Awful weather I love snow because all you hear is people complaining about it when to be fair you get days of work or school and its just loads of fun

I must say, though, that last Christmas was truly Dickensian here - the snow on the lawn on Christmas Day was 28cm deep, the trees and shrubs were white with hoar and rime frost, the bird bath kept freezing over, the sun shone from an icy pale blue sky for about six hours, & the day's temperature did not rise above -5.6C at any time during daylight hours... so lovely to look at through the window from a lovely warm room with the lovely aroma of the Christmas turkey cooking in the kitchen.

great explanation on the subject? the met office wait till they stick there head out the nearest window then let you know what it will be like?

woow im from southern england and usaully the lowest is 23oc but this year lowest was 12oc in daytime

Would the Gulf Stream slowing down make our summers more extreme too?

@howiej103 If anything it should make them colder as there is less heat moving up through the stream.

You know, this may sound strange, but hearing about this gloomy prediction of the weather is actually quite a nice change from the ridiculously optimistic predictions from the met office. If you know what's coming so you won't be disappointed by it when it comes (The cheery BBQ predictions). It's also nice to hear a little about the reasons why we are getting persistantly bad weather, while the met office does not explain anything or even mention a connection between the awful weather since 2007

Good forecast,... awful to think about winter at this stage as its just getting warmer but you was pretty spot on last winter however I dont think it was as drawn out as the winter before that.

This must be one of the coldest winter on record so far. I can talk for Scotland only but we are getting highs of 13 degrees and it's constantly raining. Cant wait for winter. I love winter
