@TheShamy12 Actually, Elizabeth and Philip's love was a bit forbidden in the sense that King George VI tried to put all the stops in that marriage. He continuously invited other eligible bachelors at that time to royal parties in the hopes that the then Princess Elizabeth would realize that there are other men out there. He even balked at announcing the couple's engagement by bringing Princess Elizabeth with him to a Trip to Australia so that the engagement announcement could be delayed.

There are two reasons that excuse and explain why that marriage is still: 1.- Elizabeth was the only in that couple that really feel something or felt 2.- Duty, she cares this very much.

What kind of man would give up a sport that he loves very much and continues to exercise even at 90 years old just to stay alive so that he could support his wife. If that is merely out of a sense of duty, then why give so much of yourself to another person. If their relationship is not love then I don't know what else it is.

@EleLoris He had a naval career that he was incredibly passionate about. Marrying Princess Elizabeth was not his only option back then. And I disagree with you, dreams and passion drive a person to do something despite plenty of obstacles. Only one thing could make a person give up one's dream and that is love and directing one's passion towards one's object of affection, which is a person he/she loves. Besides, King George VI did not even like him for his daughter.

@8y8use8labels8 This is because of the male dominated system in the monarchy (whish historically favoured male monarchs because of their more likely victories in battles). Males in line to the throne take precident over females, and male monarchs take precident over female monarchs. This means that a king is allowed to call his wife 'queen' although she is not queen in her own right, but any queen born in her own right cannot call her husband 'king'.

@TheCaveCrew She is rightly Queen, as Prince William will be rightly King when the time comes. Of the two brothers the eldest was next in line for the throne, so he was crowned King. However, if he died, or became unfit for the role of King, then the next in line for the throne would be the younger brother. This is what happened according to the film, the eldest brother gave it up because he was a) not suited for the role and b) wanted to marry a divorcee... big no no in the church!
