hey i was wondering if u have a clutch pack that is under or over spec what do u do? do that make steels that are thinner or thicker?when i did my 4l60e i had to use an old steel because one of the steels were .040 thinner
@peanutbutterisfu Some clutch packs have a special steel plate that is a certain thickness and some have a snap ring that is a certain thickness. If its out of spec you would have to get the right thickness plate/snap ring.
hey i need help i have 95 f150 xlt 4x4 put new clucth new pilot bearing new master cylinder slave pump and still dont wann get reverse am getting real upset wit this truck can anyone hellp me
I just took this apart and that wavy spring thing (I couldn't hear what you called it) snapped. What is it called and where is the best place to get a new one, I noticed that they don't come in rebuild kits.
@the70stang If you do a google search for "whatever it takes transmission" the first thing that comes up is their website and they have the spring you need along with an exploded view of the transmission so that you can find the parts.
@bah53 Thanks! Your videos are extremely helpful! It's nice to know that there are still people who want to share their knowledge instead of selling it.
How do you install the piston back with the new seals? spent a whole 3 hours trying to do it.... does not go all the way to the bottom of the drum. Lubed seals with petroleum jelly and I.D. of drum. but does not drop to the bottom .
@matrxmax What I ended up doing on that one was to start one side of the outer seal first, then with a small dull screwdriver I carefully pushed in the seal all the way around as I was pushing down on the piston. It took forever but it worked. Or you could buy the proper lip seal protectors which are a little over $100
so what kit should i buy for my 1989 ford f150 with a a lariat. When i drive it it goes for ten min then just reves so what kit should i buy and i know i will need a pump and converter.
A regular rebuild kit should do fine (frictions, steels, seals, gaskets). You probably can leave the bushings unless you find that they are worn once you get inside. As far as a brand of rebuild kit to use its up to you, my direct clutches were stamped "borg warner" and even they weren't the proper thickness.
Thanks for the post bah53. I'm going to replace the C4 in my 76 Bronco with an AOD. Now, I'm going to do the rebuild myself. Been turning wrenches for 25 years, just never been inside of an automatic. Are you going to post the rest of the rebuild?
In your Ford AO transmissions rebuild clips, you reference measurements obtained from the manual, would you have these specs or a place I could obtain a manual for the 88 ford AO transmission. Can you tell me how many critical tolerances are their in this 88 AO rebuild?
@mrkasav1 If you search for "ATSG AOD manual" on google you should find some places that sell it. There is a measurement for each of the clutch packs, an end play check and a servo piston travel measurement.
i jerked off to this....
