I blame congress and environmentalists for this catastrophe. This would have never been an issue if oil companies had been allowed to drill on the coast and in shallow water, instead of drilling in water that is a mile or more deep. It is obviously easier to make repairs in shallow water or on land, than in deep, deep water. There are too many restrictions on the oil companies. Let them drill in shallow water, congress.

BP controls every aspect of the spill recovery efforts from cleaning marshes to cleaning birds. Tristate Bird Rescue and IBRRC - the two agencies tasked with bird rescue and recovery - are hired by -and worked directly for- BP. I have been told by reliable sources that some people bringing in oiled birds were turned away because they did not go through proper channels.

I actually saw a reporter on tv the other day in a little boat pointing at birds that weren't able to move. I was like, "Get the effin bird! Stop talking and grab it!" A bird was literally a few inches away. He better had gotten that bird when they were done!

These kind of videos are used to show the birds plight and to spread empathy. There are a lot of people working to save these birds that might not have volunteered if it were not for videos like this. As far as we know, the people who filmed this are one of the volunteers, but of course as soon as you post anything on youtube with an animal in it, you are going to get all the obnoxious morons posting "ANIMAL CRUELTY!" despite the content or the purpose.

Absolutely true. I was there for 2 weeks as a paraprofessional, and was not allowed to touch a bird despite all my efforts. BP controls every aspect of the spill recovery efforts from cleaning marshes to cleaning birds. Tristate Bird Rescue and IBRRC - the two agencies tasked with bird rescue and recovery - are hired by -and worked directly for- BP. I have been told by reliable sources that some people bringing in oiled birds were turned away because they did not go through proper channels.

I actually saw a reporter on tv the other day in a little boat pointing at birds that weren't able to move. I was like, "Get the effin bird! Stop talking and grab it!" A bird was literally a few inches away. He better had gotten that bird when they were done!

the same vid is on msnbc with L.A. Governor standing beside the bird. He couldn't touch it either because the biologist said that the birds in distress shouldn't be handled by anyone untrained to. The camera men were just doing their job by showing the world the horrible mess.

BP doesnt give a damn about shutting off the oil, they want to save oil production from the gushing well. everything they have done to date was to attempt to save production meanwhile millions of gallons of oil kill the gulf. All you gotta do is crimp off the pipe in 3 places and roll it like a tube of toothpaste... problem solved. BP= greedy bloodthirsty vampires. Throw them out of the USA.

I wonder if the camera crew took these unfortunate birds to the some sort of rescue pace after they were done filming them. I really HOPE they did. Its sad that even after having technologies to came up with smarter transportation means these giant corporations keep killing mother earth for the monetary benefit. This whole oil spill or leak whatever u want to call is obviously tragic and should have been prevented. These kind of videos are used to show the birds plight and to spread empathy. There are a lot of people working to save these birds that might not have volunteered if it were not for videos like this. As far as we know, the people who filmed this are one of the volunteers, but of course as soon as you post anything on youtube with an animal in it, you are going to get all the obnoxious morons posting "ANIMAL CRUELTY!" despite the content or the purpose.
