I say that I like this movie and the original as well. I think this movie is much deeper than the first one and actually shows more of what happens in Bastian's world than the other one. You get a glimpse into who he and his father really are. I also love the ending :)

Okay, the first film though it covered half the novel was unbeatable. This film... though it sort of did the second half of the novel was... meh. I used to think it was crap UNTIL along came the third film. Now I give this movie much more credit, at least it still felt it was still part of the same universe and mythos.

Even though this really can't be compared to the original, I think it's still a good movie. Sure, it could have ended in 5 seconds with wishing that everything was back to normal, but it does teach some nice lessons. It's also nice to see the boy and his father end on a good note.

LOVE this movie. Sure it takes some serious liberties with the book but the first one did too. The first movie only adapted the first half of the book and removed many major events, characters, and themes. This one changed the story of part II a lot, but kept a lot of the themes, as well as rescuing a few from Part I. Point is, I don't watch either movie because they're good but because I'm sentimental. And at least they're both based on the book. Thank God I never saw III. Too old by then.

@flekktenner I know that's your opinion, but The Neverending Story is in NO WAY more "DEEP" than Lord of the Rings. If you've read any of the Silmarillon you'd know just how insanely deep it is. If you're talking about deep on an emotional level, well it's just about how it hits you and how you connect to it. But, c'mon! Lord of the Rings = Masterpiece of Literature, The Neverending Story = Good, nostalgic kids movie. The first movie atleast. This one is... ehhhh...

I dont know where I get the mental image from, maybe its the third movie... but I always had this weird remembrance of the Childlike Empress being in this little boat thing, and REALLY FAT compared to the way she was in the first movie. o_o I dont know why that is. I liked this movie. I support it... to an extent. But the third movie should never have been made. As much as it is a beautiful and highly philosophical series; the third movie was a money maker, and nothing less. Long live NES.

Dreadnaught396, that's not the point of making the movie. It's about telling a story, not finding the quickest way to end something. The same concept applies to the first movie. Falkor could have flown Atreyu all the way to the Southern Oracle, for example. But he didn't. He wanted Atretu to travel part way there on his own to make the story interesting and exciting so that Bastian, as well as others, would be excited to read the story. I might be wrong, but I think that's the gist of the idea.
