Spring of '93. Saturday morning, my girlfriend and I dosed some Felix the Cat early, and went to a buddies house to score some rag. They gave us a couple knocks on a bong, and sent us on our way. "Searching for the ground....." played on the stereo in the car, and the Felix kicked in on top of the weed. TRAILS!!! (First and only time.) I had to pull over and collect myself. Went straight home, darkened my room and listened to "Dark Side Of the Moon". Fun, but VERY dangerous. I'm glad I grew up.
bought this cd when i heard rusty cage playing on the radio, early 90's.this song here is my favorite on this particular release. fisher price would have been reeling if they ever heard this one coming in over the airwaves! hahaha. thanks for posting..
they still open with this,or at least theyve been doing it again, first time i saw them years ado on the ...upside tour they played this second after spoonman
Imagine: Your falling u have cataracs in one eye and ur good eye is closed...ur in the sky searching for the ground but ur not sure of what you see(due to ur cataracs). In all actuality ur upside down plummeting towards the ground. U cant find the ground with ur good eye closed...and..SPLAT u hit the ground...Thats how this song makes me feel haha
The other night Chris C. and Jimmy P. and some of the guys from Floyd pestered me until I let them come over and I had to listen to them takin' turns jammin' Soundgarden, Zeppelin, and Floyd tunes on the acoustics. Around 9PM they got a little rowdy and wanted to plug in and get loud with some AC/DC but I told them no. It was late on a school night and time for them to go home.
This is REAL music fuck i just retuned from US when it was released grab it and whent home to Sweden.....my life changed I saw them in Stockholm in 96 and the band warming up before them was ....MOBY with his ANIMAL RIGHTS album tour so fucking good check that one out u will love it
@Loganflowerchild - SG was the opening act for GnR in Biloxi, MS on their Use Your Illusion tour. SG opened with this song, and blew me away. I have been a rabid fanboy ever since. GnR sucked. :)

Either youtube is getting buggy, or I'm having hallucinations, or by the time I'm writing this post there are 0 (with letters: zero) dislikes by the time I'm writing this post (as it should be) ^_^
The build-up between 3:50 and 4:40 is... beyond words. And then the explosion of drums and the heavy-sounding metal (metal as in the material metal) beat in the background... gives me chills every time :)
I like to think it's about not knowing where you're going to be in the future, what's going to happen if you keep living your life the way you do... of course the one speaking (Chris in this case) seems to be shaken by life, by someone or something... that's maybe what keeps him 'with his good eye closed' and 'searching for a ground'... somewhere, some place where he can rest at. He doesn't know where the fuck he's going, but still he goes...
..."I don't remember half the time if I'm hiding or I'm lost... but I'm on my way". It happened to me so many times, and I think it's always happening to all of us. Maybe not necesarily being shaken, but I like to think you can't predict the future no matter what you do... and that's wonderful, amazing, and terrifying at the same time.
@handrix89 looking for a paradigm... maybe searching for meaning in life? But twisted as we are, we are searching for meaning in life with our good eye closed because we all have our own colorations fed by our own expectations. just guessing, but still this song resonates so strongly with me. My idea might not be yours but it is my firm belief which is what makes this a classic that most sheople will never hear. thanks for being one of the few that are alive and intelligent!
@treetrashish that's what makes the world so wonderful: diversity of ideas! don't thank me, thank yourself. It's good to know I'm not the only one who appreciates this song so much.
To me it's as simple as the phrase "searching with my good eye closed"... put your hand over your "good" eye and try to see things which are far away... this song is a big perfect metaphore (L)
Hey Hey Hey! Bite your tongue! Lol. Don't forget about The Tea Party (one of the GREATEST Canadian bands from the 90's) with songs like Save Me, The River, The Majestic Song or even Haze On The Hills!
Ok... Soundgarden, STP, RATM, Primus, and Smashing Pumpkins reuniting. SWEET! If I could only go back to '92-'94 and be 18-20 again when these guys ruled the airwaves! Kurt would still be alive, Pearl Jam would still have rocked and all would be right with the world. Death to Justin Beiber, prefab bands and pop music!
@radioWTF, I think the song is about being looked at like a devil, but finding God somehow, but the song is still open to your own perception as well.
No one mentions Louder than Love ... great tunes "Nothing to Say" "Loud Love" "Ugly Truth" "Uncovered" "Hands all Over".... all of which are classic! If I had to choose only one Soundgarden album ... that's it ... although it'd be hard to lget bye without this song.

@Dingus39 I agree 100%, every band had their own sound, even bands that weren't big are considered influential (Quicksand, Jawbox , Failure, Jesus Lizard, Therapy, L7 etc.). I feel sorry for this new generation cuz they have to listen to bands (in my opinion) sound the same, and it seems to me that these new bands are just doing it for the fame. Unfortunately everybody wants to party like a rockstar rather then create meaningful music.
