Somehow most people believe it originated there were once it mutated in a bat population b/c they roost so closely together and have bacteria and the dripping water from the cave and whatever's in there. The bats will scratch at each other, bite, and then bat falls in barn, bites cow, coyote eats dead cow, fights with dog or fox and then the fox fights with the feral cat. Sometimes it goes bat-cow-coyote/fox-raccoon/badger-dog/cat.
They're supposed to run like hell when a human approaches. It must be sick for sure! It is leaving but too slowly for a normal fox. I know that you have your carriers of the rabies virus and then you have those that are infected. Funny thing, not all carriers will actually have the rabies virus itself, it could be lying dormate waiting to be spread to another where infection starts to take place. No one knows where it came from, but I say bats b/c they are filthy.
