nor did he even visit. I'm highly skeptical of this. Here you have the best recruit in the country 15 minutes away, yet neither school initially recruited him, and only Duke has finally offered him something, very late.
