He bought an traditional french song which talked about daily usual concerns and suffers of a man to a completely different song which states a man near death which makes a reflexion of his own life, regrets and accomplishments. He re-writed a song. It's not translating. You just wash way his glory of writing an epic inspiring song saying "translate". It's much more than that. Think about that!

He translated it. It was an existing song. He might have tweaked the arrangement. But he did not re-swrite the song as you have blindly stated.

@Anaconda43VR No way. Use any translating device over Google if you can't understand french over the original lyrics. You'll see that "Comme d'habitude" has completely different lyrics than "My Way". He didn't create the melody, but he DID composed the lyrics. It's completely different from the original french one. In fact, he didn't even composed it for himself, he did it deliberately for Sinatra, as he chose some phrases based on Sinatra's common vocabulary. He has stated that on interviews.

@Anaconda43VR Not offended. I just disagree. I really don't think he just translated a song, as you stated. I think much more of it than a plain translation. I consider it a complete new version. Not that it's something OMFG but still is a great job. What makes this song so special is not itself, but what each person feels by listening to it.

Paul Anka is canadian, but many people don't know that he's originally lebanese (from Lebanon), and Tony Anka one of his cousins' son, is one of the best Percussionist (derbakkeh, tabla) in Lebanon; as well he is the private percussionist of the great arabic/lebanese singer Najwa Karam.

Tony is a very good friend of mine... and what i want to say is that the Ankas have music in their blood, and are a big family in Lebanon.

Darling, aren't you a bit weary of performing My Way. Truly it is one of the very best melodies ever composed. But still the lyrics remain mostly the same, the arrangement never changes.

Love Paul, your music raised me from the 1960's in turn I raised my daughter the same way. Except we attended your concerts together.
