I loved this video! I'm throwing a "movie nite" party tomorrow night to show it to about a dozen friends. So far I've turned on over 100 people to FORKS OVER KNIVES and FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD so this is the next video we need to spread the word about. "Let thy food be thy medicine" (Socrates ?) will be our battle cry because (at least in the U.S.) we're in quite a pickle re our health and it all relates to the SAD (Standard American Diet) many eat. Watch the movie today! Namaste, Monique
Been vegan since September and I absolutely LOVE IT! No meat, fish or dairy; not missing any of it. The best part is I've lost weight, feel better, have clearer skin and better focus. I'm NEVER going back to the SAD diet!
That is Great!!!! Keep going! I wish so hard that I too could join and be vegan but I've been trying for about a 3 months and every single day....i mess it up.... So, KEEP GOING!!!
I want to see this so bad! It's kind of mean to try and spread a message but only to America. I am from Australia, but I cannot buy or rent it because it is available in America.
I respect the ethics behind veganism, but I don't see how I could possibly do it. Am I supposed to eat flax seeds for the rest of my life? Eventually, I'd feel deprived and probably rebound to the other extreme. Maybe a better plan would be to reform the slaughterhouses and, on the health side, to shift to lean beef and chicken.
@sonoki82 i wend cold turkey vegan 15 days ago, and so far not even drooling when i see meat, cheesecake or any other non-veg foods. It really depends on your cultural and social diet. I am south indian in america and since there are so many south indian vegan options i am used to its not difficult for me. However, on an American diet that requires the use of milk, egg or meat in something or the other, I suggest that you use substitutes such as Ener-G eggs or earth balance butter. Its not hard.
@sonoki82 I thought I was going to feel deprived too. I'm on week three and my energy is through the roof. My teenage daughter made it easy for me...she is the one who couldn't take seeing the animal on the plate anymore. If you can find a friend/family member who will start with you it might make it easier. P.S. You can always try it for a week!
@BackPorchSoap I respect you and your daughter for making a change. So now in week 3, how do you and your daughter feel in terms of energy, hunger, etc.? Also, what have you been eating for dinner?
@sonoki82 Learn some vegan recipes, the options are almost limitless. As a former meat eater, I can tell you that the tastiest foods I've ever had (bar none) are vegan foods. :)
i just went vegan (vegetarian before for 8 months and on and off for 2 yrs) and LOVE it i no longer suffer from stomach issues and my god has my energy increased. Its really tasty and not hard just takes some practice, research and creativity for meal ideas :).
I have beena raw vegan for 48 years The taste the vaiety the color vannot be duplicted with any other diet
plants are colorful and with creativity and spices and herbs you can make anything vegan taste like anything you are addicted to and want to recreate.
I"ve been slaughtering pigs since 3 years old... now... i see no problem when i see my animals to do it again ...BUT 8 week grown chicken from store will never be as tasty as those ones I"ve killed and eaten... so ... diet for me means health, taste and quality...no offence but "go fuck yourselves-you save the planet people... the planet will be here for ever"...
I think every meat eater in the world should have a look at what goes on at a slaughterhouse and also at the places they "grow" these animals which is even worse, and then decide if they want to keep eating meat or not. I know meat tastes good, god it tastes like heaven but it is HORRIBLE what goes behind so i can eat a freaking cheeseburger. Staying away from animal products will change your life in evert aspect fro GOOD. It is hard at first, just like everything else, but well worth it.

@PerfectEclipse No I don't to be honest. But your statement makes you slund like an idiot. To be honest. Veganism is a shitty way of life. There's probably never been as much suffering at any point in time in the earth's history, than there is right now. 1 BILLION people starving currently, massive wars, ecological devastation, rampant diseases and of course 65 Billion animals killed annually, most in horrific ways. Let's not add to that. I believe you and everyone has the potential for doing so much good- let's realize it
@PerfectEclipse I am not suffering. There's plenty of joy at my home :). I am sorry but the animals killed is for my food and I will not change that. The people starving nor the wars isn't really my concern. The ecological desaster well I dont even see that so I am good. There's no diseases in my family either. Its not my concern what happens everywhere in the world. I am happy in my own life.
@lovebigboobs29 You might not be suffering, and you and your family might not "appear" sick, but that is no reason not to care. @PerfectEclipse There is no "appear" sick they aren't sick. Bloodwork and lifestyle proves that. No meds at all nor needed. I am fine with my lifestyle and no I wont see how it feels like. I live in an area thats not lacking anything nor will it. Life will be the same maybe not in less fortunate areas but I choose not to live in those areas.
I think going vegetarian is a more viable option...heck Ghandi himself couldn't even sustain himself on a purely vegan diet as he had to supplement with goat's milk to sustain his health.
Ok so there's a lot of vegans on here I was wondering if you guys could tell me if it costs more to be Vegan, I'm interested but as a student I don't know if I could afford special types of foods and stuff from health shops.
@deadinmybed101 Hi! I've been a vegetarian for two years, and have been transitioning to a vegan diet. (I LOVE IT! Eating some split pea soup with tortilla chips and hummus right now) ... Some vegan options are a bit more expensive unfortunately. But that's because the cheap stuff is processed, full of empty calories, and a bunch of nastiness. Spending maybe $10-$20 more a month on vegan, HEALTHY food is SO worth it for your wallet and body in the long run! Good luck :)
@deadinmybed101 honestly meat and dairy is way more expensive than eating a plant based diet, that is if you are a whole foods vegan. Stay away from meat alternatives and the "fake" vegan foods because not only are they processed and high in sodium, they are more expensive. you don't need special foods to be vegan, just start with vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
@millennialgirl yeah that's what I'm slowing working into my diet :) definitely not something I could manage over night though! Thanks for the advice :)
@millennialgirl, LOL, I used to eat the veggie "meats" all the time. I've slowly worked towards a mostly whole foods diet, but I still love my veggie "meats" for pasta. It took me awhile to learn, a lot longer than it should have. I now have a Vitamix and it's just that much more easier to consume whole foods.
I would recommend a good vegan cookbook like Vegan on the Cheap by Robin Robertson. There's plenty of delicious, inexpensive meals you can make without animal products. Your local library probably has a good selection of veg cookbooks.
I feel if people are smart and care about living well-- insuring their future... they will go vegan. I find it tremendously brave of people. And weak when people choose to stay so ignorant.
Went vegan a few months ago (from being a vegetarian for years) and I couldn't have made a better decision in my entire life :) For my health, the positive energy I take in from plants, for the millions of animals and the planet around me.. It's a beautiful, compassionate, and a very humbling lifestyle and I can only wish that all of us unite in adopting it :)
I totally agree with the whole vegetarian deal. I really only eat meat because we eat what my step-mom makes at my house. ( And I doubt my dad would buy me special food to make my own meals.) Once I move out, I plan on going veggie. However, I don't quite get the vegan thing, only because I remember hearing that there is a medical need for cows to be milked. Granted, I'd love for said cows to not be squeezed dry, but the sad truth is that animals will always be mistreated, regardless of vegans.
@animalsrock345375 You'll come to it for sure. Watch "The Best Speech You'll Ever Hear" by Gary Yourofsky on YT. I went vegan 5 minutes after I clicked play :) Best of luck!
I gave up meat and dairy a year ago, and have never been sick since. I have not had one cold ! Amazing. Feel good too. Red meat takes up to three days to leave the body, that should turn anybody off.
Most people are not aware of the hideous treatment of animals in animal farming. Most people have no idea of the health benefits of a plant based diet.
This documentary should circulate far and wide and educate people for their own good and for the good of animals. The more we put kindness in our hearts, the more the world will become kind.
Cant wait to see the outcome for this group. Happy they were able to connect to the idea if only for a moment. Compassion is contagious. They will not forget the truth or the vegducation they received.
It wasn't until I was in my early 20s and someone asked me a simple question: Could you kill your dinner and then eat it?
My answer was no. So I had to make a simple choice... stop eating meat.
Factory farms remove the compassion from eating. Kids don't even know a "Chicken Burger" was at some point an animal. They just eat it. That's how far people are disconnected.
This looks incredible. I can't wait to see this. This will help a lot of people adopt this lifestyle and if not, at least people will maybe think I'm less crazy!
it was a great idea in the first place and it looks like it's going to be a fantastic film. i look forward to airing it on our tv show (if and when permitted) and encouraging people to buy it to air even more widely. bravo! its release is wonderful news!
Wow, what a great concept. How many similar responses would we hear when posed with the question, "could you go vegan"?. Asking a group of people to change their eating habits, layering in emotional support, dietary consultations, animal education, etc., is an amazing way to relate to the majority of the population. This film seems like it educates people on all of the aspects of a healthy and cruelty-free diet while providing encouragement and support. Bravo Marisa!
We can talk about the health benefits of eating a plant based diet until the cows come home, but it is only when compassionate humans have a look inside a slaughterhouse, do they make that connection.
@CDLver Agree! The average person has no idea where their food really comes from. Many people do not even know what a FACTORY FARM is. We have absolutely no right to treat animals the way we do - to deny them the chance to exhibit their natural behaviours. When I see someone eating bacon, I immediately think of the confined unhappy pigs, one of our most intelligent species. And why? Just so damn humans can eat them. And these poor animals often get abused and tortured by workers
I CANNOT wait to see this. This looks like the movie that we should show our peers every time they ask us why we're vegan. Thank you. Please bring it to Miami, not so many veggie friendly people here.
What a beautiful, realistic version of the difficulty and reward of living a greener lifestyle. This film is going to have a huge following! Thank you for posting this film & please keep us posted on when and where we can see it! THANK YOU!
How awesome that you all are taking the time to actually teach and walk people through the process of nutrition, health, compassion and awareness. Amazing!
Marisa, thank you for undertaking this, such important work for the planet~ the people~ and no less~ the animals! please bring this to europe (holland) too, if you can!
Thanks, everyone, for the amazing feedback on our trailer. We're submitting to festivals now, and our premiere depends on which festivals we get into. We're shooting for a Spring '11 premiere, then hitting more film fests and veg fests around the country this summer. Fingers crossed for some sweet distribution deals and bringing the film to a cable channel, community center, college and even movie theater (gasp!) near you next fall!
Really great trailer Marisa, these film clips always make me all emotional seeing all the bad things that the meat/animal industry is and then seeing how once people are aware they change and this clip is no different, I also like that although there are no graphic shots in the trailer, save that for the film (or not, we'll see) I wish you the very best with this film and all you are going to achieve...yey for people changing the world we live in for the better x
The trailer makes the film look nicely balanced. It is difficult talking about food and eating issues because it taps into our culture, traditions and plain ol' habit. Most get defensive at first, a natural reaction. We don't want to be told what we have been eating for our whole lives has so many negative effects (health-personal and public, environmental, animal and human rights). A gentle delivery is a nice start. I am a 1yr vegan, so will be fun to see how these folks make out!
Yes, I am smack dab in the middle of this demographic. Very curious to see the whole film. *Really* hope it doesn't get preachy. I'd be totally turned off by that. More interested in how the three cope with the change in lifestyle and if they manage to continue with it past the 6 weeks - and if they couldn't, why not. Looks fascinating.

@Mikgwerd, Fair enough. I don't want to tell you this, but goat's milk is a lot more healthy than cow milk.

Ok so there's a lot of vegans on here I was wondering if you guys could tell me if it costs more to be Vegan, I'm interested but as a student I don't know if I could afford special types of foods and stuff from health shops.
deadinmybed101 4 months ago
@deadinmybed101 Hi! I've been a vegetarian for two years, and have been transitioning to a vegan diet. (I LOVE IT! Eating some split pea soup with tortilla chips and hummus right now) ... Some vegan options are a bit more expensive unfortunately. But that's because the cheap stuff is processed, full of empty calories, and a bunch of nastiness. Spending maybe $10-$20 more a month on vegan, HEALTHY food is SO worth it for your wallet and body in the long run! Good luck :)
americanpie3491 4 months ago 5
@americanpie3491 cheers for the support I'll definitely have to look into it :)
deadinmybed101 4 months ago 2
@deadinmybed101 honestly meat and dairy is way more expensive than eating a plant based diet, that is if you are a whole foods vegan. Stay away from meat alternatives and the "fake" vegan foods because not only are they processed and high in sodium, they are more expensive. you don't need special foods to be vegan, just start with vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
millennialgirl 4 months ago 5
@millennialgirl yeah that's what I'm slowing working into my diet :) definitely not something I could manage over night though! Thanks for the advice :)
deadinmybed101 4 months ago
@millennialgirl, LOL, I used to eat the veggie "meats" all the time. I've slowly worked towards a mostly whole foods diet, but I still love my veggie "meats" for pasta. It took me awhile to learn, a lot longer than it should have. I now have a Vitamix and it's just that much more easier to consume whole foods.
LloydChristmas777 3 months ago 2
@LloydChristmas777 what is your vitamix?
millennialgirl 3 months ago
@millennialgirl, A very good restaurant or home blender. It's pricy, but I see it as a health investment. Check it out on Youtube.
LloydChristmas777 3 months ago 3
@millennialgirl
The Vitamix is the best investment I ever made. And when, my child goes off to college, I'll buy one for him, too.
animalliberation0961 3 months ago 2
@deadinmybed101

PirouetteMakeup 5 months ago 4
I totally agree with the whole vegetarian deal. I really only eat meat because we eat what my step-mom makes at my house. ( And I doubt my dad would buy me special food to make my own meals.) Once I move out, I plan on going veggie. However, I don't quite get the vegan thing, only because I remember hearing that there is a medical need for cows to be milked. Granted, I'd love for said cows to not be squeezed dry, but the sad truth is that animals will always be mistreated, regardless of vegans.

They will not forget the truth or the vegducation they received.
julesbeetle 7 months ago
It wasn't until I was in my early 20s and someone asked me a simple question: Could you kill your dinner and then eat it?
My answer was no. So I had to make a simple choice... stop eating meat.
Factory farms remove the compassion from eating. Kids don't even know a "Chicken Burger" was at some point an animal. They just eat it. That's how far people are disconnected.

Looking forward to this film!
CDLver 11 months ago 60
@CDLver Agree! The average person has no idea where their food really comes from. Many people do not even know what a FACTORY FARM is. We have absolutely no right to treat animals the way we do - to deny them the chance to exhibit their natural behaviours. When I see someone eating bacon, I immediately think of the confined unhappy pigs, one of our most intelligent species. And why? Just so damn humans can eat them. And these poor animals often get abused and tortured by workers

Thanks, everyone, for the amazing feedback on our trailer. We're submitting to festivals now, and our premiere depends on which festivals we get into. We're shooting for a Spring '11 premiere, then hitting more film fests and veg fests around the country this summer. Fingers crossed for some sweet distribution deals and bringing the film to a cable channel, community center, college and even movie theater (gasp!) near you next fall!

jolcabouch 1 year ago
