Idk what size motor the T/A have but Pontiac has ALWAYS ran Big Block motors untill the mid 80's I do believe...so yes a stock Mustang Gt will fall to a Trans Am...but I have beat a few Trans Am's in my 2006 GT with a 3V V8...I like both and owned a '79 Firebird with a 400 but I love my GT!
I've owned a Trans Am and now I have a Mustang. Trans Am out handles Mustangs on cornering and ride. Love my Mustang but it corners like a brick compared to a T/A.

The LS1 was at the time arguably the best small block v8 (i mean look at its competion :) ) And for what it is Weight to power vs reliabilty it is still a force to be reckoned with. But look at where we've gone since those days. we have 300+ hp V6's!! And Ford still had alot to learn about its own modular motor before they could develop it to its full potenial. I agree with you though that ppl talk them up too much.

Yes, there were still improvements to be made, but we are talking about a 4.6 here. the DOHC was dead near close to ls1 power levels. You have to remember there is only so much one can do trying to stay at a set pricing point. Seeing a 400hp 4.6 was not hard... that could be reached with bolt ons. The 5.0 doesn't even have a Full 100hp over the 4.6 DOHC... quit hyping it up.

ok, let me spell this out for your since you are obviously not understanding. i have a 2000 trans am a4, that would be an LS1 car. he has a 2008 mustang gt 5 speed cali special, headers, cai, and a decent tune. we ran 6 dig to 130mph races, i beat him all 6 times by atleast 1 car. the 1 roll race that we did do was a 40 roll and i put almost 3 1/2 cars on him. i would be more than happy to get a video of it next summer, except for the fact that my car wont be anywhere near stock anymore

you do realize that my car still makes more hp than a bolt on 08 gt right? and my car is about 300-400 pounds lighter, and my auto shifts faster than his 5 speed. if it was cammed i would probably lose. if he had better gears i probably would lose if we went from a dig.
@BlackBirdv6 not if your stock buddy. your auto shifts slow a fuck unless its got a good shift kit in it. and your car weighs almost exactly the same as a 08 mustang. plus the mustang makes 300 stock to the crank with headers, full exhaust and tune hes making around 330 where if your stock your only making 310. the LS1 is a good platform for making power but you are not faster than that mustang, at best you could be as fast.
his car weighs 3800 pounds, my car weighs 3500 pounds. if you google the hp your right, if you go by what the 2 cars actually put down your wrong. the trans ams and camaros were rated like that so that they wouldnt seem anywhere close to a corvette. in reality my car is putting 300hp to the wheels. my buddies mustang is making 310 to the wheels. that 10 hp isnt enough to make up for the 300 pound difference. both cars have been scaled and dynoed. i dont know how else to explain it to you
Hung with him what race are you watching lol, and its a 347 in the ls1 not that it makes that much of a difference. 4.6 liter mustangs need FI or juice to run with a stock let along a bolton ls1.

I own a ls1 trans am that is still stock.. In stock form TAs are kinda a sleeper, sound wise... My TA does not make alot of noise.. It just goes faster an faster an faster.. Mustangs do sound better out the factory I'm not gonna lie.. But my car can outrun mustang all day though ... Ima have custom exhaust put on soon....
@TheSuccessfulTroller when sold the trans am was priced to compete with the svt cobra of the same year not the mustang gt so yeah this cars are in a different class price wise.
@Smokie420ish It's SVT which stands for Special Vehicles Team and it was introduced in 1993 until 2004 I believe then it became shelby but its the same SVT that produced this vehicles with the guidance and expertize of Carroll Shelby and his employs.

@deadeyedickification come race my 4.6 anytime. I have smoked every 5.7 that has race me. a trans am, camaro SS and a 2004 GTO with the exception of a trans am that was procharged. In my opinion the modular 4.6 makes one of the best tones I have hear from a V8. you might say whatever you want but most of the people think otherwise. By the way I like the trans am just as much as I like the mustang.
That's a fair judgement. I like trasn am's sounds the best cause they have a more aggressive sound that i like. Compared to the mustang that have a more rich tone. It is all just opinion.
I think Ford did a good job with the 4.6L V8,but in my opinion I think they were not expecting GM to throw in the Corvette's LS1 350 small block in 98. Ik Ford didn't remodel there 4.6L until 99, but you have to put in the factor of them designing the engine and chassis.
haha yea SURE you have. to beat me, youll need full catless exhaust, true CAI, cams, and a dyno tune. and possibly DR's. before my car was tuned, a raced my friend's '04 Mach 1 which had full exhaust, CAI, MSD, and DiabloSport tune and i still beat him by 2 cars @ 120mph. my ws6 is full exhaust, SLP lid and dyno tuned. im making 341hp at the wheels. come get some if you think that 2v can keep up.
Well I was referring to the cars I have race, I never said my car was faster than any of the cars i beat. In a race it takes more than a car to win a race. Also transmission, engine wear and engine condition are factors in a race.
well considering i keep Mobile 1, 93 octane fuel, and Z-Max in it, i think im pretty good to go with engine conditions. plus mine's an A4 so it makes consistent runs. plus itll have a 3,000 stall and shift kit by spring so there's no way you or anyone else will outshift me, therefore no worries on my end. it runs 12.6 @ 108mph in the quarter consistently. so you better be able to do atleast that or you're shit outta luck.
I really don't get why ppl say this isn't a fair race. What is supposed to run with the GT a V6 f-body. A Formula and a Trans A are the samething with small diffences. Same with Z28 and SS. The Mustang weighs less than the Camaro and the Trans Am weighs more than the Camaro.

A race between a 98-02 V-8 trans am or camaro will never be a race between vs. a mustang gt as long as its stock vs. stock.... F-body has about 325-350 horses stock the mustang has around 265 at the crank.

Granted yes the mach ones are great cars, but i wasnt talkin about whp i was talkin about at the crank hp which is underrated for the F body ls1's for the 01 when the changed the intake and cam and fuel injectors they also boosted the power to 325 horses and 350 torque, the mach 1's are rated at the crank at 305 horses

@MrBigblock7 The Trans Am and Camaro came out of the same plant. They have the exact same parts, the only difference is the body and a little interior work, but under the hood they are identical.
Well actually Djloc the trans am and camaro were the same car because they have the same engine under the hood, this trans am looks like a ws6 which would be the camaro ss because they are both running a 5.7L LS1 motor, and the same with the z28 camaro has a 5.7L LT1 engine just like the regular v8 Trans Am
The Camaro is the poor mans Trans Am. Simple as that. But all WS6 refers to is it having the Ram Air Package i believe. By the way, the Trans Am is faster than the camaro. Not by much, but regardless it is.

I dont think it has anything to do with displacement. the Mach 1 goes head to head with any trans am or SS, and it does this with its 4.6 engine rated at 305 hp. The 4.6 in this mustang is not a 302 its a 289. I know a trans am is faster than a mustang GT with 260 hp, but you have to admit that the driver in the trans am seems like a better driver since he got the jump first.
I see what you mean. Other than getting all technical. There are things that I hate/like about the mustang and the Trans am since I own one of each. A 99 Mustang and a 90 Trans Am WS6. The Trans Am with the 305 is way faster than the 302 in the stang. The mustang runs smoother. The Trans Am has better handling by far and the Mustang is a smoother ride over bumps. The mustang is a car that an every daydriver could use. The trans am is not.
hard to believe any of what you say. First you keep saying the mustang 99 GT comes with a 302. The last 302 was in the 1995 mustang. 1999 comes with a 289. I don't know how a car that is 25 years old can be faster and a better performer that a newer car. 305 in 1990 trans am could make anywhere from 200-225. and run quarter mile at mid 14s. while the 99 mustang GT does the quarter in 14.1 or so. Again I am not so sure about you having those cars, otherwise you would be a bit more informed.
Ok Mr. Smartass. I bought the 302 from summit racing as a crate motor. The 99 mustang has no engine to begin with. Only a Transmission came with it, which was separated from the car itself. My 305 makes 295 HP and 351 ftlbs of torque. It has bolt ons. And no, the 305 stock doesnt do the 1/4 in 14 seconds. It is more like low 15s. My Trans Am does the 1/4 in 13.43 wih my last time slip. The 99 mustang does it in 13.90. The mustang only has a catback exhaust and headers. old car= faster

14.7 is a bit slow. I have 2 cars, a modified eclipse gt that runs 14.5 and a 2004 mustang gt stock. we tested both cars and the mustang was significantly faster than the eclipse. I have no recorded time of the mustang gt but I am assuming a low 14. I still want more from this car so I will improve its performance to at least 300 hp, so that I can run 13.5 or lower if possible.
well I dont know if you know but the 05 and up mustang with 300 horses runs the quarter 13.8 or less. keep in mind the 05 plus mustang is heavier than an 04 GT so I think 300 horses in a 2004 would make the car run high 13s.

Don't know where you got your times from but there's not much difference at all between a 99-00 GT and an 01-04 GT..They have the same motor...but the 99-00 GT's actually have a slightly higher compression ratio and a Different Transmission. The 99 GT's were recorded at running 14.0@100.2 by these weak as Magazine drivers..Many experts have been known to break into the 13's with ease at speeds over 100 mph...I did it in a 2000 GT convertible at 101 mph so i know with only a flowmaster mufflers.

1973 firebirds with 455 are slow stock vs todays cars I out ran one in a 1991 5.0 lx mustang so you are one to talk sporting that name tag... I also out ran a 1979 model with a 400bb stock & a 1994 trans am stock... never raced anything newer then 1994 5.7 the new ones are faster but not by much stock vs stock
you must have some major mods on that stang if you beat a 94 Bird...I was with you until you said that....the 93-97 LT1's are no joke and some of those 455 birds are 13 second cars...are you sure that wasn't just some kind of knock off bird...the real 455 birds aren't no joke and no way in hell can a stock 5.0 beat one...And i'm a mustang guy to the heart...I wouldn't drive anything else but a GT or Cobra...:)

Actually I think he just couldnt drive. he had 4.10's. He told us he was alot faster than he really was, we expected a car that would run 7.8's in the 8th instead he ran 8.5's. The T/A ran 8.3's consistantly with that driver.
Ive never seen a real mach1 just wannabes with body kits, but my friend raced a steeda which was nothing impressive but still fast. if the mach1 is faster I could see how stock for stock it would be close but I still have my money on the trans am.
Depends on what steeda he raced, most are just GT's with different suspension setups. There are however Steedas from the factory with vortecs an I have raced one befor if it was sc'd u'd know it.
Well my Pontiac GP GTP can beat stock GT mustangs. And my friend has an 88 formula firebird with a 305, minor cam, and headers. It ran 13.92 before he drove it for 2 weeks without oil and blew a lifter. So I would imagine the steeda had some cam and probaly rear end work done. The kid driving it didn't know sh*t about it he just said it was a Steeda package. And no there was no S/C.
Regular Mustangs GT's had 260 not 290. While both where great cars, you had to have a special edition Mustang such as Mach1 (which perfectly matched you against a T/a) or a much more powerful Cobra(thanks to the power adder). Stop arguing guys. We are all on the same side, the AMERICAN MUSCLE!

ok, let me spell this out for your since you are obviously not understanding. i have a 2000 trans am a4, that would be an LS1 car. he has a 2008 mustang gt 5 speed cali special, headers, cai, and a decent tune. we ran 6 dig to 130mph races, i beat him all 6 times by atleast 1 car. the 1 roll race that we did do was a 40 roll and i put almost 3 1/2 cars on him. i would be more than happy to get a video of it next summer, except for the fact that my car wont be anywhere near stock anymore

you do realize that my car still makes more hp than a bolt on 08 gt right? and my car is about 300-400 pounds lighter, and my auto shifts faster than his 5 speed. if it was cammed i would probably lose. if he had better gears i probably would lose if we went from a dig.

@BlackBirdv6 not if your stock buddy. your auto shifts slow a fuck unless its got a good shift kit in it. and your car weighs almost exactly the same as a 08 mustang. plus the mustang makes 300 stock to the crank with headers, full exhaust and tune hes making around 330 where if your stock your only making 310. the LS1 is a good platform for making power but you are not faster than that mustang, at best you could be as fast.

his car weighs 3800 pounds, my car weighs 3500 pounds. if you google the hp your right, if you go by what the 2 cars actually put down your wrong. the trans ams and camaros were rated like that so that they wouldnt seem anywhere close to a corvette. in reality my car is putting 300hp to the wheels. my buddies mustang is making 310 to the wheels. that 10 hp isnt enough to make up for the 300 pound difference. both cars have been scaled and dynoed. i dont know how else to explain it to you

Yeah bigger motor! pontiacs 5.7 (350) fords 5.0 (302) there for the smaller ford motor hung in there with the bigger gm motor. Both are small blocks

Hung with him what race are you watching lol, and its a 347 in the ls1 not that it makes that much of a difference. 4.6 liter mustangs need FI or juice to run with a stock let along a bolton ls1.

I own a ls1 trans am that is still stock.. In stock form TAs are kinda a sleeper, sound wise... My TA does not make alot of noise.. It just goes faster an faster an faster.. Mustangs do sound better out the factory I'm not gonna lie.. But my car can outrun mustang all day though ... Ima have custom exhaust put on soon....

@deadeyedickification come race my 4.6 anytime. I have smoked every 5.7 that has race me. a trans am, camaro SS and a 2004 GTO with the exception of a trans am that was procharged. In my opinion the modular 4.6 makes one of the best tones I have hear from a V8. you might say whatever you want but most of the people think otherwise. By the way I like the trans am just as much as I like the mustang.

That's a fair judgement. I like trasn am's sounds the best cause they have a more aggressive sound that i like. Compared to the mustang that have a more rich tone. It is all just opinion.

I think Ford did a good job with the 4.6L V8,but in my opinion I think they were not expecting GM to throw in the Corvette's LS1 350 small block in 98. Ik Ford didn't remodel there 4.6L until 99, but you have to put in the factor of them designing the engine and chassis.

haha yea SURE you have. to beat me, youll need full catless exhaust, true CAI, cams, and a dyno tune. and possibly DR's. before my car was tuned, a raced my friend's '04 Mach 1 which had full exhaust, CAI, MSD, and DiabloSport tune and i still beat him by 2 cars @ 120mph. my ws6 is full exhaust, SLP lid and dyno tuned. im making 341hp at the wheels. come get some if you think that 2v can keep up.

Well I was referring to the cars I have race, I never said my car was faster than any of the cars i beat. In a race it takes more than a car to win a race. Also transmission, engine wear and engine condition are factors in a race.

well considering i keep Mobile 1, 93 octane fuel, and Z-Max in it, i think im pretty good to go with engine conditions. plus mine's an A4 so it makes consistent runs. plus itll have a 3,000 stall and shift kit by spring so there's no way you or anyone else will outshift me, therefore no worries on my end. it runs 12.6 @ 108mph in the quarter consistently. so you better be able to do atleast that or you're shit outta luck.

I really don't get why ppl say this isn't a fair race. What is supposed to run with the GT a V6 f-body. A Formula and a Trans A are the samething with small diffences. Same with Z28 and SS. The Mustang weighs less than the Camaro and the Trans Am weighs more than the Camaro.

A race between a 98-02 V-8 trans am or camaro will never be a race between vs. a mustang gt as long as its stock vs. stock.... F-body has about 325-350 horses stock the mustang has around 265 at the crank.

well sixduces200322 your deff deff wrong, the 98-02 ss and ws6 f's ls1 engines are dyno pulled at 285whp stock.... and the 99-03 4.6 gts are 255whp stock on dyno yeah it is not a fair race at all and in all test the birds and camaros walk the mustangs in all corners...... the mach 1 was a nice machine putting down 298whp stock on the cobra jet 4.6 but it to failed to run with the ss and ws6 only car to run with them

Granted yes the mach ones are great cars, but i wasnt talkin about whp i was talkin about at the crank hp which is underrated for the F body ls1's for the 01 when the changed the intake and cam and fuel injectors they also boosted the power to 325 horses and 350 torque, the mach 1's are rated at the crank at 305 horses

Where are the 2010 Trans ams? They brought the Challenger back, They brought the Charger back, the Camaro, Mustang new for 2010. Where is the BEAST TRANS AM. Those motherfuckers were the fastest thing out and they could be modded fairly easy as far as superchargers!

Well actually Djloc the trans am and camaro were the same car because they have the same engine under the hood, this trans am looks like a ws6 which would be the camaro ss because they are both running a 5.7L LS1 motor, and the same with the z28 camaro has a 5.7L LT1 engine just like the regular v8 Trans Am

I dont think it has anything to do with displacement. the Mach 1 goes head to head with any trans am or SS, and it does this with its 4.6 engine rated at 305 hp. The 4.6 in this mustang is not a 302 its a 289. I know a trans am is faster than a mustang GT with 260 hp, but you have to admit that the driver in the trans am seems like a better driver since he got the jump first.

I see what you mean. Other than getting all technical. There are things that I hate/like about the mustang and the Trans am since I own one of each. A 99 Mustang and a 90 Trans Am WS6. The Trans Am with the 305 is way faster than the 302 in the stang. The mustang runs smoother. The Trans Am has better handling by far and the Mustang is a smoother ride over bumps. The mustang is a car that an every daydriver could use. The trans am is not.

hard to believe any of what you say. First you keep saying the mustang 99 GT comes with a 302. The last 302 was in the 1995 mustang. 1999 comes with a 289. I don't know how a car that is 25 years old can be faster and a better performer that a newer car. 305 in 1990 trans am could make anywhere from 200-225. and run quarter mile at mid 14s. while the 99 mustang GT does the quarter in 14.1 or so. Again I am not so sure about you having those cars, otherwise you would be a bit more informed.

Ok Mr. Smartass. I bought the 302 from summit racing as a crate motor. The 99 mustang has no engine to begin with. Only a Transmission came with it, which was separated from the car itself. My 305 makes 295 HP and 351 ftlbs of torque. It has bolt ons. And no, the 305 stock doesnt do the 1/4 in 14 seconds. It is more like low 15s. My Trans Am does the 1/4 in 13.43 wih my last time slip. The 99 mustang does it in 13.90. The mustang only has a catback exhaust and headers. old car= faster

14.7 is a bit slow. I have 2 cars, a modified eclipse gt that runs 14.5 and a 2004 mustang gt stock. we tested both cars and the mustang was significantly faster than the eclipse. I have no recorded time of the mustang gt but I am assuming a low 14. I still want more from this car so I will improve its performance to at least 300 hp, so that I can run 13.5 or lower if possible.

well I dont know if you know but the 05 and up mustang with 300 horses runs the quarter 13.8 or less. keep in mind the 05 plus mustang is heavier than an 04 GT so I think 300 horses in a 2004 would make the car run high 13s.

Don't know where you got your times from but there's not much difference at all between a 99-00 GT and an 01-04 GT..They have the same motor...but the 99-00 GT's actually have a slightly higher compression ratio and a Different Transmission. The 99 GT's were recorded at running 14.0@100.2 by these weak as Magazine drivers..Many experts have been known to break into the 13's with ease at speeds over 100 mph...I did it in a 2000 GT convertible at 101 mph so i know with only a flowmaster mufflers.

1973 firebirds with 455 are slow stock vs todays cars I out ran one in a 1991 5.0 lx mustang so you are one to talk sporting that name tag... I also out ran a 1979 model with a 400bb stock & a 1994 trans am stock... never raced anything newer then 1994 5.7 the new ones are faster but not by much stock vs stock

you must have some major mods on that stang if you beat a 94 Bird...I was with you until you said that....the 93-97 LT1's are no joke and some of those 455 birds are 13 second cars...are you sure that wasn't just some kind of knock off bird...the real 455 birds aren't no joke and no way in hell can a stock 5.0 beat one...And i'm a mustang guy to the heart...I wouldn't drive anything else but a GT or Cobra...:)

all this fella in the GT needs is a good set of gears and a catback. People who put down the 99-04 GT's must have never owned one...Those cars are high 13's low 14 second cars bone stock...Add a set of 3.73 or 4.10's with a good catback and a LS1 is in trouble...in the 1/4 mile

Actually I think he just couldnt drive. he had 4.10's. He told us he was alot faster than he really was, we expected a car that would run 7.8's in the 8th instead he ran 8.5's. The T/A ran 8.3's consistantly with that driver.

Depends on what steeda he raced, most are just GT's with different suspension setups. There are however Steedas from the factory with vortecs an I have raced one befor if it was sc'd u'd know it.

Well my Pontiac GP GTP can beat stock GT mustangs. And my friend has an 88 formula firebird with a 305, minor cam, and headers. It ran 13.92 before he drove it for 2 weeks without oil and blew a lifter. So I would imagine the steeda had some cam and probaly rear end work done. The kid driving it didn't know sh*t about it he just said it was a Steeda package. And no there was no S/C.

Ls1's are normally ran at 13.3 stock. But they're high torque thus DR's will run them on 12.9.

Regular Mustangs GT's had 260 not 290. While both where great cars, you had to have a special edition Mustang such as Mach1 (which perfectly matched you against a T/a) or a much more powerful Cobra(thanks to the power adder). Stop arguing guys. We are all on the same side, the AMERICAN MUSCLE!

BUT Ford has gotten smarter, those new Roush, Saleen, and Shelby stangs are b-e-a-utiful. I would LOVE to get my hands on one of those. GM just needs to stop being stupid and make a BETTER new camaro AND TA, not the one they are making though.

this is the fifth ta - vs mustang video ive watched and left a comment on. so funny how people brag about a 5.7 350cubic inch motor beating a 4.6 281 modular motor hahha

ws6 vs a gt? i beat one last week and i had 137,000 miles on my ws6 then. cobras i beat by a bumpers worth.they have the supercharger though

oh dumbass think before you talk the Super Snake 725HP! Ok nat. asp. is cool but supercharger is kickass too! I have a 01 Mustang GT stock and beat a L-83 Vette with mods.
