Every age group can play any game regardless of the age rating. Parents are actually supposed to be the middle man/woman in this interaction, although most simply don't care or don't wish to exert the minimum amount of effort (5 minutes of research) to figure out what a game is about. Splinter Cell Chaos Theroy should've been T. The only main reason that one became M from Pandora Tommorow because they added strong language. I do not understand why so many are hostile towards the ESRB when all it does is rate the game for content. Parents should be informed about what their kids are playing and people who are easily offended should know if a game contains nudity or graphic violence. Only 13 yr olds etc who can not purchase M rated games have a problem with the ESRB.

@Plato86 I am 16 and I have problems with ESRB, I hate it, 16+ games are almost gone these days, most are devided in either 18+ and 10+/everyone. Making me able to buy a game with a good story, good plottwists, and so on, or less good games, more of the repitive type obviously aimed for a younger audience.

Now, people at stores ask you to show your ID for 18+ games, making it impossible for a 15 to 17 year old to buy something else than My Little Pony Adventures.

Don't blame the ESRB for poor quality E games, blame the developers. A game does not have to have graphic violence or nudity in order to have good gameplay or a good storyline. Ninetendo manages to make fun and interesting E games as do other companies. However most companies chose to focus their energy making higher quality M games since the average gamer is getting older. The end result is that E games tend to have simplistic plots, repetitive gameplay and even more bugs.

We game consumers must take some responsibility for crappy E games because in the end it is our demands that the developers are responding to. Example this holiday season the market will be saturated with shooters, most will be carbon copies of one another and boring, few will be great. Why is this? It is because developers saw MW2 and BC2 make a killing and wish to share in the profits. If we keep buying crappy shooters developers will keep making them and as cheaply as possible.

Because if you make a game where somebody has a knife for two seconds in the game then it's going to be rated M BECAUSE of those 2 seconds out of the whole game, and stupid parents take one look at the rating and refuse to buy it, the ratings are often misleading, but are only guidelines, but not many people realize this and simply lock the game out due to it's rating.

That really is not true at all, look at the Zelda games, Link has a sword and none of those games are rated M. The ratings of games are fairly accurate, with the exception of things like " references to drugs". I always see " references to drugs" on the ESRB label but never see them in the actual game. Anyway the only way to get an M rating is through graphic violence, meaning blood and gore, or the rare case of strong sexual content. Other than that it is hard to achieve M rating.

It's not up to the ESRB whether you can buy a game, if you are still a child it is up to your parents. Again you can not blame the ESRB for the actions of your parents, they just report the content. I do not know what PG- 13 movies you watch but I never seen a person literally blown to pieces in one. However in Fallout 3 that is a routine sight. You can even nail a person's head to the wall with a railroad spike gun.
