not exactly correct there MMACyborg. Nicholas Pettas is correctly born in Greece, on Mykonos. His father (a greek/american, his mother a Dane) died when he was very young, which prompted his mother to move back to Denmark when Nicholas was only 3 years old. He then grew up in Denmark and started training Karate at "The Danish Karate School" in Copenhagen under Shihan Humberto Budtz. At age 18 he moved to Japan and became an Uchi Deshi under Mas Oyama.
He completed the 1000-day training just a few months before Sosai Oyama tragically died. He is the only non-japanese Uchi Deshi that ever studied and completed training while Mas Oyama still lived.
Nice interview with Nick Pettas. Always admired his pure technique and of course his spirit. That was the worst leg break I've ever seen and I never thought he'd come back. Japan owes this guy a chance in K1. Osu!
