@PreCurSeD that has nothing to do with anything. for one, a budget is a budget. the amount of scientific knowledge we have learned and technological advancements made and new opportunities created both in terms of jobs and businesses, due to the space program, is much larger than giving people free food.
I am glad that this was a safe launch. However, it is time to design, develop, test, and deploy a third-generation system that will be based on the original Saturn V (and venerable Russian R-7 & Energia) design. Put the astronauts way up on top, far away from those fuel tanks and engines, and give them a state-of-the-art escape system that will release the command module and allow it to return to earth from virtually any altitude in the event of engine failure, fuel tank leaks, etc.
The program has funding for this year and next year under NASA's budget. However there are several scenarios as to what would happen in the next decade. According to the Augustine Committee, a presidential review board, under NASA's current budget they would have to focus on either Mars, Constellation or the ISS. The White House seem to favor extending the shuttle life to 2012 from 2010 & the ISS to 2020 from 2016. Unless the nation gets richer, the program would be moved from 2020 to 2028.
Congrats to Zamka.

WorldTravelTV ,
Thanks for the note. Yes, I recall hearing something about Aries 1. So, does it have funding yet?
