To the people that have complaints about the power, learn how to use the gain knob, and use a 4 ohm cabinet. Unless you are playing stadiums, you don't need more volume.
I dont understand how they can make promo vid's "without" including the sounds the amp and the cab's are capable of.... I mean its a piece of "sound" equipment - so lets focus on what the knobs do...and just imagine what it might sound like....Sheeesh :(
I just got this head and everything is great besides a problem with the line out. I get a pretty noticable fuzz from the out when recording and sound guy's always complain that the signal is dirty coming out of my amp...anyone have this problem? any solutions? thanks!
@pullamacgyver I have the same problem with mine....im dabling to try and find a solution. a compressor helps my next move is going to be an isp noise suppressor
the -15db switch is just going to turn you down so you have to turn the volume up on your bass, but you don't really need it. clipping is when you are pushing your amp to put out more than it can handle i.e. too much input. the distortion caused by this can be very bad for your speakers, even when underpowering your cab.
clipping gives annoying extra sounds. like buzzes and farts. if ur bass is active, definitely use the -15db. i dont know if it damages ur speakers, but im sure its not the right thing to do.
while preamp tubes don't get as much stress as power tubes, they will still eventually need to be replaced. for one, tubes are very delicate, and they get damaged, you will obviously need new ones, and second, over time as they get used they will start sounding dull. fortunately preamp tubes don't need to be matched like power tubes, so if just one gets messed up you can just replace it.
Becuase they sound awesome. It's worth it, tonally, and overall. they do need to be replaced, but like once a year, so that's not an issue really. They only really sell em for replacements, not to change them out for tone. That's Groove Tube's job.
But different tubes ARE tonally different. That's like saying that strings, or pickups, or speakers, are only for replacement, they don't affect the tone.
I didn't say they weren't....? Ususally company sold stuff like AMPEG preamp tubes, opposed to Groove Tubes, are usually intended or aimed at replacement purposes. New Strings+humbucking pickup=great tone. DR strings FTW!
why get so complicated too much to remember and to know !!!

We use the hell out of this amp (on top of an Ampeg SVT-810e cab) here in our studio. It's satisfied every client who's ever used it here.

I play with a svt 3 and active basses. what happens if when I play i don't plug the -15db switch? what means clipping? is it bad to my speakers?

It's just super loud, it'll push the preamp harder, but you shouldn't do it with a bass. It'll just stress out the amp too much.

better tone..?
i dont know if the stock tubes are any good
nuzzination 3 years ago
ampeg tubes are really good, they're is no need to change out the preamp tubes in a bass amp.
iLikechevelle 2 years ago
if that were true, then why do they sell them?
