@Thsnickaman its PASOKON (persocon - personal computer) a common terms for PC, and yes CHOBITS use that term for a different meaning as in human shaped computer
@SMGJohn exactly, if pc guy was running linux he could be running for years without restarting haha. actually he wouldn't have to restart at all, all he would need to do is logout, or use the killall command and he's as good as restarted. unlike mac who is over simplified for its customers that it will actually "restart" sometimes for updates and such.
@megamanxu Well, I don't really worry if the operating system becomes slow because it has been running for long time. But I care about the hardware because the computer get's hot and if you run it for several days straight you damage the hardware.
@SMGJohn what if you're running a server? and most ppl who own a mac doesn't turn it off, like i'm not assuming anything, but every sing person i saw using a mac doesn't turn it off and only set it to sleep/hibernate.
@megamanxu That's why Mac get's more hardware damage then PC's, because people don't turn them off. At my school people just never turned them off and after a couple of month half of them where sent to repair... While I refused to use Mac I had PC and I never experienced any problems
The only times I've seen the whole Mac OS X crash and panic is with a hardware fault. And the application that by itselfs crashes the most, is Microsoft Office!!!
This is so funny, one because I love Japanese humor, and two, because thelast time I used a Mac, all of the Mac's in the lab froze, and the IT guy couldn't say or do anything about it because the Mac's had created their own untracable problems. It was absurd!
The Japanese are so polite, eh? I mean, Mac just politely says that he'll get the repairman and asks the audience to look after PC, whereas in the US version it was nonexistent ^.^
the last five times i have used a mac it crashed for no apparent reason i didn't just the desktop even have any programs running got up for the bathroom came back and it was locked up i suggest linux ubuntu or gentoo
The Japanese version looks a little like the good ol' "fool (PC) vs. straight man (Mac)"-pattern. The US version, however, doesn't really have this pattern, since they allow the PC to behave like a normal person. For instance, in the commercial about 'video production', the Japanese PC was still impressed by his own (horrible) work, while the US PC was embarrased by it.
In the US commercials, the Mac is Justin Long (an actor, who has appeared in "Dodgeball", among other films), and the PC is John Hodgman, a comedian and author, who frequently contributes to The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. The commercials actually helped boost Hodgman's career (and backfired a bit on Apple in the process--PC's funny, while Mac comes off as a jerk).
Sounds like the PC is more famous than the mac. Yeah he does come across as a jerk here! Same for the UK ones, though the actor who played PC is slightly more popular than his other comedic half, again the mac does seem like an arrogant twat.
But in the Japanese the two seem like brothers! :)
@LeTinctoire This exact screenplay has been done in the US and the UK, and top actors were used for each. How are the Japanese ones "way better"? O _o
@ChristopherDone The screenplay is differs significantly. The US/UK Mac is a bit sarcastic about PC rebooting the second time (esp. US), while the Japanese Mac remains optimistic and cheerful. This Mac's last line is also not "*sigh* we had him, we lost him".
Of course, it's all a matter of taste, but I prefer the Japanese skits. While the humour in all these Mac ads is incredibly simple, I think the Japanese ones are a bit more subtle than the US/UK skits.
@Shoen Language is more than words. If you just write text, you miss intonation and misinterpret one's intentions. If you would use the original commercial with a Japanese dub, the body language and other visual cues might be slightly off for Japanese people.
I doubt a dub of the original ad would be as effective as this one, even if you ignore Japan's trademark xenophobia.
are they saying "persacom" like in chobits??

Also, CAPSLOL @ "I'll call IT.", PC user solve problem themselves, Mac user call Apple Support hehe :D

Different humour patterns.
The Japanese version looks a little like the good ol' "fool (PC) vs. straight man (Mac)"-pattern. For instance, in the commercial about 'video production', the Japanese PC was still impressed by his own (horrible) work, while the US PC was embarrased by it.
LeTinctoire 4 years ago 3
I guess the UK version is somewhere in between them, mostly because the PC ends up putting his foot in his mouth.
LeTinctoire 4 years ago 2
I like the uk versions better. To me they're more interesting than the us ones.
andyswVids 4 years ago
To be fair, the Japanese will love these commercials because it features a popular comedy duo
Just like in the english ones, we all recognised mitchell and webb.
but who are the US people apart from one's in dodgeball?
livvyxo 2 years ago
In the US commercials, the Mac is Justin Long (an actor, who has appeared in "Dodgeball", among other films), and the PC is John Hodgman, a comedian and author, who frequently contributes to The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. The original AMERICAN actors are Justin Long and John Hodgeman (he's a legend, how can you not have heard about him?)
These Japanese commercials are boring, the British ones are the best...
