sry but i just feel theres a difference in a modern break up song and a book with a point to make. i mean it fits, but thats only because the song is so bltatantly generic it could fit into anything, like a universal puzzle piece. theres no fun in a puzzle if u cld just arrange it in anyway :P
that n the movie kinda ruined the book... i mean now alot of the scenes (like piggy's death) seem stupid just cause how come of the acting was done and how it looked so crappy.

@CrakkerJack81 I don't feel that hating the tragic deaths of Piggy and Simon justify for hating the book in its entirety. We all sympathized for Piggy and Simon. You /do/ understand the deaths were necessary in order to convey the underlying symbolism? I felt the allegories, symbolism, etc. were what made Lord of the Flies a great read.

@RandomAnimalProduct the book isn't really an easy read. You have to be good at reading to understand everything and all the symbolism in it in order to truly enjoy the book.
The glasses can also been seen as helping to see things clearer, Piggy cleans them and then is smarter and sees things better.
And fire can stand for hope, when it goes out the children lose hope and stand little chance being rescued but when they first lit it for instance it can be seen giving the children hope.
I do agree with Aurum when he says it isn't easy, there are a lot of different understandings and perceptions, it isn't one specific way you can see it to be honest.
@iheartgetty The glasses were symbolzing that was their way to get rescued, and when Jack broke them half-way, that showed that they were getting further away from getting home than before, and when Jack finally took the glasses it showed that they had lost all chances of getting home, while the fire was their way home, the war paint represented savageness.
@AurumP0testasEst It IS a bit confusing and had to read several parts over again to understand the infinite metaphors and symbolism (I had to read Simon's death about a dozen times. They called him "the beast" and referred to him as "it" and that REALLY screwed me up.) But I still really like it, read it on my own free will, and love the lesson of human nature :D

Oooh, its so sad! But honestly I don't know how ppl can say they liked reading the book. We've started doing lord of the flies after macbeth in October and its April and I'm only on chapter 7. I understand symbolism and junk but I just don't find 70% of it to be interesting. Maybe I'm too young or something. I dont know.

@RandomAnimalProduct the book isn't really an easy read. You have to be good at reading to understand everything and all the symbolism in it in order to truly enjoy the book.

The glasses can also been seen as helping to see things clearer, Piggy cleans them and then is smarter and sees things better.
And fire can stand for hope, when it goes out the children lose hope and stand little chance being rescued but when they first lit it for instance it can be seen giving the children hope.
I do agree with Aurum when he says it isn't easy, there are a lot of different understandings and perceptions, it isn't one specific way you can see it to be honest.

@iheartgetty The glasses were symbolzing that was their way to get rescued, and when Jack broke them half-way, that showed that they were getting further away from getting home than before, and when Jack finally took the glasses it showed that they had lost all chances of getting home, while the fire was their way home, the war paint represented savageness.

@AurumP0testasEst It IS a bit confusing and had to read several parts over again to understand the infinite metaphors and symbolism (I had to read Simon's death about a dozen times. They called him "the beast" and referred to him as "it" and that REALLY screwed me up.) But I still really like it, read it on my own free will, and love the lesson of human nature :D
