You are a fantastic joyful person. Keep pace in your studies.I am from accross the "Big Pool" so Europe. The Netherlands more precisely. Come over to us as soon as Juillard (Chicago?)considers you fit for a 1 or 2 or even 4 year education in the conservatories over here, they would love you I am sure. By the way Bruch is considered very heavy stuff in Europe, you are doing fantastic keep on going :):)
Well, by the way you said "you found someone to buy you" a better instrument, I'm guessing its one worth quite a bit, lol. Ive been watching many of your videos, and you deserve it!
Well, perfect pitch does help a lot, but I need to practice using it (if that makes any sense) because I can tell if a note is sharp or flat, but I can't properly identify some pitches. I frequently get fifths mixed up (i.e. E's and B's, D's and G's, C's and F's). Also, I tune to 440 Hz, so sometimes it's very irritating ot play in a chamber music group with a piano tuned to 445 Hz. Knowing what overtones you should hear when playing chords is also very helpful.
I really love to see you're blogs! They are funny to hear/look at xD.. But!: 4 hours a day of practice - its amazing! Why so much! I think you getting prof! :D
Hey I have perfect pitch too! and I'm kind of too attached to my violin to even think about getting a new one...although I still do think about it...;)
How do you find the people in the quartets you play in? Like they're in different schools, so like did you guys meet at some orchestra place?? If you could get back to that that'd be great :]
You better do another vlog soon to answer all these questions... otherwise your vlog will be like, insanely long.
I hope you're having a good day at julliard! (sorry i didnt pick up this morning... my roommate was asleep and i couldnt make it out of bed in time to answer in the hall :P haha. i promise i'll do better next week :D actually i think ill be in our favorite place- the AIRPORT! so i'll def pick up!)
ooh i have a big question. how do you find your music, like in my opinion the music you play recnetly is rare. is it arranged for you by proffesionals, or is it like you choose them like by going in a store and browsing?? if you could answer that, it'd be great. thanks :) ~Rochelle
I'm not sure if you can help me or not, but I'm trying to figure out this baroque era tune that's stuck in my head. I sounded out the only part I know on my guitar and the notes are as follows.
A B A G F G
A G F E F
G F E D E A A
A D E F G E F E D Db D
If know this tune, could you send me a message or answer in your next blog? I'd appreciate it so much. Thanks
Justin from Texas.
PS: You ought to try some hill billy bluegrass too. I love the music of Alison Krauss.
hey congrats on someone offering to buy you a violin. may i ask whom? and how did that come about to happen? did they just hear you play and were like oh we need to buy that girl a violin? and is it yours? or like will it be on loan? and when u do get it let us know what kind of violin that is...and bow???
Hi from England. What is your favourite violin concerto and if you had the chance to play with any orchestra/conductor in the world which would it be?
Since you live in Philadelphia, will you be attending the Strings International camp at Bryn Mawr college in June? I will! I'm sooo excited... Or will you be doing violin bootcamp like Meadowmount lol.
I was wondering if you see images when you play? Like do you tell a story in your mind?
I saw that collenerwisen asked who your role models are, well i just wanted to say that you are definitely one of mine. I know I will never be as good as you but I'm still going to aspire to it! :)
Lol I can see how you're getting bombarded with questions, but I was wondering if you ever have performance anxiety and how you deal with it. I have it horribly...
I feel like as a violinst and violist on Suzuki, I was able to switch fine. As long as you learn to read music with Suzuki as well and don't always rely on just hearing it. I started reading my Suzuki music from a young age and so it was no problem. But its great for young children especially who can't yet read! And I think it's a great method for growth in the instrument and a great, well thought out selection of repertoire.
thankyou so much for answering these questions. Do you find juilliard competititve, if so, is it healthy competition or can it get quite stressfull and difficult to deal with?
and do you have a favourite piece of music (or at least at the moment?!?)
hi, you've seriously learnt lotz of repertoires and solo's. lot of genre's too. My ques is, which one do u enjoy the best? bach, mozart, haydn, dvorak, mendelssohn etc etc.
by the way, i liked the concerto in d minor(bach)..altho that was done a while back, thatz pretty cool..we're doing that for next year sch concert. The King of our state or prob one of his henchman (hehe) will b there..=) anywayz, kudos to ur great job..

Solfege and ear training has almost nothing to do with perfect pitch. There's lots of things I have to learn

I totally agree about the suzuki method. as a violist it kind of set me back once I had to actually read music.
