My '09 Golf GT car has the same problem (squeak sound). It's getting progressively worse, now that it's reaching 22K miles, and comes up almost every time I press the accelerator. It's VERY annoying!!
this has got nothing to do with the mechanics at a vw service sight. theres a test plan that has to be carried out which is given by vw germany and there is no fix for the sqeak as of yet...... so if u guys have any issues take it up with vw headoffice...
My Golf 5 TSI 140CV has the same noise, but only when you push gas pedal at full and the engine is at 2000rpm. It sounds like there is some valve that is reacting to the request of power closing something.
Are you doing anything special to make that noise or is it generating by itself during normal driving conditions?
Now I think about I have a similar squeaking noise, I thought it was an engine dumperer, but now I guess it's not just my engine! Bloody VW, I have always been disappointed by them. The service is just rubbish, they also managed to smash the car in the workshop and they've never been able to paint it properly. They did the job tjree times and now I have half of the car that looks like Lightning of "CARS", it seems a toy.
BTW, it's not Boost or BOVs or Turbo Whine or Supercharger whine!
It's the supercharger clutch engaging and disengaging. Noise was not there when new. Developed after 5000kms. So, VW stop feeding us bullshit and telling us the noise is normal. Wankers.
I have the same problem as well! VW are full of shit. Saying "It's Normal".
Fact is our cars are all suffering from massive depreciation due to this noise. NO ONE will buy a car that squeaks, on the second hand market. I am sick of complaining to VW. Never buying a VW again. If it's normal, why is VW constantly trying to come up with a NEW fix? Give me a break...
Guys thats normal noise! It's not any mechanical problem! My scirocco started with that noise at 4000km and now it's stoped.... and i didn't change anything...
So what, VW will not repair that? I have Passat, not cc, 1.8 tsi 160hp, and i have problems too, but not the same. During idling running, car is bobbing, sometimes it's weakly, but sometimes quit strong. It pissed me off :/
I HAVE THAT EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!! but mine occured just recently at 6000km and it happens when accelerated. What should i do? send it to vw? but they cant guarantee a fix on it can they??
as I pointed to somebody else... excluding that noise everything else is OK ... acceleration (8 Sec with DSG), fuel efficient, nice in and exterior, very quiet, nice to drive... plus it is estimated on one of the German forums that (only) 30% of twin charged engines is affected with that noise so if You are not unlucky You can even avoid that noise and have nice car ... anyway good luck
"only 30%" ... that is way too much for such an expensive car I think... i was about to buy one and I don't think I will now...I don't want to take any chances...
Volkswagen DSG is absolute rubbish. I just had mine replaced. When I took it to volkswagen and enquired as to why the mk5 2.0tdi was in for, he said the same thing, DSG was slipping. Rubbish cars.
Volkswagen DSG is rubbish. Mine was just replaced, when i took it to Volkswagen i asked what the golf 2.0tdi DSG was in for, he said the same thing, the transmission was slipping. Shitty cars.
@mirsad1999 I think your just one of those people how will whinge about every little noise. You are even whinging about the mk6 gti on the vww forum! If it was a major problem why haven't VWA put a recall on all 118TSI engines??
This is becoming ridiculous ... you have your I have mine opinion. Just ones more.
Squealing noise on 118TSI 2009 models is widely reported (Germany, UK , Italy)
It was friction problem with supercharger pulley which is part of water pump (not engine problem) ... it was replaced on my car ... not every 118TSI was affected ... no engine recall because it is not engine problem.
On vww forum there are discussions about 118TSI and links to translated wsites
yeah i can see your boosting then letting go.. thats just excess boost pressure from the turbo going back out the filter when deceleration. search for turbo doses on you tube. the vw is just more metallic becouse of low boost and smaller mouth on turbo inlet.
i get that same noise when i let go of the exelerator after it has boosted up and sometimes thru gear changes. if the noise is coming from the air filter box area its just a turbo flutter noise, like a blow off valve.
Noise was described as common for that engine (in 118TSI, Golf MK5 GT, Scirocc etc)
W.pump was replaced on 4000km but noise come back on about 6000km... only problem it was not new redesigned w. pump (that German motor talk forum is talking about) but same model that was fitted in original 118TSI ... some European forums are talking that VW is looking to redesign w.pump and that is coming soon...
Some people are reporting that after 12 - 15000km noise disappeared
Hopefully problem gets fixed. Was the noise constant or at a specific moment. Driving the car was the noise loud and without the noise what did you think of the engine's operation? The European forums are they in English? if so can you link me I would like to look into it. Thanks
Noise is as recorded mostly noticeable at speed at 40 to 80km with 1600 to 2000 RPM
118TSI without noise - perfect: punchy, economical, quite,
I can't post link to forums - You can use Google translations to search in German
The best w.site is michaelneuhaus under VW Golf VI - typical faults and problems, recalls

When pulley cleaned You can drive 1000 - 2000 km without squalling ... after that it is coming back.... just short term fix.
There are some indications (from forums around the world) that new w/pump with supercharger is coming - even that VW is testing w/pumps (installed on some affected vehicles) ... but nothing official
It was on 4000km but noise come back on about 6000km ... only problem it was not new redesigned w. pump but same model that was fitted in original 118TSI ... 6 months after there where talking that VW is looking to redesign w.pump
Later in my car pulley was cleaned by other dealer and I was driving another 1000km without noise ... but then repaired ... cleaned again and last 2000km noise was not coming back .. than I trade it in for GTI
For me it is looking good inside and outside handling, power, cornering, everything brilliant but, I am sure I am going to make some people angry not big lower of sound generator especially when driving at low speed with less than 2000 RPM..
I am far from car experts but for me 118TSI engine with T & S charger (without that noise) is having great future economical with good punch, quiet
I would not be surprised that next gen. GTI and R models is coming with twin-charger
We are owner of the Golf VI 160psi with DSG. We have the noise too, but got the response from the dealer that it was ment to be. They produced a letter from the importer with a expl. Its the valve at the waterpump that makes the squeeking sound. I'm working on a complaint to the Importer directly.
I have the TSI 160ps Golf and my Car also Has this noise. As far as i can work out the noise seems to be caused by a solenoid clutch for the supercharger that is integrated in a module within the water pump. According to VW this is not a fault with the car and there is nothing to stop the noise. hope this helps.
For some reason the video won't play now, but I got a MK6 golf 118TSI and if I push on the throttle as i normally would below about 2000rpm i get this chirp kind of squeak which i think is the supercharger belt kicking in... if you ease the throttle on slower then this does not happen, not sure if this is he same thing but basically taking the revs up to 2000 before flooring it solves it as the supercharger doesnt seem to abruptly engage... wastegate may still be open at that stage..

New pump is going from week 45 but only for new cars not officially because that way VW will admit there is a problem
and
It is to expensive to replace it on all squealing cars (118TSI, MK5 GT) -w/pump replacement on my car costed about A$5,000
To silence owners of squealing cars they said "there is no solution but we are going to do something in the future" until we stop complying or until they found some cheap solution not w/pump replacement.
where did you read that , can you send me the internet adress of this forum page please? did these some people drive their new waterpump installed cars 3000 km already, thank you for your answer
Latest from the German Motor-Talk forum indicates that there will be no new water pump in calendar week 45.
Apparently, according to advice from VW, there is at this stage no solution and there will be non in the not- too- distant future. The action/measure is known by the number: 2012623/15. Accordingly, there appears to be no remedy in calendar week 45, as has been hoped for.
This is from Australian person who is active in MT forum
The very latest info from the German Motor-Talk forum:
Advice from VW by letter to a member of the forum indicates that VW is aware of isolated complaints and is presently endeavoring to find a remedy. VW is apparently confident that in the not- too-distant future a solution will be found. An exact date as to when the remedy will be available, VW cannot say at this stage and asks therefore for a bit more patience.
Last week after 2 months (3000 km) noise came back
Before I went back to dealer I called VW Aus. Tech. Support and asked them about lubrication ... his answer "I would not do it"
I told Service manager about that and when he called Tech Support they explained that they don't have instruction from VW that lubrication is ok (instructions are - do nothing)
If you still want details about lubricated parts you can contact service mng on
i have also the same problem and at the same km,although mine is a manual.i took mine to vw and they thought i was hearing things, its still making the same sound .i think thats it something to do with the charger to me it sounds like a pressure relief valve that opening,i gonna investigate this further on my own car and try and solve the problem myself
My 118TSi certainly makes that annoying noise and VW refuses to fix it. The DSG failed on my car and VW is now having to replace that. My car has been in the workshop for 18 days now....
Your DSG failed? Any information on that? I've complained about the gearbox on mine also, since it's rough as guts on gear-changes sometimes. VW's response has been that it is "working within tolerances".... The service guys also fed me a line about never having had a DSG fail ever (I smell bullshit)
DSG is working... but sometimes (20 times in 7 months) when I was accelerating from constant sped (with 1300RPM) it was making sound like exhaust is shaking - like it is not properly attached - 2 times it was really laud I could not reproduce that noise when visiting dealership.
On car advice (australia) under "2009 Volkswagen Golf MkVI First Steer" there are details about person whose DSG was replaced (plus brakes and other things)
First time I've checked You Tube for ages. Yep, the DSG failed after two months and the replacement was on its way out just before I dumped the car. I was told that the repair job was in the vicinity of $15,000! I reckon whoever bought it would have yet another new DSG in it by now, number 3 and counting.... shame
I had a GTI DSG and had problems as well.. I had to trade the car for a new one (a golf mk6 with Manual tranny) because VW could not fix it.. (only solution was to change all the DSG for a bunch of money)
btw DSG are extremely unreliable in the long run.. look for the NHTSA investigation in america wich forced VW to recall 250.000 and more DSG equipped cars.. (and more are failing every day)
guys stick with the manual! DSG are unreliable and EXPENSIVE to fix!
I had the water pump changed at 7000km due to the chirping noise. It's 9600km and still silent. Still apprehensive noise might return so, good to know that a lubrication could solve this. Hope VW put out an official service campaign to fix this for good.
Is that "squealing noise" problem only characteristic for 118kW TSI??? What about 90kW TSI??? Personally, I intend to buy 90kW TSI. I red on forums experiences (relating to "squealing noise" problem) by golf6 owners, and I found that only 118kw TSI (with manual and DSG gearbox) owners complain on that problem related to squealing noise.
Apology on grammer mistakes, english is my third language.

and as i sad some people already got the new one pre- official release and it actually doensnt fix the problem forever.
the noise disappears but return after some miles.
How ever, we only could hope that VW will solve the problem as fast as possible.
Amenophis85 2 years ago
My Conspiracy theory:

AND
The very latest info from the German Motor-Talk forum:
Advice from VW by letter to a member of the forum indicates that VW is aware of isolated complaints and is presently endeavoring to find a remedy. VW is apparently confident that in the not- too-distant future a solution will be found. An exact date as to when the remedy will be available, VW cannot say at this stage and asks therefore for a bit more patience.

Please find out which two metal parts were lubricated. All the Tsi 160hp cars in Europe have the same problem!

Just update
Last week after 2 months (3000 km) noise came back
Before I went back to dealer I called VW Aus. Tech. Support and asked them about lubrication ... his answer "I would not do it"
I told Service manager about that and when he called Tech Support they explained that they don't have instruction from VW that lubrication is ok (instructions are - do nothing)
If you still want details about lubricated parts you can contact service mng on

Squealing noise is back after 2 months and 3000km
mirsad1999 2 years ago
Hi Mirsad,
it's been two months without the crazy squealing noise?
Thanks to a simple lubrication of metal parts (do you know which ones precisely?), the noise is definitely gone?
If so, that would be awesome (and relaxing)!

Are there anyone who has 90kW TSI with the same problem? Is this problem "squealing noise" only characterized for 118kW TSI Golf6?
Mirsade, i 90kW TSI ima supercharger.
josip031 2 years ago
My 118TSi certainly makes that annoying noise and VW refuses to fix it. The DSG failed on my car and VW is now having to replace that. My car has been in the workshop for 18 days now....
Aussiewally2 2 years ago
Your DSG failed? Any information on that? I've complained about the gearbox on mine also, since it's rough as guts on gear-changes sometimes. VW's response has been that it is "working within tolerances".... The service guys also fed me a line about never having had a DSG fail ever (I smell bullshit)
MGotthard 2 years ago
No,
DSG is working... but sometimes (20 times in 7 months) when I was accelerating from constant sped (with 1300RPM) it was making sound like exhaust is shaking - like it is not properly attached - 2 times it was really laud I could not reproduce that noise when visiting dealership.
On car advice (australia) under "2009 Volkswagen Golf MkVI First Steer" there are details about person whose DSG was replaced (plus brakes and other things)
mirsad1999 2 years ago
Hi There
First time I've checked You Tube for ages. Yep, the DSG failed after two months and the replacement was on its way out just before I dumped the car. I was told that the repair job was in the vicinity of $15,000! I reckon whoever bought it would have yet another new DSG in it by now, number 3 and counting.... shame
Aussiewally2 2 years ago
I had a GTI DSG and had problems as well.. I had to trade the car for a new one (a golf mk6 with Manual tranny) because VW could not fix it.. (only solution was to change all the DSG for a bunch of money)
btw DSG are extremely unreliable in the long run.. look for the NHTSA investigation in america wich forced VW to recall 250.000 and more DSG equipped cars.. (and more are failing every day)
guys stick with the manual! DSG are unreliable and EXPENSIVE to fix!
mosquiton001 2 years ago

Apology on grammer mistakes, english is my third language.

josip031 2 years ago
Basic information:
VW Golf VI 118TSI purchased on 09.03.09
Current mileage 6,400 km
Noise officially identify on about 2,800 km
Water pump (with supercharger switcher) replaced on 4,000 km
2 weeks without squealing noise than it reappeared

Hi Josipe, samo da vam kazem da se "squealing noise" vratio
mirsad1999 2 years ago
