Unlike private business, governments are monopolies. They face no competition and get their money by force. So they can conspire with public-sector unions to milk taxpayers.
Politicians (primarily Democrats) get union political support by granting government workers generous pensions and health benefits. After those politicians leave office, taxpayers are liable for trillions in unfunded promises. That explains the fix we're in today.
Unions are responsible for living wages, good working conditions, and 8 hour days. If the unions hadn't fought hard for those things we would be in even more dire straits than we are now. Whether you belong to a union or not, whether you are pro or anti - YOU have benefited from the hard won worker rights unions have fought for through the years.
I belong to a private union in the Motion Picture Industry. We are very different than public unions! If our industry doesn't prosper we will not be able to negotiate future contracts with our employers. I'm happy that these so called evil corporations are profitable otherwise I would not have a job with benefits. My benefits don't have an effect on the taxpayer. We negotiate our benefits on the profits of our employers. We live within our means and have taken benefits cuts in past contracts.
All government unions should be forced to watch this video at each and every union meeting they have. Maybe, just maybe, they will begin to get some "common sense"!
@lfrijole A) The union leadership would never allow this video to be watched, and B) all of the realities would never sink in. It would simply make the union members scream louder for "Single Payer" insurance.

This is why at first Unions wanted ObamaCare, so they could pass it on to someone else, the tax payer. Then they got buyers remorse!
