The only bike that compare to the r6 without jumping into the 1000cc range is the ducati 848. The only drawback on my 2008 ducati 848 is that the tank isnt rounded. it comes to more of a point where my chest rests when i tuck down, so it can be uncomfortable, and the bike tends to run hot. @Ace12550 The 848 feels like it has about the same power when you ride it, maybe a little more but not incredibly different. Personally I'm a huge fan of the Daytona Triumph 675R.
@87apx I know I' m not downshift, but to answer your question, the r6 is the best bike of those three. I've never been a fan of suzuki, although some friends of mine are. In my opinion the hayabusa is the only good suzuki bike. but the r6 is a good 600cc starter bike because you will get tired of a 250cc quick. I sold my r6 about 4 months ago, and upgraded to a ducati 848 which is by far my favorite bike. but it would be to much for a beginner.
I say you people who have no riding experience if living in a big city like Los Angeles...Need to ride a Fixie first....Then a 150cc scooter....Then any 600cc....Be smart
have a strange question!? fits a Yamaha YZF-R6 to a guy who is 1.82m tall and weighs about 110kg ... It's no fun when you're sitting on the motorcycle and it looks like a mini motorcycle ...
wheres ur jacket and gears on??? gloves?? hello?? Your a squid.. put your gotdamn gears on .. you wear gears racing motocross? YEAH!!!.. you wear gears riding sportbikes.. DOUBLE YEAH!!! then do it.. bitch!
@LightningMAS go riding anywhere in the US (especially in warm states) most if not all riders will not be in full gear. granted i still wear gloves more or less because of rocks. i would like to see you try and ride in full gear in 90 degree or hotter weather with 50% humidity and see how long you can stand it.

I wear everything in HOT or COLD weather.. I dont give a shit if its 100 + degrees outside.. i still wear my 1 piece suit.. IF i ride the bike to the store or somewhere down the road. I still wear my 1 piece suit.. Ive been down before with no gears.. Ive fucking learned my lesson.. skin got tore.

To all the new riders out there do not buy a 600cc sports bike as your first bike! These will hit 150 MPH + and get there faster then any car you have been in. A great starter bike would be the 250 ninja, quick and reliable but wont bite you in the ass. Get a years experence on that then think about moving to bigger cc engines. Also its amazing the amount of videos on here where the rider has no gear on, a minimum is helmet, gloves and motorbike jacket but idealy full leathers :) Stay safe
@airsofter2247 i know wot your saying ae man people think they can get on a 600cc with no experence and think they will be sweet ive had my 250 ninja 4 two years took a r6 out 4 a ride and shit still scared the shit out of me the power the r6 has i mean ya doing 140kmh before ya even hit 3 gear
well i started on a zx636 with no dirt bike exp and im just fine its up to the person even you can crash one day alot of the time is not the ride is the person that doesnt see you also i never lose respect for the bike thats when it kills you
why should you give two shits if someone wants to get an r6 as a first bike? i never ridden a bike in my life and hopped on an r6 and was fine. i can agree with you on the starting lower cc part if you are not mature enough to handle the task of learning. all it takes is patience and respect for the bike and none of that meathead shit. the capabilities of the human mind and body are astronomical if you have the right way of going about things.
@suckuhhballbag420 U gotta be kiddin me . U talk like this coz u never drove a bike . Get one , ride it and then talk to me . Talkin from my own experience . I was like yeah its easy , but when u get on the bike and try it its way harder . Honestly i dont give a damn about those idiots that ride a 600 and above cc as a first bike , but i do give for the ppl they gonna kill .
oh well.... nobody lives forever... i already told you i started on an r6 so i dont know why you said some dumb shit like i never rode on a bike before.
@suckuhhballbag420 aight . gz , want a cookie ? u da best ..... NOT . Nobody lives forever ? Yeah thats true , but why would some1 die like that ? Like 1 week practice needed and then he can go to stronger bike , but that 1 week is rly important .
lol my first bike i was ride is yamaha r1, and all norm. before r1 i riding just 72cc scooter... i not crashed, cuz i have mind... so if all have mind, nobody will crash...
@H1pH0p4LiFe your stupid this could be a first bike ANY BIKE can be a first bike if the person whos riding has comon sense i wouldnt let what anybody says whatever bike you want GO GET IT thats how i feel just ride safe and use comon sense
@GILLETTEWILDHOCKEY Rofl . U are just a prove of the phrase "human's stupidity is infinite " . So when u were a baby u first learned to run instead of walk ? Same goes for bikes .
@H1pH0p4LiFe haha okay dude im sorry i dont wanna spend money on a 250 when i can handle more then that see what your saying is your opinion what im saying is my opinion if somebody wants this as a first bike its a fantastic first bike its my first bike..... i like it so....... yeah
@GILLETTEWILDHOCKEY yeah ok . its up to u . but u know something ? doesnt matter if u kill urself in a crash , its ur own responsibility , the point is that u gonna kill another ppl .
@GILLETTEWILDHOCKEY i disagree. it takes a lot of control to have anything higher than a 600cc inline 4 for a first bike, which most people dont have. the reason is that most people dont arent properly taught how to ride in the first place. most motorcycle wrecks occur in the fisrt 6 months of riding and a bigger bike just ups the ante.
@H1pH0p4LiFe dude.. youtube is filled with videos of people crashing because they are being irresponsible people.... as long as you are careful and responsible you dont have to get a pussy bike :)
@H1pH0p4LiFe So you assume that everyone who gets a R6 as his first bike will crash? You'll just as well crash your Ninja 250 as you will your R6. Get a grip on reality, man.
@H1pH0p4LiF get that dick outcho mouth then shut the fuck up, btw gettn a 250 then 600 is a wast of money u newb id say atleast a 600 my first was a 2003 gsxr750 an i had no probs with starting out . you will outgrow a 250 within a month
@xKiNgSx88x u dumbfuk . that month is rly important . btw why u dont show us a video of u ridin that bike ? everything i found was a couple of videos of ur friend lol . u jus anotha wannabebikerboy

Hi, Downshift. I'm also looking at this as my first bike, but I think it might be a little low on power for me, so I'm thinking about going for the Busa.
@TheRonaldo666 haha, NO!!! r6 is a great bike to start on, it has enough power, dont get a busa unless your experienced, i have sold this bike and got a zx10r, it has plenty of power for me!
@TheRonaldo666 Without a doubt the stupidest comment ever to be written on youtube mate. R6 is the fastest of all the 600's out there period. It has over 125bhp. If you havent gotton one already/died on it you will probably be scared shitless trust me. Quick enough
@TrollingForYou thats not true at all lol. Although it is great to start on a smaller bike, depending on how big he is, it may not even be practical. Most people I know that think of starting on a busa are pretty big guys, and hence they need to start on a bigger bike. And since he didn't mention if he was a big guy or not, an r6 may be to low power for him... But if hes like 150lbs, then yea starting on a litre bike isn't really recommended
@TrollingForYou please shut up and learn more about bikes... just because something is 600cc doesn't mean it doesn't have a linear power band, low power at low revs, etc. Fucking idiot... (08+ zx6rs have electronic power limiters - and can be shot down to less power then a ninja 650R which is not a supersport... just an example of 600cc's not meaning raw violent power..) why don't you go learn more on bikes... Good luck have fun with 200lb+ guy on a 250... idiot...
@TheRonaldo666 if you're a big guy, then you can possibly start on a busa if you really wanted to. The r6 does have the lowest low end power of most 600cc class bikes, since all of it's power is at around 13000rpm +, so if you are a big guy then yes the low end power on the r6 (if you ride on the street alot) may be too low for you. I'm about 140 lbs, and its more then enough power for me, as a reference if you aren't a big guy
Haha for sure man. I mean, to me, it's kind of a personality booster to the bike. You know that you're getting a high quality performance machine if it's made specifically for the track. The appearance already gives it so much personality with the eyes and the nostril, just all around a sweet bike. I'm glad you're enjoying yours, i can't wait to get one for myself!
i just got my 2009 yesterday and am paranoid about the break in. they said dont take it over 8300rpm for prolonged periods of time for the first 600mi, then between 600-1000mi dont break low 9,xxxrpm. I might have barely broke 8300, maybe for just a couple seconds, and maybe once or twice revving it in neutral, but i havent broke 10,000-11,000. have you or anyone experienced or heard anything about break-in issues?
@zachs13 Best way to break a bike in is to beat the piss out of it. You risk losing power and causing damage to the piston rings if done like the dealership/owners manual suggests. The rule is you break a vehicle in the way your going to drive it in the future. Find a buddy or someone you can trust that has experience riding sport bikes and let him beat on it for the first 100 miles. I'm sure you have already past 600 miles by now though so this is just for future reference. :)
thats what my big ass would look like riding that bike. im bought an fz6r last year as my first bike and im looking to trade it for a true sportbike. not sure which 600 to get though
Awesome Video. I have this exact same bike. I softened up the front suspension two clicks and the rear by one click. HUGE Difference !!!! Its a bit more relaxing then the standard settings and a little easier on the wrists. When I first bought it I literally felt as if I was going to fly over the handle bars. I've always had Kawasaki's but this R6 is super aggressive. All in All the throttle is a little touchy but manageable if you're experienced.
hey i know you've kind of been asked this a couple times, but i'm also kinda tall, 6'3, and am getting this bike in the spring. i ride my current bike EVERYWHERE when the weather is tolerable here in ohio, and plan to do the same with my new one. anyway ive heard some negative reviews about this bike on the street, especially for longer rides, which i often take. I was just wondering if you have any input on overall riding comfort, long and short rides. especially since youre taller too
well for longer rides if you just grip the tank with your legs it will take strain off your back and take strain off your wrist, if you do that then you will be comfortable
@zachs13 The 2008-2009 R6 is primarily engineered for the race track, hence the aggressive leaned over feel. The R6S is great for casual street riding, but if you have your heart set on the 2008-2009 R6, which means you're like me, you'll endure the back ache just to own such a sick bike and take it on the street. One thing i found that helped lighten the stress a bit was to kind of lay on the tank when you feel like you're getting tired. Don't lock your arms out, stay relaxed.
@woodelfe yeah man i got my bike, exact same one as the one in this video, about a month and a half ago, brand new left over at the dealer and i love it. but you can tell its set up for the race track. one small thing i notice i have to actually move my head down to see the gauge cluster, and on my buddies 06 gsxr 600 u can just glance down with your eyes. dont get me wrong, i love my bike, but its just evidence of a track bike :)
i'v got a 2008, 5'10, it can be a bit heavy on the wrists, but if you hug the tank with your legs, you feel it less, so so for long dist riding though.
Hey Downshift nice bike man, I'm thinking about buying this bike fairly soon. Hows the throttle on it, I hear its a bit touchy. Also, how do you find the riding position, asking because im a taller rider aswell. Just wanna get the facts from another rider instead of the dealership before I buy. Thanks man!
It's nice to finaly see someone drive normal in stead of all the ghostriding and shit. Sure it's oke to drive fast sometimes but go on the motorway then. Good job m8!
@drumguy126 just dnt make any crazy shit with it and u'll be fine, if u start training for motoGP this bike dnt tolerate any noob mistakes, u go down hard.
I have to agree with you on this... Why would you buy a 600cc bike for your first with no experience?! Im bloody well starting out an a 125 cc and going for a 400cc for my big bike when i feel like doing restricted access
@Olinolan190 I started out on an 09 R6 and I loved it. Plenty of power but not too much. I was able to handle the power easily. In my opinion it's a great starter bike.
based on me im 6 foot 5 so i think you would need to be around 5 foot 8 but just go to a Yamaha dealer and set on one, if you can stand up and have your feet touching the ground and if you can support the bike with your legs you should be fine.
well im 5'7 and can ride this bike fine, im on the tip of my toes when ive got two feet on the ground but i can support the weight of the bike easily, ride comfort is also good.
You're tall man, I wish I was tall like you. I'm 5 foot 2 in tall, when I set on it... I just ti toe on one foot. This bike is much teller them my old r6 2002. I'm stall going to get it. I guess size don't matter to me.
No bike is uncomfortable unless you're at the extreme ends of the spectrum. Your riding posture was/is wrong. Squeeze the tank with the knees = no weight on arms/wrists.
how tall are you?

(08+ zx6rs have electronic power limiters - and can be shot down to less power then a ninja 650R which is not a supersport... just an example of 600cc's not meaning raw violent power..) why don't you go learn more on bikes... Good luck have fun with 200lb+ guy on a 250... idiot...
Fear1908 5 days ago
@TheRonaldo666 if you're a big guy, then you can possibly start on a busa if you really wanted to. The r6 does have the lowest low end power of most 600cc class bikes, since all of it's power is at around 13000rpm +, so if you are a big guy then yes the low end power on the r6 (if you ride on the street alot) may be too low for you. I'm about 140 lbs, and its more then enough power for me, as a reference if you aren't a big guy
Fear1908 6 days ago
Haha for sure man. I mean, to me, it's kind of a personality booster to the bike. You know that you're getting a high quality performance machine if it's made specifically for the track. The appearance already gives it so much personality with the eyes and the nostril, just all around a sweet bike. I'm glad you're enjoying yours, i can't wait to get one for myself!

i just got my 2009 yesterday and am paranoid about the break in. they said dont take it over 8300rpm for prolonged periods of time for the first 600mi, then between 600-1000mi dont break low 9,xxxrpm. I might have barely broke 8300, maybe for just a couple seconds, and maybe once or twice revving it in neutral, but i havent broke 10,000-11,000. have you or anyone experienced or heard anything about break-in issues?
zachs13 1 year ago
@zachs13 Best way to break a bike in is to beat the piss out of it. You risk losing power and causing damage to the piston rings if done like the dealership/owners manual suggests. The rule is you break a vehicle in the way your going to drive it in the future. Find a buddy or someone you can trust that has experience riding sport bikes and let him beat on it for the first 100 miles. I'm sure you have already past 600 miles by now though so this is just for future reference. :)
SheaAP1 1 year ago
@SheaAP1 yeah ive got around 1400 miles on it, and everything seems to have gone well.

Hello, nice bike buddy, whats your height?
BODEDIS 1 year ago
thats what my big ass would look like riding that bike. im bought an fz6r last year as my first bike and im looking to trade it for a true sportbike. not sure which 600 to get though

I was just wondering if you have any input on overall riding comfort, long and short rides. especially since youre taller too
zachs13 2 years ago
well for longer rides if you just grip the tank with your legs it will take strain off your back and take strain off your wrist, if you do that then you will be comfortable
MisterDownshift 2 years ago
ok good. ive been kind of stressing over it lately. but im sure once i just get used to the position and everything it wont be bad. Thanks!
zachs13 2 years ago
@zachs13 The 2008-2009 R6 is primarily engineered for the race track, hence the aggressive leaned over feel. The R6S is great for casual street riding, but if you have your heart set on the 2008-2009 R6, which means you're like me, you'll endure the back ache just to own such a sick bike and take it on the street. One thing i found that helped lighten the stress a bit was to kind of lay on the tank when you feel like you're getting tired. Don't lock your arms out, stay relaxed.
woodelfe 1 year ago
@woodelfe yeah man i got my bike, exact same one as the one in this video, about a month and a half ago, brand new left over at the dealer and i love it. but you can tell its set up for the race track. one small thing i notice i have to actually move my head down to see the gauge cluster, and on my buddies 06 gsxr 600 u can just glance down with your eyes. dont get me wrong, i love my bike, but its just evidence of a track bike :)

@zachs13 it looks cool when ur riding this bike and ur tall..
vjownsyou 1 year ago
@zachs13 best thing to do is invest in a gel seat. That usually helps out alot.
SSgtusmc187 9 months ago
i'v got a 2008, 5'10, it can be a bit heavy on the wrists, but if you hug the tank with your legs, you feel it less, so so for long dist riding though.

Thanks man!
OGTNinetyTwo 2 years ago
the throttle is a tad touchy, the riding position is just how you feel, it took me a couple days to find the right one

It's nice to finaly see someone drive normal in stead of all the ghostriding and shit. Sure it's oke to drive fast sometimes but go on the motorway then. Good job m8!

@TheAcdcnz
I have to agree with you on this... Why would you buy a 600cc bike for your first with no experience?! Im bloody well starting out an a 125 cc and going for a 400cc for my big bike when i feel like doing restricted access
Olinolan190 6 months ago
@Olinolan190 I started out on an 09 R6 and I loved it. Plenty of power but not too much. I was able to handle the power easily. In my opinion it's a great starter bike.

would being 6'1 be to tall for a sports bike? like make it awkward to ride since your legs would have to be bent really tight and maybe high up?

im 6 foot 5 im tall
MisterDownshift 2 years ago
hey, what do you think is the minimum height needed to ride a bike like that?
setuz 2 years ago
based on me im 6 foot 5 so i think you would need to be around 5 foot 8 but just go to a Yamaha dealer and set on one, if you can stand up and have your feet touching the ground and if you can support the bike with your legs you should be fine.
MisterDownshift 2 years ago
well im 5'7 and can ride this bike fine, im on the tip of my toes when ive got two feet on the ground but i can support the weight of the bike easily, ride comfort is also good.
arrowbyname 2 years ago
the minimum heigh is around 5'8" to 5'10".
I just bought a R6 and did a test ride. I am 5'10" and I can reach the ground with my foot. Is you have shorter legs you will have a problem.

You're tall man, I wish I was tall like you. I'm 5 foot 2 in tall, when I set on it... I just ti toe on one foot. This bike is much teller them my old r6 2002. I'm stall going to get it. I guess size don't matter to me.
Thanks

I sold my 07 R6 since riding position was so uncomfortable.
ScorpXM 2 years ago
No bike is uncomfortable unless you're at the extreme ends of the spectrum. Your riding posture was/is wrong. Squeeze the tank with the knees = no weight on arms/wrists.
prorobo 2 years ago
so can you say that the R6 is good comfort for me?
I'm 1m 90, is that a problem?
