  • BRILLIANT

  • It would have been so great if Pink Floyd for the Live 8 had called also on stage Syd,just an appearance...ok that he was not in great conditions but maybe he could appear on stage,so the band could have been fully reunited

  • david gilmour maybe has become a little old, but it doesn't get him from being best guitarist ever, Pink Floyd owns!

  • You can feel GIlmour's love and appreceation for Syd in every note of this song.

  • @StarInvasion No question about it.

  • Pink floyd = sound perfection.

  • Great Syd!

  • Thanks syd for writing this Thanks to rick for the brilliant keyboards and thanks dave gilmore for singing this classic. Brilliant

  • sooooooo trippy O.O

  • Even though David Gilmour wasn't on Piper, this belongs in his repertoire and he makes it his own.

Damnit, Gilmour owns ANY song! It's time the world knew SIR David Gilmour - indeed he already is a knight, by popular acclimation. Let's make it happen for next year!

  • Love it

  • Absolutely fantastic I wish i was there to hear that David certainly didnt forget where he came from on singing this with the brilliant rick wright RIP

  • R.I.P Syd and Rick. How we wish you were here.

  • Trop trop bon morceau, superbe live!

  • Je m'envole en écoutant ça... c'est juste génial !

  • se syd barret vedesse questo sarebbe esterefatto pure lui

  • What a super peformance.

  • A masterpiece.

    Lime and limped green.....

  • thoose lights hurted my eyes but i dont care i shuted my eyes and let the feeling of all sadness passaway david gilmour and pink floyd make me a very happy 13 year old girl

  • I agree with karaokekongen. It's one of the masterpiece by Pink Floyd.

  • fab beeen listening to floyd and gilmour for most of my life great !!!!!

  • Piper and Saucerful are great albums, this songs a classic! RIP Syd and Rick, you are greatly missed.

  • GRACIAS GILMOUR!!!!!!

  • rip rick

  • one of the most underrated pink floyd song. yet one of the best in my opinion. most people who listen to pink floyd have just heard dark side of the moon and the wall. piper at the gates of dawn is just awesome

  • so is a sucerfull of secrets thare all good from piper to the divison bell

  • @karaokekongen that's true i actually don't really like the songs roger waters composes the best ones are david's and rick's like comfortably numb on the wall, and the great gig in the sky in dark side and most of the other songs after roger went away

  • Gilmour wasn´t in the band when they released piper but he played it live when he replaced syd as guitarist and singer, as can be heard on ummaguma, the live set...

  • didn't they also record a new studioalbum with david gilmour playing astronomy domine?

  • Gilmour wasn't in the band when they did this song was he?

    kl performance

  • Immortal!!

  • Why are these clips not available anymore? They were before. What copyright restrictions?

  • The percussion on this version is supreme. I put this CD in my car's system, crank it, and the subwoofers shake the 'hood. Intense!

  • this was the grandaddy of 'em all!

  • David come to Argentina!

Please, after that i can die happy :P

  • This is just fantastic!

  • SYD = GOD

  • I wish Gilmour and his band were playing here in Monterrey, Mexico with Richard Wright at his side.

"Time is gone, the song is over"

    RIP Rick and Syd.

    Shine On!!

  • Awesome song. RIP Rick Wright

  • R.I.P. Syd Barret LOV yea David Gilmour, great version of the song.

  • Rest in Peace, Mr. Wright, and thank you.

  • There is an even better live version of Astronomy on pink floyds ummagumma. He also does an amazing version of another of Syd Barretts compositions called dark globe, here on you tube.. although he doesn't do anything from the final cut. He knows a good song does David Gilmour.

  • Great song!

  • The Barrett gem that kept Pink Floyd on the FM air waves until 'Dark Side' came out.

    Great job.

  • An old song ... but it's so fresh to hear it now, should play and compose more songs this one today...

  • excellent show pink floyd is the best band to play live i know this is not pink floyd

  • True, it's half of Pink Floyd. But more than good enough. This is, in my mind, perhaps the best live rendition of "Astronomy Domine". David does that wail excellently at his accomplished age.

Losing Richard was a sad tragedy. Can you imagine how the rock world will react if David passes on? I'm not looking forward to that day.

  • In-TENSE!

  • One of the greatest bands ever.

  • they opened with this on the division bell tour in wash dc.....totally took me by surprise...then i thought i was gonna cry...but they came out as a 4 piece to do this...with nick and guy pratt on bass....thank god all that stuff was filmed...i like that rick does the syd parts....it gets no better than this.

  • Rick Wright RIP

  • The pink floyd innovated laser shows. The band Tool, has a great live show with lasers also.

  • must be hard to play with all those flashing lights

  • The best live version other than Barrett's is on Ummagumma...Check it out..

  • Done some 40 years before this one...

  • magnifique Performance ,n'oublions pas Rick ! le fond de son clavier est magique

  • Awesome Pink Floyd Syd Barret classic

  • love how they performed it like they did in the 60's with syd

  • This song is so trippy

  • Genius composition, beautifully executed . Bravo and thanks .

  • makes me remind of the lightshows back in the early days. Great song :D

  • This song was better on the pulse

  • Comment removed

  • Gilmour still rocks.

  • Comment removed

  • increible.. Los mejores musicos lejos

  • Gilmour is using the same kind of guitar that Syd used.

  • r.i.p. syd

  • I believe Mr. Gilmour said something to the effect...'it would be like sleeping with your ex-wife'.

  • Amazing live performance ;D

    The floyd rocks!

    R.I.P. Richard Wright

  • they finished the floyd in an unfortunate way. rick wrights gone now so lets just remember the legacy they have left us. they are all legends.

  • This song is still a rush even without the sensation heighteners, who knew!

  • can't imagine this song without barrett...every line sung reminds me of the '66 performance

  • In the year's that have passed I would definitely say that Gilmour has demonstrated a superb sense of musical and conceptual respect for this song.

The man knows how to rock and in no way pretends it's his own.

He just plays Barrett's piece hard.

    Superb!

  • genial nada mas que decir grande David Gilmour

    (Grande Syd Barret)

  • exelent performans!!!

  • I was talking about the final cut. There on the record, are the words "Music by Roger Waters- Preformed by Pink Floyd," Rdaws adressed it on this same page of comments at the bottom and I was agreeing with him.

  • Awesome show!

But imagine this lightshow to the Ummagumma version..

  • I think you'll find BOTH were by Barrett!

  • Awesome!

  • Gilmour in amrs o0o00o0o0o

  • I miss the Mr. Mason's agressivity on the early Floyd tunes, and on this song. The technical recording/mising standards since DSOTM has left the drummer souding soft and flat, except final cut and In the flesh, with an higly agressive mix with the drum on first plan.

Does anyone understand what I want to say?

The drum is just sounding a bit faded, distant, lacking life.

I use to blame this drumer, but I really apreciate fim playimg Arnold Layne and the new Gilmour stuff.

  • you know the final cut isnt a true floyd album, its a Roger Waters solo record.

  • i hear you man! the last really good drumming mason did was at live in pompeii

  • I sometimes talk way too complicated but hey that's me.. glad that you managed to solve the Helena puzzle.. it's all about David means amazing & complex :)

  • scroll back 1 month & check what some Grasi1234 wrote lmao.. 'God, this howl takes me to another planet...' man do I have to remind you what YOU wrote lol ;)

  • wow it does take you to another planet.. Sigma 6 maybe? rip Syd and yep, you're so (W)right (rip Rick..) Grasi1234

if Pompeii counts as (kinda extra)terrestrial spot, it's my close encounter of the 3rd kind 'another planet'.. love you David, your wild hair looks fully focussed; you & Rick at Echoes in the empty amphiteater.. aaah major shivers!!

you, Syd and Ric have always been 'my PF', part of my parallel universe.. David my (does soulmate sound too much) special friend.. I'm so grateful

  • Syd will live forever.

  • Great stuff, but I wish Dave would get over himself and bury the hatchet with Roger once and for all.

  • I think they did meet a few times but don't forget the media and fans seem to want the feud to keep on going. I myself don't get caught up in this stuff. Both are great musicians along with the entire band. Both men just grew up a little later and Richards death hit them both as well as Nick Mason

  • They have returned to speaking terms after the Live 8.

  • these men are all class. it would have been a poor thing to end Pink Floyd on a sour note.

  • Oh please!!

Gilmour reached out to Waters prior to Momentary Lapse of Reason and the result? - he was brought to court by Waters.

Then prior to recording the Division Bell Gilmour again approached Waters and the result? - he was told to "go fuck himself" by Waters.

All interviews prior to 2002 illustrate a David Gilmour who, although both miffed and hurt by Waters' former totalitarian ways, didn't dismiss working together again.

Today I don't blame Gilmour for the residual feelings.

  • Waters has acknowledged his error and would like a reunion...it IS Gilmour who is dragging his feet!

  • Waters is a huge pussy and he is making this whole thing more than it needs to be

Waters is so stupid in WHICH ONES PINK he says he wants a reunion why doesnt he call gilmour up and tell him!

  • waters was the one who called gilmour about the live 8 preformance.

  • Good for Gilmour.

    Read what I wrote above.

Gilmour was interested re-uniting with Waters after his 1985 solo work and up until 1994. He tried. Waters gave his famous bitter-entrenched responses and the result is a Gilmour who is doing his own thing.

And Waters is doing his own thing.

That Waters wants to suddenly get back together all of a sudden is a little RICH.

  • So I personally don't blame Gilmour for not wanting to revisit it. But you blame him for it? - that's pathetic and shows a complete disregard for the history and feelings.

I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan and even I can allow that maybe it's for the better that Gilmour and Waters don't work together again. I understand the whole "it's for the fans" angle but, truth be told, I'm a HUGE fan and am starting to recognize how much safer it is to not blow these two musicians up.

  • Waters says yes, Gilmour says no...ergo the ball is in Gilmours' court.

  • And that is the correct order of the universe.

Indeed, the way it ought to be.

  • I agree with you, Rabidsenses, and the best thing would be if one or the other is doing a show then maybe either one could be a guest for a few songs. I understand they are in touch with each other, so at least they came that far. But to tour may not be that good anymore.

  • Takes me right back to the early days of Floyd. Pure Barret magic, well done David, I admire how you keep Syd's memory alive. Rock on.

  • is that a oil projection at the back? if so, Brilliant if not , Brilliant!

  • Syd Barret shine on your crazy diamond.....Richard Wright the great gig in the sky....

  • This is among my favorite Pink Floyd song and I'm glad to see that Gilmour is performing it. I'm a little more partial to faster tempo for it, though. Still 5-star worthy.

  • great song great performance great performance by gilmour as usual. the fans get their moneys worth. rip syd and rick

  • The appeal and longevity of this song is a testament to Syd Barrett's genius.

This song kept Pink Floyd on the radio until 1973's release of The Dark Side of the Moon propelled them into super stardom.

    Great job, guys.

    RIP Syd + Rick

  • Rick Wright R.I.P

  • Syd Barret is a genues, RIP Syd Barret

  • Incredible. Simply incredible.

  • No.

  • I saw two shows of the Division Bell tour in Boston. When this opened the show, the crowd went f'n BERSERK!

  • This guy still makes great music.

  • Pinchemadremente Perfecto

  • Super song!!!!!!!!!

  • David is a God!!!

  • f*ckn incredible opener for the division bell tour shows! who ever says dave isnt one of THE GREATS must need a hearing aid or a third eye adjustment! find me someone else who plays precise clean heartfelt cut-throat licks (see shine on you crazy d...) and ill put my mouth to shutting!who the hell put slash in the same ballpark anyway? the dark horse to dave's excalibur will always be Jimmi Page! damn the torpedoes and pass me my Les paul!

  • Man, great song! I love The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and I'm glad that David is still playing some of Syd's ole classics :)

  • all we would need now is syd rising out of no where in his classic robe, straping up his mirrored fender Esquire, and starting the riff. I guess this is yet another tip of the hat to Syd's music.

  • Who is Slash? ;)

  • Those lights take you back to the Syd era!

  • David Gilmour is a Master of Sound! Even though he doesn't have any special guitar or vocal skills, he have an amazing composing talent and a feeling for music. He makes his music full of power and beauty without shredding 300 b.p.m. Solo in the center of Echoes kicks ass. And he wasn't to Pink Floyd what Slash was to Guns'n'Roses. This is completly different league. I don't mean Slash is worse than Dave, just we can't compare them and their contribution to bands where they were playing...

  • énorme! Respect D.

  • saca la mota gueyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • a wevo!!!!!!! yo estoy dandole en bong!!!

  • es lo maximo. fijense en la musicalizacion, la imagen y la secuencia perfecta

  • You must be talking about Interstellar Overdrive.

  • Not necessarily, they did many 10 min + versions in 1971. Oh, they were awesome

  • Genius is easy to Brillant Musicians

  • R.I.P RICK & SYD

  • I love everything about this song, strange sounding harmonies, that classic syd barret guitar tone and everything, the psychedelic lighting and, its just good, really good. :) RIP Rick ):

  • R.I.P Syd Barrett as well... :'(

  • I'd do everything for coming back at August, 26th 2006 and be there with David and... Mr. Richard William Wright.
