390-401 motors had steel crank and rods,very strong bottom end.Hard to blow up.

not just that ask any shop how much fun they have milling a block ..they use a lot of nickal content in the casting

Its great to see the old pictures of Spirit of America #2. As a child I was lucky enough to briefly sit in the cockpit, an incredible machine, I wonder where its on display these days?
