How can you say it isnt a dark movie. It has plenty of dark aspects, it about a bunch of people in a mental institution being belittled and emotionally blackmailed by a women and two people die in it. Although it has it's humerous and joyful parts it certainly does have some dark moments.

here's a fun fact: the guy who wrote the book (i forgot his name) was high on LSD when he wrote it. that made the book a lot better because he was able to see and feel what patients in an insaine asylum actually feel. he was able to invision what no other author could. Jack Nicholson plays the perfect Mac. no other author could've done it. hes flawless in it

he actually concieved of the book, while working as a night janitor AT an insane asylum, of course, while tripping on LSD.
