GIRL TALK is nothing but a guy making money on other people's music. He's not a musician and he's not a writer what he is - is a rip off artist and should be in jail for fraud and theft. The guy is bogus - Greg Gillis is a guy who couldn't get a job programming and takes other people's music and is making money on it all over the world. Stop listening and he'll go away. Support real Musicians.
@bonjubs57 Girl Talk is a fuckin genius. Sampling is a genre. He only makes money if you want to pay him too btw, you dont have to pay for his music.
btw if it wasn't for girl talk, I wouldn't of heard about some artists if they weren't in his mixes. He also used to be a biochemist or something along those lines. All in all just a huge beauty
@bonjubs57 Like it or not, Sampling is a genre, and like SloppyDinger said, you don't HAVE to pay for it, and it's fun for him to do it, why shouldn't he? and if the original artists had a problem with it, then they would make it know, so yeah. Whats the word I'm looking for? FUCK OFF
Am I supposed to be impressed by a soundboard technician whose job is to mish mash pre-existing music? Do you know how many musicians spend 2 years or more just writing music, and then spend more time practicing for perfect performances/recordings? Still very little effort went into this album.
@JBT24 Yeah, I'm not really going to dignify that with a response. Either you're a fairly good troll or (and I'm sure this is the case) you're just an artistically retarded, condescending, ignorant and bitter dolt who likes to spend his time ridiculing things he knows absolutely nothing about. It only makes sense that you're talking shit considering your head's up your ass. and on that hilarious and original joke insult I just made up, peace the fuck out.
@angryhobo212 Another typical ad hominem response thats only used when you know you cant further argue anything? VERY CREATIVE, YOU DON'T SOUND LIKE ANOTHER COMMON YOUTUBE USER. I win, get out. (notice how I don't insult anyone because I don't need to, while you do).
@JBT24 Yup, you win. Everyone now agrees that making a one hour eleven minute 400 sample megamix take little to no effort or talent. Your position is obviously ridiculous and there's really no way to rationally debate someone who takes the stance that you take, there's nothing I can say to change your opinion so have fun believing whatever you want.
@angryhobo212 If you're on the internet, you need to be able to gauge how and when someone is being facetious. OBVIOUSLY doing ANYTHING requires some effort. Even your comments actually took some effort. What I mean by "no effort" is barely any in contrast to his end result. ANYONE can do what he did with the right technology and minimal training. Actually CREATING music is a far more arbitrary and creative process....can you stop neglecting my main point now? It should be obvious by NOW.
girl talk has a lot more albums then feed the animals. while it might be exactly like that one its sooooo much different than night ripper... so ur stupid
I don't understand how this gets an 8/10 while kanye's album gets a 6/10. Pretty much your only problem with kanye's album, as far as I can tell, seemed to be the lyrical meaning (I say lyrical meaning rather than just lyrics because you mentioned you enjoyed many of the rhmyes). This album has pretty much no lyrical meaning. Kanye's beats on MBDTF are fantastic and innovative, as you said, and the songs here are the same old thing from Girl Talk. Do you actually enjoy listening to this more?
@footballtom3685 While I thought Kanye's new album was very average for hip hop (though probably "excellent" for a pop music album) I also enjoyed it more than All Day. I thought All Day only had very few clever moments when mixing up the lyrics with certain songs. There's no effort put into this album and almost no originality. I'd personally give all Day a 5/10, but I did agree with his 6/10 for Kanye's new release.
@JBT24 He spent over two years working on this album, and there are around 400 samples, they all fit together very well, the BPM matches and the transitions are smooth. If you call that no effort I call you an asshat. Now have a nice day, good sir.
@angryhobo212 There's barely any originality or musical inspiration. Many musicians (probably not ones you listen to) spend as much or more time writing music for a couple pieces or album, depending on the era. And that doesn't include time spent on practicing for perfect performances/recordings. The actual amount of effort that goes into All Day is equated to some kind of soundboard technician, which is what he is before being a "musician".

I am wondering if samples were even cleared for this given the fact that it is free. I guess maybe there is no need to bother. As good as this album may be the excitement of mash ups is no longer what it was when Z-Trip, 2manyDJs, and GT first explored this concept in 2006-07. Can't complain if its free though!
He is eventually going to be limited by his concept...But the music is really enjoyable and he is a master of the style. It looks like Girl Talk is fun to see live.
i'm a big girl talk fan, and I believe there are a few more differences on this album.
I think he is less concerned with the amount of samples and more concerned with the flow, this allows songs to play out longer and in some instances give 90ish second to 2 or 3 tracks. Also, I was a little disappointed with the lows. dont get me wrong, build ups on 'All Day' are as good as ever, but I find there are a lot more boring parts this time around.
@billbagger7 my understanding is that given this is a free release he didn't have to worry about royalties. compared to feed the animals where he had to use 30 seconds or less to avoid paying royalties
i def have the same fear about girltalk. i've seen him live a couple times and i don't know why i continue to expect to see mix different things. the guy is behind a booth and basically hits play with a little bit of scratching here and there, and just dances in on and around the booth with a hundred drug taking kids surrounding him (drugs supplied on stage....). i like the album, i like that it's free. i don't like what he is live.
review candy claws - hidden lands next. if you haven't. thanks
Main main complaint with all things GT is my assumption that 90% of his fanbase (frat houses) have another reason to be lazy when it comes to great music. Sure they'll get down on a 30 second T Rex riff, but have never tried listening to the beauty of a T Rex record. (apply this to most of the samples) I like this album just fine but I'm someone who can pick out samples & enjoy it for what it is. I shudder to think all the props he's getting from hipsters while past great records go un-noticed.
I never really enjoyed mash ups, but your review made me give a try and this LP rocks pretty hard thanks man. Neptune 18:40/19:19 would be a pretty sweet LP to review now wouldn't it? Yea i think it would. Get some of these folks on damn good Boston noise.
Haven't heard the new album yet, but I just downloaded the thing for free! Yes! I like the concept of mixing old and new music together to create a whole new song, so I will tell you what I think of it. Thank you too for being awsome Anthony :-) If you do a track review tomorrow, please review the Games' track "Planet Party" from their debut LP "That We Can Play"....you're the best!
you should review some older records or re-issues, or do a top 10 list of ur fav records, stuff like that to mix it up because i have never heard of about half the records u review
My favorite part of the album is that ODB/Radiohead mash up GT needs to release that as a single song. The HipHop blogs will go crazy! Anthony thanks for telling me about GT...and Agalloch....and Bongripper! You are my main music dealer now
Girl Talk is absolutely amazing, he came to Emory University during Dooley's Ball in Spring Semester. I've never sang Tiny Dancer so loudly, it really is an astonishing live experience.
Girl Talk is absolutely amazing, he came to Emory University during Dooley's Ball in Spring Semester. I've never sang Tiny Dancer so loudly, it really is an astonishing live experience.
I couldn't stand Feed the Animals at all, but this is my cup of tea. My favorite part of "All Day" is when Soulja Boy is rapping over Aphex Twin's "Windowlicker." I couldn't believe it when I heard it, but definitely makes Soulja Boy listenable (!) and Windowlicker even better than it already was (to me anyway). Although that too-short mix of Bad Romance and Windowlicker would've been amazing to hear as well.
Eventually I think you'll stop reading all these posts and allow the defensive position against trolls to die. You're really good at what you do, but nobody wants to feel your reaction to negative comments in your videos, at least not me... there's enough people on your channel, I don't need you to read or respond to anything anybody writes, including myself. Keep up the great reviews!
I really hope his next album is a bit more conceptual or tied together thematically. He's got some skill when it comes to mashups, but the whole thing is a giant string of really good minute-length mixes. The ADD of the whole thing gets on my nerves, but it has some really good moments in it.
always have dug Girl Talk's stuff... at least the last three albums. doesn't matter where it is, and who's involved. get 10 girls, bring 5 of your boys, a bottle of jager or patron and a two cases of beers and at least 2 guys are getting laid while a Girl Talk album is playing.
I LOVE this!! Jump To It is my favourite song on it. The only thing wrong with it is that the songs are 6 minutes long and on some of them it feels like it's dragging on. Overall great album.
Very nice might have to check this one out. I wonder what your thoughts are on Weezer's newest album Death to False Metal (yes newer than Hurley! Even though it's more of an unreleased compilation thing...) Or even the deluxe of Pinkerton.

I'm feeling a strong 9 for All Day! I like it a lot more than Feed the Animals
jumpkenny 1 year ago
liked all day better than feed the animals, more variety in the samples used, like the fugazi baseline mentioned, a mr. oizo sample, etc, etc

Bigass salad or big ass-salad? Pauses are important.

I'm really enjoying all day. Sure, it's no massive shift in direction, but's it's like having a party in your head. Just so easy to smile at.

Anthony, I've noticed that throughout your reviews, you don't let us listen to excerpts any longer. Any copyright problems?
