i think betty was the perfect person for this role. I cant imagine judy garland playing this role. Betty seems like she has a fun and silly performance and she brought it to this role.
Betty made the better Annie... but the crew treated her just awful and refused to talk to her and were very mean...no wonder she later went bonkers...
Wow - there's huge differences to Judy's performances! FOr one thing, the actress (duh!), then the children, the colours of the costumes - they all look more ferrel and mud loving, the choreopgraphy, the accent, and the final change is not obvious is the camera work: the angle changes at different points. I must say, I like both because they "stand on their own" but i prefer the children in Judy's film to Betty's: they sound better when singing. (They're not growling "doing" as such.)
awful. just... horrible. maybe older gays will like this, but... she is terrible. a comic character come to life, cloyingly. unfit for screen, or for stage.
To each his own, but many of us KNOW that Betty Hutton was a tremendous talent ... not better than Judy and not worse ... she was different and many, many, many people appreciate and love how "different" Betty was! I know I sure do ...
i knew a different versin thats moer about sex, like in the last verse, instead of "uncle dick was always sick but never saw a doctor, he just died at 93, doin a what come natur'lly" it was "uncle bill was on a hill with someone he just married, There he is at 93 doing what comes natur'lly"
There was also a line in that version that says "Sister Rose has lots of beaus although we have no parlor, she does fine behind a tree doin' what comes natur'lly!" People, just think about it.
I think that Judy and Betty are both great, but for this particular seen, Betty did it much better. 1) Because she wasn't sick, 2) She can get the Hill Billy dialect pretty good, while Judy's dialect sounds kind of... odd.
Judy can sing better, but she doesn't sounds like what Annie should sound like. Ya know? I love both of them though.... :) The Indian song and you can't get a man with a gun are really good too.
She is awesome but they need a more country person

Even though she is supposed to be a country hick it's just a little too strained for my taste.

I think she's meant to be like that though.
Terrific Song!

I disagree, the songs are what made some people, forget their troubles. If only for the length of the move.
