  • Summer in the City had a far, far, better sideburn score.

  • Haha, so '60s! :) That was the era of real rock 'n roll! Things like these videos give me fun insight as to the lives my parents had to pleasure of living when they were growing up.

  • @VolcanosGoBoom I am a baby boomer like your parents and the sixties music is still awesome.Saw the Lovin Spoonful last night

  • I miss REAL music!

  • Zally! Love ya!

  • @MetaObby i think rap is popular today for the same reason rock became popular years ago: it is simple and easy to play. rock required only three chords. rap requires a rapper and a DJ.

  • cool song...it looks like the guitar player was borrowed from the ramones.

  • lol12272

  • AMAZING! THOSE DANCERS ARE GETTING IT ON LOL

  • Great feel-good song. Great for a quick-step, fly over the dance floor to this!

  • I have loved the Spoonfuls for the past... 40 plus years! Doesnt this tune make u feel better ? I still believe in magic of love and music !

  • I Love this song :)

  • Love that autoharp.

  • I once heard this saying: "Happy as a Hippie in a haystack"... and that seems so appropriate for this video. I love it.! Thanks for posting this.

  • i like this song its cool

  • you just have had to have been there OK--if our generation hadn't developed rock music--there wouldn't be anything for yours to build on--some music was good and some was bad but we brought rock into the world--just go listen to your own music!

  • That's Great ! it's only been 40 years or so ?

  • I believe in magic every day with GOD!!!!

  • Coolstorybro.

  • I am A LADY!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT A BRO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It happens !! LOL And your right Rockivory . Sorry abut that ...

  • I thought it was a harpsicord ..?

  • It's an autoharp....a harpsichord has keys like a piano

  • This looks like "Hollywood Au GoGo".

They had the Most Foxy Dancers of any of the shows. Just look at the brunette.

That's what I call" Natural Male Enhancement." there's a lot more of Her in the Bo Diddley song "Let The Kids Dance". I'm sure even the Band was blown away by that 20th Century Fox!

  • My favorite song ever:)

  • he's playing a zither!!!!!!

  • My favorite song, hands doen, every time I hear it, I have to stop what I'm doing just to dance and sing along to it...

  • @RSG1994 I so agree

  • Such a Timeless tune. R.I.P. Zally...

  • @12347771 R.I.P :)

  • amazingness! you can almost physically taste the happiness!

  • @JUSTHANG10 :)

  • I mean no offense whatsoever, but pause around 0:18 - John Sebastian looks absolutely retarded with happiness.

I love this song and its happifying abilities.

  • Retarded with happiness, lol that's we should all look. XD

  • @grands1am You (and I for that matter) would probably look exactly the same way if we had that much LSD in out systems!

  • @grands1am LOL...probably partly because of pot.

  • man my dad always goeson about how he used to play with them an how great they were in concert i can tell he was tellin the truth

  • @JemiLoveandNiley1 good luck with it even though it has probably all ready happened

  • american pie song

  • indeed

  • garret it took no effort what-so-ever! lol

our world was far more innocent than today's world is so maybe that was part of it as well. cheers!

  • stan2211stan

yep thats what most of us looked like in our day! short skirts, long hair, great music! we were 'bitchin cool!

  • And without tryin to be....

  • Was this "Hollywood Au Go Go"???

They had the best and far and away most foxy Dancers. The brunette with the longer hair must be in Her 60's now and I'd still jump her bones LOL!!!!!!

  • The song could have been called "Do You Believe in Human Sacrifice?", and for 2 minutes, I'd believe in it with a smile. I think we need more songs like that today, songs you can listen to and forget the problems, big and small, in this world, songs that make you happy and let you lose yourself in the Magic.

  • Until 10 minures ago I thought Zal was alive and well. A great Human Being and a tremendous Guitarist too - for real.

    The Spoonful are TITANS.

    NOT WERE - ARE.

Their Music is still alive and still better than that mountain of shit the turd burglar programmers feed the public on a daily basis Today.

    "Modern Country"?

    Dude - You're TRIPPING...

  • Yes, Stan...this is one of the great bands that ever existed. I'm just sick about the shit that people take as music now...

It's really pathetic...it's obvious no one listens to music anymore, they just pose to it...

  • Stereotypes good going.

  • i re-wrote this song for my hockey team that im captain of. haha. good memories of junior high hockey....ahhh

  • 70s and 80s music will forever rock ! todays music just gets worse and worse. and im 16 :)

  • 22justforfun.........this tune came out in1966/summer of........you need to include the 60's as one of the best decade's of rock n' roll music, even better than the 70's or 80's. Of course this is just a matter of opinion to each indivudual's taste and such I was 16 in 1968 and always had the AM radio go'in. Their was no such thing as FM radio back than.....

  • oh.. thn 60s , 70s & 80s songs rock ! :D

  • 60s, 70s, and 80s......3 greatest decades in rock and roll. they will never be surpassed. start counting artists / groups from that time period who are hall of fame worthy, and you'll find yourself well above 150 and still counting.

  • Ye we really care how old you are...

  • This is like Michael jacksons music, It may be old but it still kicks ass

  • It sure does....

  • i had an arguement with people at work last week about how bad music had been over the last decade. some people don't know the difference between good and bad music anymore, shame to see what happens when you bring people up on the spice girls, britney spears and westlife. then wonder why they like tacky things and have bad taste.

  • Harsh. I'm actively searching for better music and consider myself to have quite good taste regardless of the fact that I was brought up largely on the Spice Girls.

While I know all of the words to nearly all of their songs, I could recite Pink Floyd's backwards in the same time.

Bad music is hard to find. Different people have different tastes, not forgetting they have to cater for a particular age group too.

There's nothing wrong with liking the Spice Girls.

    WE WERE TOLD TO, DAMNIT.

  • go to the 60's partner......you will enjoy

  • Im with all the young guns here, I'm 17 and the only modern band I really like is Gorillaz, and theyre composed of artists from the 70's! Love it

  • Sure miss those days.

  • one of the greatest songs of all time, easily the lovin spoonful's best. i counldnt agree more, this will live on forever

  • What was this band's time frame?

  • @sgtpepper41 1965--1069.

  • @jimd3500 Oops. I mean 1969.

  • im 17 and i totally agree todays music really really sucks

  • i think media as a whole this generation sucks. music, videogames, television shows and movies

  • actually, the video games aren't bad, but i agree with the rest.

  • Older music is better than modern. Stray Cat Strut, for example, is actually a pretty good song and it's about cats, for crying out loud lol no drugs, alcohol, sex, or demeaning language usage. Metallica is my favorite freaking band, but I do enjoy this kind of music, too.

  • Im only 16 and I love their song!!! This is a timeless classic that will live on forever :D Seriously, music nowadays are never this good :(

  • Well hey, I'm 16 too! Music (99.9%) today sucks.

  • I'd say "16, too! Lol!", but I'm 17 XP

  • @StevieWonder501

OMG, finally someone on this planet agrees with me that some music nowadays suck!! XD

  • To bad great songs like this have been ruined by commercialism like McDonalds commercials that used this tune. This song came on the radio where i worked and this dumb girl is like "OH MY GAWD THE MCDONALDS SONG I LOVED THIS SONG WHEN I WAS A KID". I just wanted to slap her stupid.

  • Wasn't this their first single release. I bought their greatest hits for my mum's Xmas present and I think I may have to steal it. I recognise a lot more songs then I thought I would and all of them are great.

  • FUCK ALY AND AJ. They fucking butchered the original and it's stupid as hell that I can't find the original song with out seeing the shitty Aly and AJ version first. Fuck them. Stupid bitches couldn't come up with their own original material, which is why no one listens to them.

  • Blast from the past.......I remember being in 6th grade and dancing along to this great song......thanks for posting and bringing back such happy memories for me

  • Listening to this makes a old heart feel young

  • Xuxa regravou essa musica , ficou muito legaus ! !

  • One of my all-time favorite bands,,,BRILLIANT songwriting. And who else ever made an autoharp look cool to play?

  • Truly Awesome Song. Totally Timeless. Has to be the epitome of a feel good song !

  • do you believe in magic in a young girls heart?

  • They played this song in 1993 at Yankee Stadium when Jim Abbott pitched a no-hitter. They played this song, after Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It."

  • One of the most perfect records ever made and one of rock and roll's definitive classics. Even if the Lovin' Spoonful had never made another record, this 1965 single alone would have been enough to guarantee their legacy in the upper echelons of rock and roll. Nothing against Aly And AJ, who do serve a purpose and whose records are not all that bad. But seriously, they had no business attempting a record this great. It's way, way out of their league. God bless the Lovin' Spoonful!

  • Love this song, but I sorta like the Aly and Aj Version better. Its just what Im used to. I bet if i heard this version first I'd like it better :P

  • This is a classically great song.

  • This song : MAKES ME FEEL HAPPY LIKE AN OLD TIME MOVIE!

    ~BEST LINE EVER!

  • It's sad that the cover by those two sisters have a higher view count. Sadly my curiosity got the better of me and I watched it (I feel so ashamed, haha). The cover sucks balls compared to the Lovin' Spoonfuls version. Even on Youtube with the shitty SQ.

  • I agree with you Bohemianism89 ! but think about it, which artist has more love and class? the sisters or Lovin' Spoonful?

  • If I didn't belive in Magic I wouldn't be able to get out of bed each day. Love this song.

  • I love the rhythm guitar at 0:29-0:40! What a classic!

  • this is the ultimate pick-me-up song

  • People who grew up with the Disney Channel version of this song miss the whole point.

Elvis joined the army, the Everly brothers split, Buddy Holly died. For two years big business owned pop music (Bobby Vee, Bobby Rydell ...).

Then from nowhere there was the Beatles, and the Stones, and the Beach Boys ...

When John B. Sebastian released this song we suddenly realised: we had taken our music back off them.

    No wonder Disney hates it.

  • i don´t know how people nowadays like the remixes of this songs and don´t give the credit to hippies and the psychadelic culture! it still all around in music but people forget where it came from :)

im just glad it still here

  • i love how its in a young girl's heart not a boy's :P haha!

  • we are singing this song in choir :)

  • I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee this song Go lovi'n spoon full.

  • Love this, I was singing it in my 2nd period class out loud, I got the black guys that im friends with me, to join in lol,

  • Great song. Stupid McDonald's having to use it for years used to really bother me.

  • This was the opening theme to an old-ish show on the telly... I think it was about a Jewish girl in a Catholic school...

    What was that show called?

  • State(s?) of Grace. (:

  • State of Grace. Yeah it was on ABC family likme in 2003.

  • great video, love the dancing and the song

  • best song of the 60s

  • why oh why am i growing up in a decade where the pop music is flat, lifeless and completely without magic?

wishing daily that i had been a teen in the sixties

  • I'm 12, and I wish this was the '60's. My dad was a teen in the '60's and he LOVED it.

  • I blame the econamic

  • Yeah, well, except for the part about being eligible to be drafted to go die in Viet Nam. That part wasn't so great.

  • good point!

  • Drenched in Love.. That was back in those times, when there was a heck of a lot of hope ...

  • I wish this song came out today so my peers could understand what it's all about.

  • God, i would have loved to have lived in the sixties

  • haha..you missed out!

  • lol yer

  • no you wouldn't have ....then you'd be old like me...I was 12 when this came out...

  • so was I and, by God, I still love it!

  • Do you believe in magic in a young girl's heart

How the music can free her, whenever it starts

And it's magic, if the music is groovy

It makes you feel happy like an old-time movie

I'll tell you about the magic, and it'll free your soul

But it's like trying to tell a stranger 'bout rock and roll

If you believe in magic don't bother to choose

If it's jug band music or rhythm and blues

Just go and listen it'll start with a smile

It won't wipe off your face no matter how hard you tr

  • this is probably the happiest song ever

  • This performance is worth it for the dancing *alone* (!)

Puts a smile on my face :o)

  • hilarious !

  • God they put a MILLION versions of the Aly and Aj crappy version but they can't pay omage to the original and much better classic? SHAME on Disney.

  • I was a child in the 60's and my 1st exposure to music was songs about peace and love. I love 60's songs. I created a playlist of 60's songs I watch them alot. This song was one of my favs. Thanks for sharing : ] XOXOXOOX

  • OMG.... I was feeling down today...I put this song on and know I feel like dancing,,,Yaaaayyyyyyyyy. And yeah I do believe in Magic!!!

  • Prancing go-go girls!

  • i wuld've loved in this time just for the music

  • Ha this is a sweet song to smoke res to.

Do you believe in magic [hoots]? lol

    Gross.

  • i love this song <33 i think its much better than aly && aj's version, but thats just my opinion. it reminds me of the parent trap (:

  • Zally... Ramones + sweetness.

  • so carefree...man...I would have loved to have lived in these times.

  • damn!!!! me too!!! if i had a wish sure i ask for living those days...! just happynnes and music...well and drugs and sex thats nice too hehehehe :) just freedom!

  • someone really gave you a thumbs down...who gives a thumbs down to freedom?...FUCK NIXON!
