A lovely soundtrack but has nowhere the richness and depth of Dances with Wolves. I can't imagine the academy ranking this #15 of all time; it's not even his best. To each his own.

John was an absolute bloody genius in my opinion. I have many of his scores on CD and cherish each and every one of them. Just a few of my faves - The Black Hole,Diamonds are forever,The Living Daylights,Out of Africa,Game of Death, Raise the titanic.

RIP John Barry. I did not know he had passed away. I am a great fan. What an amazingly gifted musical composer. May he live on through the amazing gift he share with the world. Rest in Peace on the other side. May he be taken up in Angel's Wings and Rest in Peace.

I loved his music, his diverse taste in themes, and his accounting for the total story when he wrote his flowing strings and adept stops. I will miss him. I also missed Maurice Jarre.

This is extraordinary music! However, I must say, when I hear it, animals in Africa do not enter my mind. This music is too deep for anything other than an human experience.

Can't say I agree with that statement. I'll say that the animals themselves are beautiful and interesting, but not their lives. Even if so, this music is too deep and emotional for me, at least, to associate with wild animals.

I just LOVE John Barry's music and the score for "Out of Africa" was in my humble opinion, his greatest work. The scene in the movie in which Denys takes Karen flying for the first time, punctuated so magnificently with John Barry's score, was the most breathtakingly beautiful scene I've ever, EVER seen in a movie.
