The prevention of death can be accoplished through plain biology too. Cancer cells are immortal, and there is nothing in the cell theory, or any other form of biology for that matter, that says we must die.
While I am a transhumanist, (I'm surprised I found someone else), and I would love to see humanity developed through machines, I don't believe it's right to render death obsolete, even if I am scared of it. I believe mechanical parts should be used to help people - who have lost a limb or an organ necessary to live - I don't wish to fully surpass what makes us human. And I don't have faith in a majority of the world to become more independent via machines, they'll become ignorant, I believe.

Sure I would have no problem with living forever as I don't develop feelings. In a cold world such as ours were only the strong survive, I believe that pain and sorrow are two things that keep people in line. And that line is the line of chaos. If people get bored with their lives they should be allowed to opt for euthanasia. But I don't think they would. People with health and youth and friends and reasonable prosperity usually don't want to die, it's normally only people who have great life problems or health problems that want an end to it. I don't think anyone normally wants to die just because they are bored.
Also potential developments in genetics and technology like artificial wombs could mean two men or women could have a child etc, making biological sex increasingly less relevant.
Hugh, transhumanism would "correct the issue about gender identity"? What does that mean? From what I've seen, transhumanists want a future with more choices and freedom to express yourself and enjoy yourself and have different kinds of experience, not less. One where the body you happen to be born with is less important than it is now and we can modify it as we please, as well as having experiences in virtual reality where we could be anything or anyone.
I am definitely not saying that it is believed by a majority because most have never heard of it and wouldn't even try to listen to it before they did. Not if you just put it like that, but any transhumanist modifications to our bodies will come gradually, and we will be able to see how things work out and get used to them. We're not going to just go immediately from where we are now (cochlear implants, pacemakers, artificial eye lenses, artificial limbs for the disabled etc) to what you suggest. But it's possible to imagine that in the future we might replace large parts of ourselves with artificial ones that are better, yes.

Looks like humans will be split into those benefiting from transhumanism and those ideologically or religiously prevented from participating? But the pressure on the latter will increase to adopt tech self-enhancement sooner or later, probably by adopting the practice into their religion...so this will result in people with religious mindset who are immortal in an tech environment where any apocalyptic or totalitarian agenda can be manifest with ease - which is a frightening prospect to me!

This sounds like you're alongside the general AI approach, so I'd assume you're familiar with folks like Eliezer Yudkowsky. Are you familiar with Aubrey de Grey and his organisations? I ask because you're talking about becoming smart enough to solve these problems, and I think de Grey and his team are already smart enough to partially defeat death.

While I am a transhumanist, (I'm surprised I found someone else), and I would love to see humanity developed through machines, I don't believe it's right to render death obsolete, even if I am scared of it. I believe mechanical parts should be used to help people - who have lost a limb or an organ necessary to live - I don't wish to fully surpass what makes us human. And I don't have faith in a majority of the world to become more independent via machines, they'll become ignorant, I believe.

Nope. I think pain and sorrow are beautiful and death is just another phase in ones life.
Sure I would have no problem with living forever as I don't develop feelings. In a cold world such as ours were only the strong survive, I believe that pain and sorrow are two things that keep people in line. And that line is the line of chaos. People react in violence when something bad happen or they react with silence. Which is why human mind fascinates me so much that transcending death is ugly.

@orlando098 on this point...absolutely...yes, Polio vaccine actually killed 75% of aboriginal children in Australia, 50% on first jab, so then they came back and gave a booster the following year which killed 50% of those left alive...We would be best put to ensure the most natural food and chemical free water for our best health, we can't even do that, because boys just want to make everything "go faster", meddling in nature that has cost more lives than saved, truth be known.

People with health and youth and friends and reasonable prosperity usually don't want to die, it's normally only people who have great life problems or health problems that want an end to it. From what I've seen, transhumanists want a future with more choices and freedom to express yourself and enjoy yourself and have different kinds of experience, not less. I am definitely not saying that it is believed by a majority because most have never heard of it and wouldn't even try to listen to it before they did. As you said it isn't limited to liberals, although liberals are probably more likely to believe in transhumanism than conservatives by the nature of their beliefs. Living forever, artificial implants and the like is the definition of transhumanism and just because it is believed by a minority doesn't make it false.

Science has improved life for most people enormously. Implanting chips is a continuation of things like using glasses and contacts, hearing aids, wheelchairs, pacemakers, false teeth... Science when applied for the benefit of humanity but respecting the Given nature of the human is fine, but if you haven't noticed, 'science' is doing many things that are harmful under the guise of good, and chips is one, transhumanism another. it is akin to selling your soul to the Satan and actually that IS exactly what it is and it is allegiance to that entity that has produced this strategy in the guise of progress

Transhumanism is just the optimistic belief that human ingenuity can continue to make our lives better, as it has been doing for the last few hundred years; and thinking that there is no reason for it to stop, but rather that progress is likely to keep accelerating exponentially. Religious people rely on a vague hope that a God who never even bothers to show clearly that he even exists, will provide eternal life and happiness of some kind.

So ok, say for instance as the authorities, I inform you that it is better to have your brain mostly removed and a processor replace it, so you have no capacity for crime, therefore making everyone safe, are you gonna buy that? While we are at it, we are going to amputate your arms and legs and give you better ones,oh and a new nuclear heart with nano blood to make you eternal. You like?

Not if you just put it like that, but any transhumanist modifications to our bodies will come gradually, and we will be able to see how things work out and get used to them. We're not going to just go immediately from where we are now (cochlear implants, pacemakers, artificial eye lenses, artificial limbs for the disabled etc) to what you suggest. But it's possible to imagine that in the future we might replace large parts of ourselves with artificial ones that are better, yes.

If you haven't noticed yet, we are under control of Luciferian madmen who are determined to decimate the genetic experiment as out of control. NO respect for life, and most of our tech comes from trying to kill people in new and better ways. So I think your glasses are a little rosy.'God' does not need to prove he/she exists, it is right through you and everything. just look..yes there, anywhere.8)

Depends on your definition of God. If it's just "everything is God", then sure God exists. But there's no proof of a soul, a Heaven, a resurrection of the body etc. Or Satan.

@orlando098 That doesn't stop a whole bunch of people worshipping Satan/Lucifer and regularly sacrificing 50,000 people at a time to open their demon vortices. Once we get those guys out of control, it would be a reasonable concept to use tech to enhance say the DNA itself, once understood. That would be better than having foreign matter embedded without need and could prob be achieved with sound resonance and or light wave technology, better than invasive technique in my eye..8)

And yes, it's unfortunate that a lot of tech comes from trying to create new things for war, but then at least I suppose it's good that something useful does actually come out of all this expenditure. As for genetics, you seem to have a very senstationalised view of it. Potentially, better understand genetics is going to have a lot of medical benefits.
