  • a little corny in places, but that last line...man. i teared up.

  • i don't understand what Welles tells to Goldwater, somebody can spell it? thanks a lot :)

  • I've seen things. I've seen double rainbows without hippies obsessing about them. I've seen Orson Welles give the most powerful compliment one could ever hope to receive. I now see that could never be so brilliantly sincere. All those moments lost like Vanilla Pepsi. Time to die.

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THE FRENCH!

  • Lovely speech. And all true!

  • ORSON WELLS PLAYED THE WAR OF THE WORLDS

  • That may be the most tremendous speech I have seen at any roast, past present or future.

  • it's UNICRON

  • @WackyMammoth Sadly the reason Unicron has that deep booming sound effect over his voice is because Welles was so fat when he did the recording session his breating showed up on the tape, like it does here.

  • @NinjaCameraman i really hope youre kidding because if not you sound like a stupid jerk

  • Talk about respect. Damn.

  • I'm not english or american, so I've activated the beta auto audio transcription.

When Dean Martin says "Mister Orson Welles" in the subtitles appears "This is the person well" :-)

  • Man, Oh man thats a eulogy class speech. i just became an orson welles fan

i saw citizen kane when i was 16, idk if i understood it, knew it was considered one of the best movies. im 20 now. ill check it out again soon

  • @royals1985brett It is the best. Nothing like it. After that see Touch of Evil and then his his performance as Falstaff. He was the best.

  • That was powerful.

  • Heavy.

  • The best of the best!!!

  • Pure class.

  • Hi, I'm Orson Welles and I just shit all over anything you could ever say because with my voice, words like indelible sound badass.

  • The best speech I have ever heard.

  • What a speech indeed. Wow.

  • No one said it better then Orson Welles!!!!

  • I LOVE JIMMY STEWART,what orson wells says is even more profound today, where has the good guy gone?

  • I'm shocked ol'deano didn't pass out or puke all over the dias. Motherfuckers sweat would give a sober man instant alcohol poisoning!

  • Nice intro, Dino

  • He quells that applause like a pro. Also, the 'hoho' at the end is pretty funny.

  • Orson Welles was the conscience that Hollywood never had; a man who was never afraid to speak out his mind and point at the sordid state of TV. Jimmy Stewart was one of the last few actors who subdued Hollywood's drive for insanity and gore. No other man deserves such a homage from the eminent Welles than the eminent Stewart. Today...We yearn to the days when comedy, drama, love and thriller addressed the mind, not the base instincts of audiences.

  • i would hate to be the guy who had to follow that

  • @swiffer0000 unless your Don rickles

  • astounding speech. Wow

  • And that.. is how it's done.

  • Dean Martin looks drunk

  • @rockbottom56 are you surprised? lol

  • @rockbottom56 part of his act. Drinks apple juice to look like bourbon, stumbles around. He didnt drink while working.

  • In a sense, Orson Welles is somewhat lucky to not live up to the era in Hollywood cinema when 'masterpieces' such as Watchmen or whatever else they have there today are roaring with popularity. And a beautiful and stunningly honest speech of a man who, apparently, had the power to appreciate other people to the fullest.

  • @Didgaraya I couldn't agree more

  • One of the magnificent tributes in tv history

  • Brava. Mr. Welles.

  • Holy Crap, I'm surprised that everyone didn't break into tears...Well done Orson...

  • Welles roasted everyone, except Jimmy Stewart, through pure respect and a fathomless wit. admire this human.

  • One of a kind class and intelligence Mr Orson Wells...

  • what a touching speech. I watched the other comedians "roast" Jimmy Stewart and while much of it was funny, I wanted to hear someone give a speech like this because it's how so many people feel about him. He was such a gracious and humble person, no matter how "big" he became. He didn't seem to let Hollywood change him, and I respect that so much.

  • that. that is a speech. BAM. OUT.

  • Jimmy, my favourite actor bar none

  • I'd have loved to see Welles and Brando on the screen together...

  • Wow. What class from Orson Welles. That's Respect.

  • Brilliant speech by a brilliant talent !

  • owned

  • That was done with PURE RESPECT.

  • wow...

  • wow

  • Two of my favourite actors of all time!!

  • Can't believe this only has 16000 views

  • Spoken like a true man. Orson Wells, in the movies and with acting is perless. As a director I feel Kubrick is closest. They are similar in the quality of the images they put together. Serious, mature movies are not in vougue at the moment. Maybe when the technology is better and kids can watch the car chases on their game boxes instead of at the movies...and when home viewing will be more movie-like...we'll get back to real movies for adult people.

  • All the other comedians were thinking inside " damnit I wish I had his talent for speaking"

  • Beautiful speech by O.W. Loved Jimmy Stewart in Vertigo!

  • We all paid for Hollywood blacklisting Orson Welles. He the filmmakers Shakespeare of our century.

  • absolute class..nothing more needs to be said..

  • That turned into quite a moving speech at the end.

  • How come no one speaks like this anymore? Our world has become so shallow and dumb.

  • Is it me, or is Orson Welles blowing away the comedians seated at this table?

  • I remember this speech with great fondness. There has rarely been a short speech such as was given that ever stuck with me throughout the many years when this was last played. Well done, Orson, and may you rest in peace.

  • This is the best speech I've ever seen from one of these roasts. Not only did Orson nail the new line of leading men to the wall, he was able to explain Jimmy's legacy and personality in a way I didn't think was possible.

  • How can he switch so effortlessly between hilarious comedy and heart-touching homage? It doesnt only take a lot of class, but a lot of control over an audience and a gift for oratory that very few have. // Orson, one amongst millions

  • What a speech!

  • PS

I met Jimmy Stewart as we left our Agents offices I was just a young man and there we were alone in an Elevator...and we spoke...I thanked him for all of us...and told him he was more then a great Actors...he is a Great man...he shook my hand with tear in his eyes...and we walked to our cars in the Parking building...we were alone the whole time...NO one to ruin the moment...so I had the opportunity to thank you for all of us and I did...:) Amen rest in peace Mr. Stewart...

  • @SIRTONY Why, thank you for that. Very interesting and...you lucky son of a bitch....lol. Thanks again for the story. He should never be forgotten.

  • This is even more TRUE now...Jimmy Stewart was the soul of all men who wanted to be given a chance to be their best in life...he was every good man...who simply wanted to do the right thing at the right time that was the best for all...those characters ...3 roles It's a Wonderful Life...Mr. Smith Goes to Washington...and The Flight of The Phoenix seen one after the other ...are all of us tied together...and yes there are more...but watch those as a group...

  • Awesome!

  • haha, in your face Goldwater!

  • all without a note, but how enormous

  • The best speech of the night

  • I thought it was a pretty evocative speech perfectly delivered.

  • Was Dean Martin drunk?

  • He's freaking Dean Marin. It is his act.

  • almost constantly for about 10 years

  • probaly he always iz

  • @mysticblade35 of course he was

  • Funnier and more eloquent than all the others about JS, if a bit hammy. I love Orson Welles.

  • Hahah very funny!

  • Well said Welles!

  • What a speech!
