We should stay longer--unless our budget can't handle our remaining in. We should not hand a moral victory to the Taliban. Further, there are valuable mines in Afghanistan. If the Taliban take control, they can gain control as well of the mines and use profit from that to finance terrorism.
Obama came out of nowhere in Illinois to become President of the most powerful nation on our planet. Now he destroys our native language (English) every time he speaks. I wish Trump would have asked for more than his birth-certificate . . . like his G.E.D. Obama is a DISGRACE to our nation's struggling educational system. He should be prevented from speaking to citizens of America until he learns the proper usage of what he calls his "native" language.
I think Mccain is simply discussing sound strategy. You can't publicly reveal everything that you're doing. That is not to say that I approve of this war or that we should stay even longer (yikes), but you can't tell them everything that you are going to do.
The way wars are fought, you have to estimate how determined your enemy is and outlast their breaking point. Hitler poured everything he had against the Russians, waiting and waiting for the breaking point that never came.
I'm old-school conservative (not this neo-con bullshit the Repubs spew now) and I love John McCain. Cool guy.
My question is, why is the US sending more troops as opposed to Special Ops to catch bin Laden? He's one fucking guy! And Al Quaida isn't that strong in Afghanistan.
I've been thinking about tis and it just seems there was no point of the Afghanistan War in the first place. There were a few of these people in that country and the world sent a fucking army. If anything NATO lost because the showed how confused they are. The created a world wide drug problem and destabilized a country. Let's face it women's rights is a side show they could be putting the squeeze on many other countries if it was really an issue.
Bush and company wanted the war in Afghanistan to get UNOCAL's pipeline that they weren't able to get built before the war. on Dec 27, 2002 after the Taliban were kicked out guess what got signed ? yep..the pipeline contracts
because they cant have someone come in and actually change their plans. The whole idea that any of these people in power on both sides of the aisle want to help the american people in any way is an absolute joke. They are playing us like a finely tuned violin and we keep squabbling over political games that they have rigged. Biggest scam in the woooorld. Ron Paul was the best choice but I really wouldnt trust too many politicians especially after they have tasted real power.
LOL! Of course not! America went to war in Afganistan for very good reasons. To get Osama bin Laden. Why the hell they're still there, I've got NO idea.
My comment about the gas pipeline, was simply to point out that Afganistan is not a country which lacks ANY resources,
I usually agree with Young Turks 110%, but on this one, I think they're a little inconsistent. Wasn't Cenk talking in a video not long ago about how Bush ignoring Afghanistan and letting it go to rot one of the worst mistakes of his presidency?
They should've hit McCain on what it means by "success". What is success? When all the Talibs dead? Impossible. When all drugs eradicated? Good luck. When Karzai govt gets its act together? The money that is pouring into Afghan is one of major corrupting factors. Hit him on what it means by success and see him trip. Cenk is right here.
Except with Batman, at least there is less crime because of HIS war. The War on Terrorism, as currently structured, is a powerful recruiting tool for terrorists.
All this talk about staying in Iraq...blah. Has there been any updates on Osama Bin Laden? Of course not, theyre not even looking for the guy that orchestrated the terrorists attacks, ironically the reason they are even in Iraq!!! HOW IRONIC IS THAT, WOW!!!! Its all a sham, 9/11 was a Illuminati plot to stray americans to focus on terrorists, rather than gradually becoming more concious about conspiracies and suspicions of the New World Order.
Wow, he really did want to stay there 100 years!! There should a draft for all Republican members & Halliburton/KBR CEOs sons and daughters - we see how open ended they'll be then!
Not sure if it was TYT, but someone suggested imposing a "war tax" to account for all war spending and make it a progressive tax meaning rich people pay most of it. The war would stop immediately.
Actually, HTWW is not right about his assessment of postwar Germany.
While the Allies had a problem with insurgents, known as "werewolves", the problem with the insurgents did not last nearly as long, because the werewolves did not have any logistical or financial support, like the Iraqi and Afghan insurgents do.And they did not last for, how long has it been now, 6 or 7 years?
There were not nearly as many saboteurs (warewolves, they called themselves) as there are insurgents in Iraq.
Germany was economically destroyed. Few wanted to keep fighting for the Nazi regime, and without any financial support, most of the Werewolves could not continue the fight, and either surrendered or fled to Uruguay or Argentina.Whereas the Afghan and Iraqi insurgents have a large amount of support, both financial and logistical, from heroin trafficking and Saudi Wahabbi extremists.
these arguments aren't particularly strong... sure mccain was wrong about us being done in Afghanistan in the past, but that in no way affects the current situation. Mccain was arguing that you have to mostly finish the job before you can start preparing to clean up. He wasn't saying that we should be there forever
You don't pay a construction worker to get a day's worth of work done and then quit, you pay him to finish the job. Thats mccain's point.
1.) i simply don't want people calling me a close minded republican twat or something because i am not one (you'll generally find an awful lot of republican bashers on this channel)
2.) I'm not saying i agree with Mccain, or the war for that matter, i was simply explaining why Cenk made no viable argument against him.
That's because Republicans and Democrats are both owned by the same war corporations. Afghanistan is nothing more than a testing ground for billion-dollar weapons systems. There are no concrete objectives, no conditions for victory, and no end in sight.
Uhh, he said they would be home by 2011. You can't just simply bring EVERY single soldier home right away. It takes a lot of time to pack up and ship equipment and things like that. And if everyone leaves at the same time, you're going to undo everything that was done because the Taliban are just going to come back to the area.
I'm all for bringing the troops home now, but you just don't understand how things works.
he stated the other night that he will bring all combat units home from iraq by the end of next summer and the rest of the troops home by the end of 2011
we need to maintain a permanent military presence in iraq and afghanistan for a potential invasion of iran, and to protect israel from the other violent barbaric nations in the region, what obama wants is to tell the thousands of dead US soldiers who brought freedom to the arabs that their sacrifices were meaningless, we dont care about them, and were glad they lost so the liberals could brag. take the republican model, dont play politics with war, support the troops
McCain is just another idealist who is a perfect portrayal of the type of man who's a part of our military. Why doesn't he go on to say the seven principles of the military to discredit the credibility of his philosophy even further?
Looking at history: December 2nd 1979- Soviet Union prepares for war vs. Afghanistan. 9 years later the Soviet Union decides Afghanistan is a lost cause and themselves suffered 30,000 wounded troops and 13,000 casualties. Since then the middle east has fought with eachother and still nobody has won and nobody will. The US is no exception and to me its just a pride issue that america can't admit it was duped into going over there and stupid to stay for so long.
It's no great revelation that McCain has been a consistent warmonger, but at least people know what to expect from him. Obama has no real intention of pulling troops from Afghanistan at certain date, and he will very likely expand the war into Pakistan.
The only point of this vid is to make liberal hypocrites feel better by attacking McCain and avoiding any substantive criticism of Obama.
If you look at John McCain's actually military record, you will see that it was not distinguished at all. As a matter of fact he was brash and reckless, especially as a pilot. His only claim to fame is being a POW. Whoope Doo!
This man has no more credibility on being a credible military than Donald Rumsfeld or Karl Rove.
Republicans are bitter old bitches. You know they all 100% support this Afghan policy but they are picking at it due to pure bitchiness and cuntiness.
This is how the war should have been waged in the first place, WW2 style. Nothing short of unconditional and total surrender from both the regime in place and the population.
Todays surgical wars are not efficient in bending the will to fight of a bunch of Muslim extremist. The Japanese thought their leader was a fucking god, they still surrendered, all it took was daily firebombing and 2 A-bomb.
We should have bombed Iraqi and Afghan cities for weeks. Killing enough civilians so it is engraved in their mind for the rest of their life that fucking with NATO is bad.
The complaint about not wanting to set dates... ok, I can see why it bugs Cenk, but it's a fairminded opinion to have, and it makes logical sense. TYT SHOULD be covering Beck's opinion about not listening to the generals, and how the president needs to quit acting like the Commander in Chief. That's far more entertaining. Beck just makes it so obvious that he doesn't believe what he says, he simply wants to undermine the Left no matter how or why, because that's what his audience wants.
McCain who is one of my senators is an idiot.... I'm retired USAF and been to war just like him and I can't believe that he wants more of our brave men and women to die.... we in Arizona need to vote him and his counter part Kyle out they don't care at all for the people just their pockets...
if anything, people of America(those who are for this war) and politicians who send the young boys and girls to their deaths, should be fucking ashamed, because in the end, USA will leave Afghanistan in defeat and many people will lose their lives for nothing, just because some politicians in Washington with small dicks want to prove something . like i said, they should be ashamed, and in the end they will be when history will judge them
Nobody elected John McCain President the only action we should look at is what Obama does and btw John McCain agrees with that action in essence, so just shut up, Mr McCain.
one think i don't get is that the USA rely on the help from god damn Pakistan, the country that financed the Bombay act last year that killed around 200 innocent people, for no reason what so ever, and still is financing other terror groups that kill us troops in Afghanistan. so USA gibes money to Pakistan, Pakistan gives to Taliban and Taliban kill us troops. USA should withdraw on only use special forces on the ground, pick their fights and use air force to the maximum, drones and a-10
A lot of Americans feel the same way, but U.S. presidents don't base their military decisions and expenditures on civilian polls. 1/2 the country is for it and 1/2 the country is against it, but in reality theirs nothing we can do about it. :(
What does McCain mean we succeeded in Iraq then they asked us to leave? Does he mean mission accomplished in 2003? We did not succeed because that was before we caught Saddam. They asked us to leave in 2004 so if we succeeded in 2003 why were we still there you fucking moron McCain
I think McCain just broke the world record for blinking! anyone get an accurate count? i counted 117 blinks, that is not counting the split screen when she was asking McCain questions! 5 stars for breaking the guinness book of world records for blinking. almost made me dizzy watching him blink. does he need eye glasses?
You can tell... he's taking directly from the talking points. He doesn't really believe in it, but if he doesn't say it, he knows he won't have a damn job.
Do these guys know that having permanent bases in the Middle East (namely Saudi Arabia before we left there) is part of the reason that we got attack on 9/11?
Know how I know that? Cause that's what fucking Osama Bin Laden said!!
The goal of American imperialism has ALWAYS been to have permanent military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan. These wars aren't about fighting terrorism, they're about securing geo-strategic and economic dominance over the vast oil reserves in the middle-east. The US capitalist class wants to make sure Russia and China don't control the flow of oil.
Democrats and Republicans are both in favour of this imperial project just as surely as Nero and Caligula shared the goal of Roman imperialism.
John McCain is TRULY Sarah Palin's DICKLESS and BALLESS BITCH and PUSSY! Palin is a SUPERIOR politician and statesman than McCain could ever be. She will be a SUPERIOR POTUS than McCain could have been and run a SUPERIOR campaign that will PWN Obambi! John wears the skirt in the McCain family while Carol and Cindy wear the pants! Even Meghan and Bridget are MORE MAN than he is!
Did John MF'ing McCain just shit on the result of the surge in Iraq by saying Karzai's gov in Afghanistan is stronger than Malaki's gov in Iraq even years after the "good" surge ?
So ... if the surge in Iraq didn't work why did McCain wet his Depends about it during the last campaign ?
I think he tried a little too hard to appeal to the conservative base. McCain still seems pretty moderate to me but he just had one of the worst campaigns I've ever seen.
these republicans fucking LOVE war its funny that a party that's so pro life is also for the killing of their soldiers and the Iraq civilians but since the civilians aren't the good ole American christian this old bastard probably doesn't give a damn
My god man, could you imagine having this guy as a President. John McCain needs to sit his ass down. He's run his coarse as a public figure. He's way too incompetent now!
Yeah, had McCain won, U.S. would have probably gone to war with Iran while everyone back in America would have been broke, I'm talking MC Hammer broke.
The republicans keep rambling on about "winning" in Afghanistan. When you ask them what does "win" mean they look at you the same way a dog looks at a washing machine.
Get it through your heads: YOU CANNOT "WIN". There is no "winning" to be done. It's not a goddamned game of checkers, it's a war. And a pointless war at that, against an uncertain enemy in impossible-to-hold terrain.
Historians don't call Afghanistan "the graveyard of empires" just to make it sound flashy!
McCain is a dolt on foreign policy, just like he is on every other kind of policy. He gets a pass because he was a POW, but he is scary ignorant and shallow on foreign affairs. His singing Bomb Iran sums the guy up, that wasn't just a joke, that's about how deep McCain is.
just caz he is so fucking old if i had the death note he would be one of the first people i kill since it wouldnt be thought of as a murder i could easily kill him with anything even a heart attack and no1 would notice pricks like him shouldnt be allowed to have any part in what the country does caz all he wants to do is destroy it so i say he should be destroyed and c how he likes that
well if he left congress i would be fine with that but it seems to me he wont leave unless he dies so i say death to him i just want him to shut the fuck up and the way to get him to never talk again is with death and mccain did kill people he is a vet so that point u would also be wrong on but i no what u r trying to say but i want to make it more clear i no if i had a death note i would use it on all republicans in congress and lieberman
I'm not saying I disagree with Cenk's conclusion, just his logic. I see nothing illogical with McCain's position that we should withdraw based upon how much headway we're making rather than arbitrarily creating a timetable, thereby giving the enemy forces a date to shoot for. However, if we do take a "success" approach, it's imperitive that were quantify those successes in some form. If we don't, THAT'S when it becomes a 100 year war.
McCain graduated 5th from the bottom of his class- crashed 5 jets and spent his time in Vietnam smoking cigarettes in a hut for a few years. McCain is a gigantic pussy coward with his hand on the eject button.
McCain is Obama's good luck charm. Everything he uses to attack Obama turns out to the the complete opposite. The fundamentals of the economy are strong. Iraq does not need a withrawl date. We could be there for a 1000 years we will win in 2013. It's a mess with him. Just let the guy who won do his job now he is trying to save imself from the ultimate embarassment which is losing his seat right after being the nominee for President.
Five plane crashes. But only three were his fault. Well, that last one, he got shot down, and probably could have avoided it, so that makes only three and a half his fault.
But you can't be the at fault pilot in three plane crashes and still be allowed to pilot a plane...
We should stay longer--unless our budget can't handle our remaining in. We should not hand a moral victory to the Taliban. Further, there are valuable mines in Afghanistan. If the Taliban take control, they can gain control as well of the mines and use profit from that to finance terrorism.

Beck just makes it so obvious that he doesn't believe what he says, he simply wants to undermine the Left no matter how or why, because that's what his audience wants.
dEdGrimley 2 years ago 2
McCain who is one of my senators is an idiot.... I'm retired USAF and been to war just like him and I can't believe that he wants more of our brave men and women to die.... we in Arizona need to vote him and his counter part Kyle out they don't care at all for the people just their pockets...

if anything, people of America(those who are for this war) and politicians who send the young boys and girls to their deaths, should be fucking ashamed, because in the end, USA will leave Afghanistan in defeat and many people will lose their lives for nothing, just because some politicians in Washington with small dicks want to prove something . like i said, they should be ashamed, and in the end they will be when history will judge them

one think i don't get is that the USA rely on the help from god damn Pakistan, the country that financed the Bombay act last year that killed around 200 innocent people, for no reason what so ever, and still is financing other terror groups that kill us troops in Afghanistan. so USA gibes money to Pakistan, Pakistan gives to Taliban and Taliban kill us troops. USA should withdraw on only use special forces on the ground, pick their fights and use air force to the maximum, drones and a-10
nela04 2 years ago
A lot of Americans feel the same way, but U.S. presidents don't base their military decisions and expenditures on civilian polls. 1/2 the country is for it and 1/2 the country is against it, but in reality theirs nothing we can do about it. :(
edster2003 2 years ago
What does McCain mean we succeeded in Iraq then they asked us to leave? Does he mean mission accomplished in 2003? We did not succeed because that was before we caught Saddam. They asked us to leave in 2004 so if we succeeded in 2003 why were we still there you fucking moron McCain

The only version of success that would warrant withdraw is if Afghanistan becomes the 51st state.
No matter what we do, Afghanistan will NEVER cease being a threat to the US, either through terrorism, or heroin production.
I think 18 month on top of 8 years is enough to make the argument that we did all we could do.

I actually agree with McCain. If you're sending more troops you can't say you're gonna pull them out in a year. Will never happen.
OriginalBeast 2 years ago
The goal of American imperialism has ALWAYS been to have permanent military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan. These wars aren't about fighting terrorism, they're about securing geo-strategic and economic dominance over the vast oil reserves in the middle-east. The US capitalist class wants to make sure Russia and China don't control the flow of oil.
Democrats and Republicans are both in favour of this imperial project just as surely as Nero and Caligula shared the goal of Roman imperialism.

Historians don't call Afghanistan "the graveyard of empires" just to make it sound flashy!

kazooga1234 2 years ago
American people will get use to it like before in the case of other countries.
US should not leave Iraq or Afghanistan, and sure it won't. The question is you want to secure US's interest in the region or not?
If you do, then you can't leave at least until other threats rectified.
Iran and atomic pakistan which is a step away from a islamic revolution.
The day after US leaves Iraq there would be chaos and civil war unless US put a dictator like Saddam in place! That's irony though.

Unless you are the son of an admiral.
