Hey the guy from animal house was on this show LOL! This era was a bit before my time, although it seems it was really good tv before these damn irritating reality shows popped up everywhere!!!
This remains the best medical drama on TV for my money. Characters lived and died, some evolved and moved on to better things. Others didn't have it quite as easy. Most weren't very likeable, but acted human and you felt for them. Nobody was perfect or one-dimensional. Just like real life.
Unless Netflix Picks it up as streaming like they did with the Wonder Years or we can DVR it for for personal use off of TV. I highly doubt we will ever see all of Saint Elsewhere ever released on DVD. Luckily around 2001 or so it was in syndication again on TV Land (Back when TV Land was TV Land!) then Bravo. So I got to see most of the whole series enough to understand what happens generally. This show shows how hospitals were in the 80s with HMOs and close/mergers
@JimRockford39 +1!!!! I don't know what the companies are thinking!!!!!!! It's been 5 years since they launched season 1, and we're still waiting! unbelievable.

he has got some vivid immagination then, I think I read that almost 90%+ of all TV shows were his immagination, since st elsewhere crossed over to other shows and those shows crossed over and on and on and on
I just watched the openings of the first four seasons, and, fanatic about the show that I was, relived those seasons, and the unifying presence for the whole series?
Stephen Furst was in Animal House and now doing serious acting awesome :) also Howie Mandel had hair and Mark Harmon was always handsome and so was Denzel Washington :) also William Daniels (aka Kitt 's voice on Knight Rider and also as Mr. George Feeney from Boy Meets World) and so on :) Great Cast
I only have one memory of an episode where I felt really sad for a man trapped in a stairway when I believe the building was about to fall in on itself. I think it was the finale of season 2, but I was a very small child. I'd love to see it again, if someone has the episode, please let me know. RSK10580@rcn.com
@RSK10580 I don't have the episode in question, but I think I can help you shed some light on it. I believe you are referring to the final episode of season five, "Last Dance at Wrecker's Ball", where Dr. Auschlander was trapped in St. Eligius just prior to it's demolition. If I come across the episode in question, I'll definitely let you know. Hope the information helps for your own search...
ed flanders was just like anthony zerbe, david strathairn, edward herrmann, and many other character actors that can act rings around most of the "big stars" of today. no hamming it up, just playing their characters very, very well. i miss him.
I loved that show! Yesterday, for some unknown reason, I realized I was humming the tune to St. Elsewhere. I had to have a look for the videos and found yours. Thanks!

What a tremendous cast.

Christina Pickles sucked. Should have dumped her and kept Cynthia Sikes. HATED Rosenthal. Period. Worst character other than Peter White the rapist.

Not having any of the later seasons of this show on DVD is killing me.

One of the best, and sadly overlooked, shows pf all time.
What a stellar cast.

@Aeolis7
Actually, I don't think it was "overlooked:" TVGUIDE rated it first- or second-best dramatic series of all time, back in the '90's.

@gobears14 Me too, but I'll also remember him as John Adams.

When I see Mark Harmon during that time period, I think of when he played Ted Bundy. He did a great job.

I remember seeing a clip of the intro in which William Daniels received top billing. In which season was it?
snoopy64116 1 year ago
@snoopy64116 That was the last season, #6. While Ed Flanders got it for the first 5, William Daniels got it for that last one.
