  • He was a king of funk man.

  • SKINNY SWEATY MAAAAAN IIIIIN A GREEN SUIT!

  • Creo que este chico hubiera hecho historia en el mundo musical si no hubiese muerto.

  • The two things I'm most interested in from this video are his shoes, and that guitar...

  • was he before John frusciante?

  • @achmedda3rd Yep, look up "Mother's Milk" on wikipedia for more info on that. :)

  • gnarly bro

  • Hillel was such a cool guy. RIP.

  • Hillel made history with four fucking pedals, and now kids cry for not having top notch shit. Btw those who know Hillel love him, but many kids became a fan after californication. There are no two similar rhcp albums, each marks an era. Many rhcp "fans" doesn't even know the song out in LA, buckle down, or yertle the turtle. John isn't better or worse than Hillel, he's different. We don't know what would happen if Hillel stays alive, probably they wouldn't exist as a band. Changes of times, and

  • @letterbekmen you dont call it fans cuz they dont know all the songs of rhcp ? and whats the problem if i become fan after californication it is wrong ?

  • @letterbekmen I'm just saying, I'm a fan and I was born after Freaky Stylie and Uplift Mofo and Freaky was the first chilis record I listened to, so you know, we're not all that bad.

  • Am I the only one that gets a little saddened by him saying "You're doing an interview? Without me?" at the end of the video? I don't know why, but it always makes me feel a little sad.

  • @JADsGames me too, especially because he stutters a bit

  • I dont know why, but I hate people who ar 'fan' of the rhcp. AND DON'T EVEN KNOW HILLEL.

  • Oh, you're doing an interview? Without me??? R.I.P., skinny, sweaty man Hillel Slovak.

  • hillel got the style and john got the style. they are both different but i love them equally.

  • Every next guitar player in RHCP gets shittier and shittier

  • @SlavaGen dumbest comment I have ever read...

  • hes the smartest person ever reached this planet !

  • its a shame john never got to meet hillel and jam...

  • @meakins8 he did. He was one of hillel's biggest fans, and I rember seeing john quote him in an interview. I don't know whether they jammed though.

  • you have posted only one video, but one fucking great video man!

  • Legendary , but i must say that "blood , sugar , sex , magig" was very great and i think john frusciante makes a great job too .

here we can hear at the beginning a very nice melodic/funky piece of hilel , yes he was a great player , and without him the sound of the early chilis would be another

  • I love the way he's not taking himself seriously in ANY way here but he's still playing awesome! Deffinately Hendrix-ey but such a great distinct sound :)

  • Hillel lives through the music

  • i love hillel man. I can play most of his songs. You gotta give credit to him as he was a huge influence on johns style. But Hillel and John are probably my biggest influences on the guitar, in that order.

  • Where can I get boots like that!

  • No reason in particular, but for some reason hahaha

  • its sad that when people think about rhcp guitarist they only think about john

  • priceless! :D

  • Comment removed

  • He sounds like white Hendrix to me:D

  • the dude was incredible, and the fact that he taught flea how to play bass just makes him all the more amazing. his death is just proof that anything can happen with drugs.

  • I mean John knew how to play already, but he taught John a lot of things that I would say without a doubt help John become the what....greatest guitarist of the last 30 years.....

John loved the guy, it is a sin to compare them.

Oh yeah, and Slovak taught Flea the bass too

  • Slim a.k.a. Hillel Slovak, the man who started The Red Hot Chili Peppers

Yeah maybe he's not in most peoples "classic line up" of the band, but thats because he was in the ORIGINAL line up and, tragically, died way too soon to have enjoyed the fame the band has now.

And let me put a cease to the argument over comparing Slovak and Frusciante.

Most people think Hendrix was John Fru's only idol...WRONG. Slovak was a huge inspiration to John, he was like John's modern hero.

    He also taught John

  • @MusicalRelease are you sure john and hillel ever met? Sounds odd to me...

  • @Smokeurmum Well honestly, I don't. Its what I read, like how I read Hillel taught Flea to play bass than Flea just went crazy awesome from there.

  • @MusicalRelease ok no problem bro!I didn't want to sound like an arrogant douche. Peace :)

  • for what Frusciante had in chops and talent; Hillel had vision, style and uniqueness in spades. its wrong to compare the 2 guitarists, much less pitt them against each other; I mean c'mon! Hillel was part A and John was part B. both were/are glorious guitarists and its almost offensive to say one is better than the other. they're part of the RHC family. bless them both

  • such a puppy. he seems so very nice.

  • i wish i grew up when he was playing. he seems like such a cool dude.

And its hard to beleive 5? guitar eras laters, its still the same band.

  • very talented guy

  • R.I.P.

love how he matches his playing with his facial expressions,

    one of the most underrated

  • Frusciante idolazed this dude! xD

  • This my wah-wah :-)

  • Hillel was the best and most innovative player to come out in the 80s, in my opinion at least

  • the start sends chills down my spine!

  • Where is the rest of this footage?

  • Turns out that RHCP had a guitarist before John.

  • i read scar tissue, and damn near cried when i read that he died.. i mean i really cried because his situation saddens me, since i do drugs too but not heroin.

  • lol his voice sound like frank zappas here

  • Aside from the massive drug problem he did seem to be the most mature Chili Pepper. Didn't Anthony say something about that in Scar Tissue?

  • imagine if he was still here

  • @TheLoveRascals The Chili Peppers would have been the same as they were at this time.

  • You guys know that he taught Flea to play bass? right?

  • @highblink exactly why the chili's wouldn't exist without Hillel

  • @highblink yes we also read ak's autobio. no need to be a cocky cunt

  • @highblink He did not...

  • @TrevaWhateva Yes he did.

  • @Secto29 Thats awesome

  • @TrevaWhateva indeed :)

  • @highblink you can read wikipedia very well

  • was it a maple or rosewood fingerboard?

  • @meljonlove rosewood

  • Me being a Jewish guitar player, he's an idol of mine.

  • "Without me?! " <3

  • last words he said on the vid, it's what he's now saying all the way from heaven. or hell who nows.

  • i pay tribute to hillel but without his death, the chilis would have probably never gotten where they are now and gotten all the inspiration for their hit songs

  • yesterday was the anniversary...RIP Slim

  • i love that john f and hillel played alike but john sounds so diffrent when he talks

  • mmm it has the tune of funky monks at the first shot

  • tha fuzz is insane

  • "Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem"

  • woulda been a fucking genius...

  • lol that fukin kike

  • Hillel has a cool voice!

  • yea hillel really good

  • John may be good, but not great. He doesn't capture RHCP's "vibe" and never really has. Hillel played with all his heart and soul. I thyink i like his guitar work on Uplift the best, it was really bluesy and rock-y and cool.

  • @cannibalonXthedead what?! RHCP recorded their best material with John

  • @fede018

    Wrong.

  • @cannibalonXthedead Of course he does. You can say it's your opinion that you like Hillel more than John, but you cant deny that John totally fits in the Chili Peppers, he played and still plays with more soul than any guitarist alive, he's a great artist. I even go further and say that his guitar playing on BSSM is the best I've heard since Physical Graffiti.

  • @cannibalonXthedead well he was RHCP's vibe and then he died...

the frusciante rocked the shit outta everything in his way.

  • @cannibalonXthedead I think that's a matter of opinion. In my opinion Frusciante was a much more innovative guitarist and he invented much more complex riffs - even if Hillel was one of his inspirations.

  • @cannibalonXthedead He may not have captured the original vibe that the peppers had back in the 80s, but over the years he definitely helped formulate a new vibe that they were all able to embody. Bands constantly evolve. I think it's kind of unfair to say that john isn't a great guitars because he never captured the sound of the chili peppers ex guitarist who died in '89. No one expected him to be a carbon copy of Hillel.

  • @DefyingNoodles I agree completely, It's the same thing with josh now. I personally like the new album and josh's guitar style. But I do miss john.

  • @cannibalonXthedead so you're saying John doesn't play with his soul? Man, the RHCP have changed through all these years, it's obvious that John doesn't play the same way Hillel did, but you can't say he doesn't put his heart and soul on it.

  • @cannibalonXthedead i dont really agree, i think both are insane guitarists, just different styles.

  • @cannibalonXthedead I agree that John didn't capture the true vibe of the chili peppers but you must be able to realise how fucking amazing he is knock me down, under the bridge, and snow are masterpieces and for me john is the best guitarist since hedrix.

  • God i love that fuckin superfuzz sound!,

  • Hillel died way earlier than he should have... :(

  • i wear my star of david with pride, RIP hillel love

  • i love you hillel

  • worm food heheee

  • Why am I addicted to this video? fuck i love hillel so much

  • @gustavooww18 Same here! Wish there were more vids of him.

  • Fucking love his face at 0:35 when he plays blackeyed blonde. - in the ZONE!

  • John Frusciante is probably my fav guitarist of all time but if Hillel was still around i reckon he could give even him a run for his money.

    R.I.P

  • He was sooo cool

  • He is actually playing a late 60s stratocaster not a 70s, you can tell because it has an all maple neck without the rosewood strip the 60s was the only time they didn't have that and the 68 and 69 strats had the large headstocks just fyi

  • @StainIessChina

Sorry i was wrong 66 was when they started making large headstock strats, but that definitely is a 60s strat not a 70s

  • hilel slovak wouldve been such an AMAZING git player if he were alive today. woulda written some crazy shit

  • "oh you're doing an interview? wi-wi-without mee??" the king (L)

    Rip in peace hillel (L)

  • my name is bruno, ist im gonna wear the suit made entirely of velcro... nonetheless a fukn superstar

  • in my room im all alone, waiting for you to get home, i listen to roberta flack, but i know you wont come back

  • always come back to this one for slovak facial expressions

    what a dude

  • he looks like bruno

  • What does he say from 0:19 to 0:25

    Rest in Peace Hillel

  • @Luk93t "i try to stay away from advanced stuff for some reason, no reason in particular but for some reason"

  • @imstoned6

thanks, and what does the "see" after that mean?

  • @Luk93t think he's saying like "you understand?", see?

  • cool!

  • Slovak is my favorite, I love his style.

    It doesn't rust.

  • long live slovac....what a legend hey.....his memory will live on forever thanx to his brothers the rhcp

  • @CyrLiam certificate of authenticity, its to guarantee its real

  • i love the head movements in the begining!

  • Hillel, you are the reason for all the success that the peppers have had. Without you, none of this would have happened. RIP

  • Rest in peace we love you

  • It's a goddamned fucking shame that he's dead.

  • he is awesome

  • that chorus is awesome!

  • 4 people suck balls and eat shit

  • tossico di merda!

  • Hillel Slovak is with Bon Scott, Jimi Hendrix, Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley, & Jaco Pastorius

  • where is the rest of this clip?

  • i just had to share this...

  • i just had to share this...

  • fucking amazing.

  • @sylicone221 Fuck you, you limped dick insignificant bastard. You will rot in Hell and I feel nothing but hatred toward you.

  • @sylicone221 wow, ur a dick, i dont think ANYBODY'S gonna care when YOU die

  • @sylicone221 o...k.. dude, because YOU never heard of him before reading anthony;s book, that means he's a nobody, sure, if you're gonna be stupid like that, at least have respect for the dead

  • @tsadavid4205000 loser junkie hehehehee.....hehehehee.....good riddance, john cleaned up at least heheheee

  • @sylicone221 you're an asshole

  • @sylicone221

new comer to the peppers right? Did you know one of frusciante's idols groeing up was Hillel?

Shut up before the diarrhea of your words kills you

  • @forshigity5000 really? didnt know that, but john is clean now and didnt od....heheheee

  • @tsadavid4205000 if that guy is a nobody you're even less tha air.

Hillel was one of the most influental guitarists in the 88's

The stuff that the chilis were playing at that time was just to funk to get radioplay on white radio, that's why they never made it huge until they satred to write more radiofriendly stuff.

  • @elknutsch dude, i was the one defending hillel, that other bitch was talkin shit, read the comments right next time, im a rhcp fan n im fully aware of how funky they were back in the day so dont try talkin down to me about it

  • Such a shame that he had to die.

  • Imagine how much good music Hillel and the Chili Peppers could have made were he still with us. Rest in Peace, Bro.

  • @dharmaseed maybe theres a reason why he died, like the universe knew that if he stayed, then all of earth would be destroyed from the badassery and funkocracy that this man would create. maybe we don't desserve that much awesome?

  • @FUZZYSHAM333 Maybe we don't, but we'll never know, now. Better the earth be destroyed in a combination of funkocracy and awesomeness that this man could have brought, than wankery and mediocrity.

  • Fuckin' speedballs...

  • @ThaWhiteMaori did he od from speedballing or heroin alone heheheee

  • @sylicone221 Speedballing. And what the fuck is with your comment about him being "worm food"? I can understand you find humour in pissing off pretty much the whole world by saying that, but that's just pathetic. And you're going to read this comment and think to yourself "oh good, I've pissed off this guy pretty well, that makes me feel good" but you don't realise that I've sent a fucking shitload of Karma your way. Remember this comment when you're dying painfully and slowly under a car.

  • I was punched in the face with sound at about 0:44 or so. I want that pedal, so i can do the same to others. RIP Hillel, one of the most unsung guitar-heroes of our time.

  • HILLEL, YOU ARE THE MAN. John, Jack, Dave etc, thankyou for honouring Hillel's name.

  • i like that he only had 4 pedals, john was used like 300

  • @madspoonful not during mothers milk. he only used three.

  • @WhiteBoyIsAwesome ino but later on he really started using them

  • I appreciate his explanations of his eq.
