  • What is it about cows? I worked on a ranch in eastern Oregon in 1975 -1976 and I loved the cow part. In winter we'd go out and look for signs of newborn calves. When found we'd give them a shot and tag their ear. Once I had to pull one out of it's mother who had a prolapsed uterus that had to be sown up. I saw the legs sticking out, untied the stitches (a bit like shoe laces) and pulled the calf out. It had been a starved or oxygen, so it was a bit slow, but healthy. I named it Einstein. :-)

  • We've had a few prolapses here, usually resulting in about an hour op by the vet to put everything back where it should be and then sew her back up again..Then the odd caeserean cos the calves wanna come into the world upside down, backwards..any which way.. but mostly things go ok and it's good to see em. Most of ours are very broody and good mothers.

Einstein - good name :) Better than mine - I just call em pet names by whatever they look like..Blackie, Spooks (all white), Dopey.. etc..
