  • I have a new Mazda 3 2011,is it the same to replace the cabin filter?

  • Replaced filters in my wife's 2004 3i using this video as reference. OMG, I'm glad this only has to be done every 17k. I actually bought this car from my brother and he had taken it to the local Ford dealer 2 years ago to have these filters change out for around $100. We'll to our surprise....the filters were MIA. Another satisfied customer ripped off by dealer service dept!!!

  • jesus christ

  • damn, fuck. I failed I can't get those nuts off

  • What a pain in the butt!

  • How much does the dealer charge to do this? honestly I would rather just pay them what they want to do this.

  • I dont understand why everyone says this is so hard to do. Yes it is more difficult than most vehicles, but it really doesn't take a rocket scientist to accomplish, especially using this video. It's mainly just removing a few screws and popping some pins and then chaning the filters. Anyway great video and thanks for posting!!!

  • THAT SUCKS I WORK FOR HONDA THE CABIN FILTERS ARE RIGHT BEHIND THE GLOVE BOX ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PUSH THE WALLS FROM THE GLOVE BOX INSIDE AND IT FULLY OPENS AND THE FILTER IS RIGHT THERE. OH WELL ITS GOING TO TAKE LONGER THAN I THOUGHT BUT I DONT WANT MY KID BREATHING ALL THAT CRAP IN!

  • Wow that sucks glad they made it easier in the 2010

  • not sure what model year this is but it was much easier in my 2010 mazda 3 check out my video

    h t t p : / / youtu . be/iJeUX7r_5J4

    no glove box removal needed

Take out the spaces in the link

  • @TheKstarks87 Your method is not applicable to a 2008 Mazda 3. You must remove the Fuse Panel/Box and the pain in the ass bracket blocking the panel which evidently does not exist on the 2010 model. A-hole Ford/Mazda engineers.

  • @ponyxpress2

Is it the same other than the bracket? Im about to do this to my 08.5 Hatch

  • Just did this, WHAT A BITCH, i was doing it just cuz i was bored. 45 mins to tear it down and no filter lol. I was just gonna wash it and put it back but ended up having to buy one so i didnt do all that work for nothing. Thanks for this vid, wudnt of done it otherwise

  • Great video! Filterheads video for the 3 uses a Mazda5, and is nothing like the 3. Being able to pull the glove box made the difference. Couple of additional points: the fastener for the kickpanel - pull the center out an 1/8th" then the rest of the button; disconnect the bottom connectors before pulling the fuse block down; you don't need to pull the trim stip completely off to take out the glove box screws. Cannot believe this is the same company that did the 6 - it's a five minute job, tops.

  • @Marine1146- Mazda is Ford Stupid!!

  • @jessebecerra1 Mazda is not Ford, i buy some actions from facebook and i am the owner of the facebook?

  • Great video, very helpful! Just want to add one note: it's better to disconnect the battery ground in the beginning. My wiper went nuts after I pulled the connector from the fuse box. It moved back and forth in steps. Also I heard some clicking noise likely from the motor. Nevertheless, the wiper seems working fine after I put things back.

  • wow!!! That looks like a lot of work !

  • Comment removed

  • Leave it to a Fucking Jap engineer to bury filters in a car that way!

  • Yet another PRIME example of why I buy American Vehicles!

  • The cabin air filter is in the same spot for mazda3 and speed3's and its the same process

  • Is it the same on my 2009 mazda3 hatchback, not speed3. thanks

  • Big thumbs up for this video.

  • Great Video! I'm just shocked that it's that much work to replace that thing. I really want to replace it, but I think I'm going to need to wait until I have more time. My Ford Taurus had a cabin filter, and you could just pull it out from under the hood. It was an easy replacement.

  • hi do a mazda 3i 2006 have a cabin air filter?, and if so , is it in the same place as the mazda speed3?

  • hi do a mazda 3i have a cabin air filter?, and if so , is it in the same place as the mazda speed3?

  • [continued]... Overall, it took me about 2 hours, but I think next time will only take about an hour, because I spent some extra time after removing some of the parts to put them back on so I wouldn't forget when time to reassemble.

  • Hey man, thanks a lot for the video. I just did this today on a 2008 Mazda 3. It is exactly the same as yours. Funny how the hardest part is never what you expect. The hardest part for me was untightening the bolts that hold the silver bracket that holds the fuse box in place. They were on so tight that I had to hit the handle of my socket wrench with a hammer to loosen it up. Other than that everything went fine. It was kind of humid today, so I sweated like crazy.

  • WTF, they couldn't find a better spot to put it?

  • Hi, very nice video, both is not nessesary step 1 and step 2. I have all make today vithout 1.-2.steps... !! Regards Hynek.

  • Jesus Christ thats is a lot of work......man, its times like this that make me miss my MS6 :(

  • Holy shit that's a lot of work. You just have to remove the glove box on the MS6. :)

  • My buddy was talking to me about changing this filter. I thought , hell should be easy (changed a civic filter in the past > easy). I saw this video and said what a pain to change 2 damn but important filters?!! Is this a Ford design in disguise b/c this is absolutely retarded!! Its a good project to do on a day off but the labour involved? Might as well changed the head gasket while I'm at it! Pathetic!

  • Oh Crap... My wife just bought a '12 Mazda 5... It's gonna be a Royal PITA to change the cabin air filter... Just changed mine in my '08 Honda Accord: Took about 90 seconds including removing and putting back the stuff in the glove box.

  • Unbelievable! I don't even trust a mechanic to do all that correctly. I just got a 2008 Mazda3 and was hoping it had been improved. But after taking the side panel and panel under the glove box off, and looking around, it looks the same as this. You shouldn't have to undo all that wiring to replace a filter! I'm close to 30K miles. Now I have to figure out what I'm gonna do. I just bought the damn filters!!

  • This was a PITA for me to install. I want to swear at Mazda for making me a contortionist.

  • I have a '03 Mazda 3 Sport TX. and I have a problem. After I changed the filters and put back everything where it was, I had some issues with the windows. When I try to use them with their own control buttons, everything works fine. But when I try to use them from the drivers panel at the left front door, nothing happens first. Then without doing anything the first two windows works again. But the rear two... Nothing. So did I messed up something or it just a fuse issue etc. Please help!

    Thanks!

  • Great video! My wife's is a 2005 and has diffusers instead of filters. They stack on top of each other just like the filters in your video. In the airbox, towards the rear of the car there is a screen. I assume this is the "filter". Is this correct?

  • hoping this is similar to the '04 mazda3. this looks dreadful to replace.

  • Nice video-but why do it AT NIGHT!? LOL

  • Hi.. does the cabin filter affect the A/C? my A/C is kinda weak. i need to put it to 3 just to feel cold.

  • @jhoer No kidding. Search for "Billm Max A/C Mod", all the Mazda Forums are raving about it. I just can't find the instructions on how to *do* it :/

  • @jhoer yes

  • Just changed mine on an 06 mazda3 si. Cant remember the last time i cursed so much. car has 87k miles and the filters were disgusting. i guess it was worth it.

  • This is just sooooooo horrible!!! All that to replace the cabin air filter?? This is a 100% awesome video though... I have an 03 Mazda 6.. I'm happy i wouldnt have to deal with this much.. Everyone with a 3.. Good luck. :P

  • Thanks for the video. I am fixing to change out my filters on my 2006 and this makes it a lot easier to visualize the process ahead of time.

Good thing i saw the comment to disconnect the battery, cause my impatient self always forgets to do that first. :P

  • nicely done!

  • Changed out mine in my 2007 Mazda 3 Grand Touring. It went well thanks to the help of your video. Major praises and thanks.

  • I know you have gotten a lot of praise for your video and it's well deserved. Thanks, I have a 2007 Mazda 3 and it was exactly the same, thanks again!

  • Hey guys, I just arrived from the workshop (not Mazda, just a little friendo's) and he could replace it without getting the glovebox out at all. He said, it can be done easily so.

  • There is another step that was left out that's extremely important... DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST! I didn't discoonect the battery and shorted the fuse panel. Other than that... thanks for sharing... it took me a while to get it done, since it was the first time, but it was a very good tutorial.... other than not mentioning to DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST!

  • Comment removed

  • Wow. thanks for sharing. However, this is too complicated for me as there are way too many steps involved. I got overwhelmed just watching this lol.

  • VERY EASY TO DO, AFTER WATCHING THE VIDEO,

    DIFFICULTY 4

    COMMON SENCE 8.

SO FOR THE DUMB FUCKS PLEASE TAKE IT TO MAZDA AND PAY THE $120.LOL

  • GREAT VIDEO, THANZ A BILLION, WITH OUT THIS VIDEO I WOULD HAVE F*** SOMETHING UP.

  • Ahhh just realized I didn't have to replace it....thanks to the 45000 mile tune up...ftw!,,,

  • Could Mazda have made it any easier? That's fin bullshit and mine WILL NOT be replaced.

  • Dear Mazda. Thanks for making this super easy *rolls eyes*. Well at least with this vid i'll know what all is needed going in. Good instructional!! Anybody know if the process changed at all for the Gen 2 2010+ model?

  • great video. I was suprised to find no filters in my 2005 3i. I called the dealer and he said they were left out on a lot of 05's. It's got them now

  • Thanks for posting this instructional video. It sure makes it easier when someone can guide you through.

  • Thanks for the video, watching it made the whole process fairly quick and relatively painless.

  • What I don't understand is HOW IN THE HELL the guy at the dealership new it needed to be change. Mine has a lot of lint and some mold. I am going to replace mine in 20k. I thought I was getting alergies. NOPE. DON'T be afraid to do this filter change and DON'T forget to disconnect the negative battery terminal. As soon as I started pulling the fuse panel connectors the windsheild wipers started going. It is a challenge. NOT hard. YOU CAN DO PEOPLE!! Just follow his video. Thank you MazdaSpeedy3

  • Wow, I could NOT have done this filter change in my 2007 MS3 without it. The hardest part was holding one filter up and installing the second one. It took me about 30 minutes. Don't forget that when you put the glovebox back in pull the kick panel away first. THANK YOU SO MUCH MAZDASPEEDY3.

  • God Damnnnnnnnnnnnn, why the hell is it so hard!!!...why the FUCK did they build it this way, what the FUCK where they thinking, now i'm reconsidering changing it even at the dealership, they are stupid and dumb, they'll 100% ruin something along the way!!!!!

  • OMG.... This is so dumb to replace. No wonder my repair guy wants to get $25 an hour to do it, im paying for his kid to go to college!!

  • Is that ok, don't remove the fuse?

  • Thanks. I bought the filter(s) a few days ago. Tonight, I thought I'd take a look see. Spent ten minutes looking around, pulled down the fuse panel - nada - and then said to self -- let's google it.

Okay not a job to do the night before a trip - don't want to risk f--king up some wiring!

Like many have said W-T-F! I'll have to try it when I have more time.

  • what were the techs at Mazda thinking! That design is a blunder.

    (I own a 2009 Mazda 3)

  • Wow, that looked like a pain in the ass!! Thanks for the video. I need to do mine.

  • Thanks! This helped us out ALOT!!!!!!

  • Helped us out alot!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • Holy shit all this for a cabin air filter on my mazda 6 you just pop the glove box off and there it is 5 minute job.

  • Thank you so much for the video! I love the clear instructions and it saves me big bucks for a simple replacement. The only thing I got stuck at is removing those 2 nuts on the bracket. They are super tight! Any recommendation on what tools you used to get them removed? Thanks.

  • great vid man. Thanks alot saved me $80.00 at the stealership + parts. Got the filters on ebay for $12.00 shipped and with your help popped them in in 15 minutes. Musta sucked the first time thats alot of b/s/ to get to them. Anyway a big thanks it was an invaluable video.

  • dammit, just went through this to find out that my filters are still freaking clean... LOL 20k miles on it, and i live in the desert, I was expecting something else. ... At least I can save my new filters for another 20k miles...

  • holy freaking complex just to change an air filter. Why do they hid them do deep? it should be easier to change.

  • Thanks, you helped me a great deal with this. I had a little trouble holding the top filter in while I slid the bottom one in. I used a couple pieces of folded tape on the top edge of the top filter and it stayed in place enough to slide the bottom one in.

    Thanks again!

  • Awesome tutorial, thanks for the help! I just replaced mine today on my '07 Mazda3 - at first I tried to skip several steps and go straight for the air filter cover... then realized quickly why you decided to take everything apart! The Mazda dealer quoted me about 100 bucks to do this same service. It may be a PITA, but it's still a hell of a lot cheaper to do it yourself.... great work!

  • I got about two minutes into this video and even by then I was like "Oh, the hell with it." Why put something replaceable in such a horrible location?! I replaced the cabin filter in 30 seconds on a Civic, and I'd never even done it before! Still, very useful video, but wow.

  • Thanks for posting the video! Just did this on my 2007 Mazda 3 which has 41,000 miles and man what a pain in the a_ _ this was! My air filters were pretty clean compared to yours at 46,000 miles. I keep it on recirculation a lot so that might be why. I only spent $20 on the filters so I guess I did save a little over having the stealership do it. Whoever the Mazda engineer was that designed the location of the cabin air filter needs to be canned!

  • I watched the video. then go and immediately got into the car. but I've done without dismantling the dashboard.thaks.greeting from Turkey..

  • Just came home from Jiffy Lube and looked up Cabin Air Filter Replacement for Mazdaspeed 3 because i asked them how to cabin air filter was and they say this car has no cabin filter on it. Now i know why they told me that. This aint no "Jiffy" process. Excellent video and thanks for showing me where the filter is. I knew this car had to of had one all along!

  • After 4 years of owning the car, I changed mine a few hours ago and it was PITA ...... Mazda should have designed this AC system in such a way that replacement of the cabin filter will be easy and straight forward with just a few screws. However, I still love my Mazda 3 after the aggravation of this type of install.

  • Man thats a lot of work lol. I'm just going to buy the parts and get it installed by my mechanic. Thanks for the vid!

  • Great video. Just did this on my 06 mazda3, all thanks to your helpful video. In my car there is no need to remove the glove box, but it gives you much less space to work in, so I still recommend doing it. I pulled a ton of leaves and junk out of there. Much needed service! Thanks again!

  • Thanks man for this video! it help me so much! Gracias, me ayudo bien brutal. muy buen video!

  • Just did this on a 2006 Mazda 5. Much easier. No need to remove glove box, right kick panel or anything to do with the fuse box. Just remove the panel under the glove box and the left kick panel. Then the 4 screws on the filter door. Spent more time looking in the shop vac for the glove box screws that I accidently sucked up than on the filters.

  • Wow. That's a ridiculous amount of work. Why does Mazda have to make things so difficult?

  • Awesome video! Thanks so much.Couldn't have done it without the video. Some quite fiddly hand manipulations going on!

  • All I can say is "Thank You" MazdaSpeedy3. I had my 18 year old daughter do the filter change out. Thanks to you it went smoothly. She did not have any parts left over. I bought her a '06 Mazda3 with 35K miles, presently 55K and it was time, the air conditioner was suffering. The filter was plugged with particulate. For anyone out there that has a cooling issue always check the filter, just like your central air at home. You'll look silly if the repair guy says "It was only the airfilter"!

  • Man! you are a life saver. you made what could have been a very difficult job into an easy one. i had even gone to the library to access alldata but the instructions were crap. thanks!

  • Thanks for the video. Just finished up on my speed. Everything actually goes pretty smoothly until I got to the metal rack where the circuit board hangs. I could not get those bolts off for the life of me! So I ended up just having to bend the metal piece on the left as far right as I felt comfortable...and was able to finish. Thanks again.

  • How much are cabin filters & can you find one at a retail place(not the dealership)? My Mazda dealership wants to charge me $100 for them to do this..that's not happening haha.

  • only mazda speeds? or 2006 Mazda3i 2.0? does it have one.

  • Thank you for this video. I just changed my 2008 Mazda 3i Touring.

  • This was great. Thank you. I just replaced mine today. It took a little while but I feel good about saving the money and learning how to do it myself. Next time I will be much quicker.

  • Thanks a lot for your great video, it was very useful. I have just completed the replacement of mine on a Mazda 3 2007. The fuse box has a few more plugs but that was the only difference. It is hard to believe that designers do such a poor job for something that needs to be replaced on a regular basis...Except if the point is to have us spend money at the dealership! Thank a lot again.

  • I have cabin filters to pick up this afternoon for my 09' Speed3. I had no idea what kind of undertaking I had gotten myself into! Good thing I like tedious work! Thanks for the vid bro.

  • I was thinking about doing this job myself, but I'm now convinced it falls under the heading of "Can't I Pay Somebody Else To Do This For Me?". Thank you very much for the video!

  • thx for the video but it looks like a complete pain in the ass, so i guess i'll pay the 75 bucks for the dealer to change it.

  • Great video!! Really helped me out. I never would have done it myself without it. When I went to "replace" my filter, I came to find out there wasn't one there!!!! I'll be looking forward to your videos on turn signal switches, parking brakes, and radios!!! lol

  • Great work mate. I am doing the girlfriends Mazda 3 here in Australia. 2006 model... most things are the same except obviously here in Australia we are on the other side of the car. Thankfully the bracket for the fuse box is easier to get out, and the air filter cover is now big enough that you dont have to slide the filters up. You can simple put one filter in and put the other filter on top. Thanks so much for putting this up on on here. Without this I wouldnt have bothered.

  • Thanks all! I plan to record all repair/maintenance work I do in the future to help others.

  • @MazdaSpeedy3 Awesome demonstration. I will certainly use your video when I change the cabin filter soon.

  • Thank you so much for this video. It's going to be immensely helpful when we replace the filters in my friend's Mazda3.

  • *ucking Mazda engineers. Clearly Mazda made by greedy mind.

  • OMG! I like to do this stuff but that is straight up nasa space shuttle shit. Clearly Mazda wants to keep people coming back to the Dealership.

  • After watching this, I think the cabin air filter on my Mazda3 is going to remain there until the air stops blowing through the vents.

  • holy shit this was complicated do to

  • Jesus balls that's complicated... I though I might try to do this myself but I think I will pass. You video was the nail in the coffin.

    later

  • Hello MazdaSpeedy3. Very nice video. Very good jog my friend.

  • Does any body know if the same for right hand drive models?

  • i will call McGiver, to come home and hell me with this next weekend, maybe he can hold the camera for me

, so i can use the two hands lol, thanks a lot a milion for this post!!

  • Thanks a milion for posting this, but it still looks like such a PITA, mine might not ever get changed unless I have to go into the dash for some other more important reason anyway.

  • This video has one extra step, in case anyone was wondering why I had 2 posted. I'm going to delete the other.

  • @MazdaSpeedy3 thats excellent. could u please show the video for mazda 626 if poss. thanks

  • great video i got to change out my filters out. got 40k on my ms3 and they need to be changed. thanks helps out alot bro

  • Great job!

  • Yea, it was even harder trying to figure it out the first time without instructions. It took me 20 min or so just to find the place they went. That little compartment cover is pretty discrete and doesn't look like a place where filters go. The filters come with a little leaflet in Japaneese with a real crappy picture of the outline of the compartment with the cover removed.

    Not fun..

  • Good job, i have a mazda 5 and check if i can replace the cabin air filter myself. Since i saw from you video where is the compartment i tried to jump to your Step 4, since i have no idea how to remove a mazda 5 glove compartment. I use a short cross head driver or a regular swiss army knife to remove the PITA nut . I dont have to remove tha glove compartment, fuses, etc.

    Thanks for the info.

  • Thanks for the instructions but what a PITA!
