This is definitely no board game, it even has no battlegrid. This is RPG at its finest! Sure, it has a different approach and therefore it gets a lot of flak from people who want to play the same game over and over again. this system is solid, it's fast and it is deep. We got roleplay results out of this that i didn't think were possible. I'm grateful someone pumped some fresh and working new ideas into RPGs.
Pitty they try to turn it all into D&D big hero types adventures >.> I loved WH for the fact you started as a total shit lowest on the ladder and had to climb up good and long through local chain, and then wander out the empire borders and do heroic deeds as you are big and tough... here it seems kinda oposite. Personally the idea of Empire being once again attacked on every side I find bit boring and overused... I damn waited for Empire to strike back finally and lounch campaigns against all
High Elves aren't an "Old World race", so right from the get go you got it wrong. I'll trade a classic Old World halfling for a High Elf every day, not because I hate High Elves, but because I like them. You run in all sorts of problems which will have to be justified every time, and they will always feel out of place. How the hell you will justify a High Elf becoming a Sword Master of Hoeth in the middle of the Empire... in about half of all the adventuring groups?
And if you want to differentiate, High Elves are so diverse you would have to make a separate book just for them. They have eleven different kingdoms, with different cultures and different mentality.
What if I want to play a High Elf from Avelorn? They have more in common with Old World elves, than with their brethren for examle from Caledor. I think it's just wrong what you did there.
The new WFRP 3rd Edition is an absolut desaster - a nice, high quality boardgame with even more means to draw money from players than Wizards of the Coast when you think of cards and counters. Let's hope they correct this error fast and deliver a RPG instead of this nonsense. I'll stick to my 2nd Edtion.
@spookiebernd I disagree but if you want to stick to 2nd edition, be welcome. I liked 2nd edition but I like 3rd more. It's absolutely 100% a roleplaying game. A beautifully designed roleplaying game with lots of tokens and cards, yes, but not a boardgame by any means. I prefer the symbolic dice mechanic for its openness and originality and I prefer cards over lists in books. So as far as I'm concerned, this is not an error at all.
Yea Viktor. Well the beauty about roleplay is that we don't have to buy the latest edition of this or the revised rules on that. Roleplay is an act of escapism where the most important factor is your imagination. As long as you have this you are 99% ready to rock and roll. Sorry to go on but the point Im trying to make is these companies forget all this and instead rely on the customer being dependant on supplements etc. All we need is a good GM/Dm and imagination!
There's no reason for them not to make a new game, however, with their style. You don't have to buy their product. But for those of us who want to, its nice.

This is disgusting..."you will notice there are no halflings...they will be introduced later". This stinks to me of making money through expansions etc. The character and soul has been stripped from WFRP by this company and this idiot in particular giving a speech as if he were marketing a computer game. It's all about money....Games Workshop have went down the same route. The hobby is immaterial to them now. Making money is now the only intention!!
wow....i got flamed for saying that my group is NO LONGER PLAYING DnD FOR WFRP V3!!!!!!!!!!!!!! goodness i never said it was DnD and im glad its not.....gosh! people like you that flame cuz they dont understand something dont need to be online at all
The only reason this game uses so many new dice, cards and other fluff that will detract from actual roleplaying, is to make it impossible to pirate, unlike pdfs. This is a the sole reason for this new edition. Dumbed down, cynical exercise in marketing. Sad day for real, non online rpgers. Grab 2nd Ed while you can.
Some "new" things are actually aspects that existed in first edition as well. It seems to me they're trying to link it to the MMORPG of Warhammer. Sad event, really sad.

This game feels more like a boardgame than an rpg, but I have fun playing.

You can't slam a company for making money. If they weren't making money, you wouldn't have the games you love. It's a hobby. It's a luxury.

I have been playing WFRP for the last 18 years.
This is a..."thing" I will not buy: it is not an RPG, it is not a boardgame, it is not a cardgame....it is nothing!!!!
EPIC FAIL!

Why would you drop D&D4E, for what seems to be any entry level board game/rpg.
SimoBruno 2 years ago
D&d4e is horrible. Only people who dedicate their lives to play under the d&d title would play that game.
