this guy has a wonderful career ahead.... too light or not he is great..... I sang in a choir when he was Duka at Rotterdam some 10 years ago and already then he was good. You know..... some people have it some don't...... He has it definitively.......
Calleja is only 31 (born in 1978). He's a baby tenor at this stage and already he displays everything necessary for a great and memorable career. With his intelligence, musicality and truly magnificent voice, I look forward to decades of outstanding singing.
Wobble?? I mean if you don't like the voice fine but stating there is a wobble in this voice is ridicolous. Its a beautiful, heartfelt and solid interpretation.
You quite clearly have no clue what you are talking about. Excuse me for saying so. This tenor has a faster vibrato if anything, and a wobble is a too slow and wide vibrato.
As a tenor i'm so pleased to see a Bjorling sound back on the scene - the romance of tenor is coming back - great work Joseph! His voice is great for French opera
Me too, funky, me too. It really comes as a soothing balm to have a tenor with a beautiful freely emitted lyric voice sing to us. - Instead of popping a blood vessel roaring at the top of his lungs & showing us the contents of his stomach through his unhinged jaw.
The confidence that Joseph has in the security of his technique is remarkable. Even Jussi himself didn't fine B flats away like this in live performance.
It has to be said, that Joseph not only has a fantastic voice & technique, but he also seems to find a beautiful musical line, & involves himself in the dynamics of the piece too. I think he already is an extraordinary artist who can righfully take his place among the great tenors.
I have to say that Bjorling's command of the decrescendo was more secure than Calleja's here, Calleja may have made a smaller pianissimo than Bjorling did, but I have to say that it wasn't a pleasant sound. Sounded like some of Pavarotti's nastier attempts at pianissimo past his prime.
Très belle voix lyrique-légère "à l'ancienne", très rare aujourd'hui, avec du corps sur toute la tessiture, et beaucoup de couleurs dans les modulations... Ce vibrato est vraiment électrisant ! Génial ! Je crois réentendre l'époque des Gigli... Superbe !
Nel video del concerto di Malta del luglio 2008, "la donna è mobile", si avverte la somiglianza con Pavarotti perché raccoglie di più il suono, che in questo modo è maggiormente pieno e secondo me migliore. Per il resto ho già detto. Saluti cordiali.
Sono abbastanza vecchio di aver sentito il grande Jussi in teatro. Questo e l' unico tenore da quei tempi che potrebbe prendere la sua corona. Riguardo alla somiglianza con Pavarotti e forse interessante ricordare che Pavarotti si e modellato la sua carriera (repertorio) sull grande tenore Svedese. Infatti le tre voci hanno delle simiglianza di estensione, facilita e smalto di suono. La cosa piu importante e che sono subito riconoscibili e non generici come tanti altri tenori di oggi.
Una piccola voce di tenore leggero, molto duttile e facile in acuto, segno di una buona emissione. Peccato per l'appoggio tremolante che però potrà migliorare. Buona interpretazione artistica, nei limiti del timbro. Il "lamento di Federico" mi è piaciuto di più. Credo che sia ancora acerbo.

Ho ascoltato "la donna è mobile" 2007 e ho riscontrato un timbro simile a quello di Florez. Sbaglio? So bene che ha 30 anni e ci aspettiamo molto, soprattutto per la scarsità di buoni tenori. Il vibrato mi lascia ancora perplesso però se pensiamo all'evoluzione di Corelli...
Non centra assolutamente la voce con Florez ed in teatro la voce e molto ma molto piu grande. Mi ricorda molto Bjorling, che ho sentito dall vivo quando ero molto piccolo. Tanti fanno il paragone "Pavarotti" ma non sento alcuna somiglianza.
Riguardo alla somiglianza con Florez mi riferisco alla leggerezza del suono lirico-leggero, non al colore del timbro che è certamente diverso. In merito a Pavarotti, devo dire che anch'io ho trovato delle somiglianze, in alcuni momenti, nell'emissione e in alcuni accenti. Non l'ho mai ascoltato dal vivo e non posso giudicare. Recentemente ho sentito invece Kunde in Norma: ha cantato benissimo, in registrazione (RAI 3) era irriconoscibile. Cercherò di seguirlo, i pareri sono contrastanti.
ti consiglio di sentire una recondita eccezzionale e un "fior" ancora meglio di questo video. Unico difetto che posso percipire e che copre un po troppo il passaggio ed ha ancora la tendenza di qualche suono nasaleggiante. Detto questo ha solo ancora 30 anni....
Villazon's voice is damaged however Florez is a great singer in his repertoire. This version is one of the best ever although he improved it at the Cadogan in London a couple of months ago.
Tonyantony I agree with you 100% this boy from Malta is wonderful in the old style of Tenors Like Schipa and Cortez he has been trained corectly his production diction and breathing are wonderful and your absolutly right when you say he is the furture!!! Villazon and florez do nothing for me...Bravo Joseph!!!!!!
