  • I'm sorry, this ending does not compare to the ending too Diabolical Box. This reminds me of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (minus time travel and puzzles), where Bruce Wane could have had a life before becoming Batman but fate took a turn for the worse. In other words, I've seen this ending a lot.

  • When Claire faded away, a particular song came into my head. It's the song 42, by Coldplay, in which the opening verse is "Those who are dead, are not dead, but just living in my head."

Even though people die, the imprint that they leave behind will always stay with us. Following this line of thought, as long as we keep those memories alive, no one in our lives is truly "dead".

    Isn't that right, Professor Layton?

    ...

I cannot wait to continue enjoying these works of art...

  • Luke's voice is soooooo wierd in the American version...

  • The worst part of it all is that the ship Luke boards at the ends holds an eery resemblance to the Titanic D:

  • now layton you know a gentelman never cries in front of a lady and you just did and you also made me cry awwwww :( ive played this game lots and still never fails to make me cry

  • i didn't cry at all, i must be a robot.

  • @Ultrasnorlax Not crying doesn't mean you don't think it's sad.

  • @PokePiku it was defintly sad and i can understand why people found it depressing, i've just seen far more depressing things.

  • @Ultrasnorlax Oh, I didn't cried too. But I found it sad.

  • @PokePiku yeah i agree.

  • My childhood is over...

  • the best Layton game ever made.

  • Oh... The PAIN. I literally get a tight feeling in my chest whenever I think of this game. And to think that Layton still loved Clair after ten years, it really tugs and pulls at heartstrings.

The absolute end, however, makes me happy. I thought it was an uplifting way to end. :)

  • This is only the third game ever to make me cry (The other two being the first Klonoa and the Christmas level in Elite Beat Agents). Honestly, the whole last act of this game, from the showdown in the tavern on, was just stunning. No Layton game is ever going to top this one.

  • I don't think Akihiro Hino realizes how many people have been moved/touched by his brainchildren. God knows where he gets his inspiration in crafting these scenarios. Easily the genius behind all of Professor Layton.

  • *sniffs*

Th-this is the most saddening I've ever watched...

Claire.... May we see you again.

  • Oh my GOD. Layton crying is the saddest thing ever drawn.

  • I love this on. It is my favorite Professor Layton game and DS game. I espesially love this scene and the music. I hope the games keep coming. I cry everytime I see this scene. Perfectly done. Three cheers to everyone who helps make the Professor Layton games and movie(s); I'm optimistically hoping for more. I share the games with my family and friends so they will know how awesome they are too.

  • I'm glad noone was home when I finished this game. I was literally crying more than I did when my rabbit died ;=; Especially when Layton lost his composure...

  • This is so sad! I actually cried!

  • Dam you Bill. You killed 7 innocent people, Claire, and both of Clive's parents. You drove Clieve to destory multiple neighborhoods and Dimitri to waste his life working on something that was likely to have never worked. All for money, and sadly these things happen in real life too. If you have power and money you can get away with almost anything.

  • @BioshadowX too bad the politician didn't die in the explosion huh?how maddening is that a innocent person died but bill survived >..<

  • although the european version has a better line. she says "and our Lost Future". sounds so much better than "unwound"

  • *CRY*

  • Professor Layton has the same hair as Looker from pokemon, but brown. ^.^

  • Am I the only one that's confused about where Luke went and why? and does anyone know what happened to Emmy because I don't remember her from the first 3 Layton games?

  • @TaylorAnnTerry Last Specter is a prequel to the first 3 games, so there will probably be an explanation for Emmy's absence if the next games are sequels to it.

  • @TaylorAnnTerry His dad got transferred, so he and his family are moving. Not sure where.

  • SO MANY TEARS DHAAA

  • @RinsEmoLullaby Emmy is freakin awesome! i luv it when she beats up ppl C:

  • No Luke why? *cryin face* Why did you go? *straight face* I'm serious why? Why did he leave?

  • dang... more sad than the ending of mother 3...

  • Entire ending of the game made me cry....but when I saw "to be continued"....I died of happiness.

  • NO HE DIDN'T!!! HE DIDN'T TAKE OFF HIS HAT!! HE COULDN'T HAVE! OMG!!!

  • The 7 dislikers must have no feelings

  • This one still always get's me. It's always at the same point, too. When Claire says goodbye and Layton's loses his composure and says he can't lose again. Great stuff.

  • Iv got the game but my sis lost it but do they go back to there time and why is luck going!?

  • @MissPokemonMad They never left their time. The only person who time travels in the game is Claire.

  • @MissPokemonMad Only Claire time travels, and Luke is leaving because his father's job transferred them somewhere else.

  • I literally cried at the ending as if I felt what Layton was feeling. Games like these are unique and have a way to touch your heart... ♥ There should be more games like these in the world...

  • If u really like professor layton look up I simply do not care on YouTube and u will CRACK up laughing!

  • Holy..... LAYTON HAS EYEBROWS!!!!!! That's a shocker!!!!

  • Hmm? I'm sure the Luke in this video is definately different, he has a different accent to me and he doesnt sound the same. I'm British and the game I've got, he's got a totally different voice in all 4 games.

    Personally, I think the British Luke's cry in this scene was more emotional. I still cried though ;^;

  • @Pinky1babe Its Lani Minella in all four, though maybe the UK version is different--I doubt it, though.

  • I really cried on this one, It acutally did make me cry, literally.

I cried when They kissed, and Claire left and especially when Layton cried. Layton never cries, he's a gentlemen, and gentlemen always stay strong, especially Layton, like Claire said.

This was one of my favourite Professor Layton Games xxx

  • I really hope they make a new game concerning the problems in Luke's new home, and can someone please confirm that the last specter was a prologue to the series!?

  • @Henry00229 It is a prequel, yes. Unwound Future is the end of the trilogy, but now there is a prequel trilogy starting with Last Specter.

  • @Zeldarulah It states "To be continued" though, I think there could be a game that will start maybe a couple years in the future. It's just a guess, but I'm hoping there will be more games based with Layton with Luke as his apprentice....I don't like Emmy very much D:

  • As proof of how bad this game pulled my heart strings, I keep replaying the ending, hoping it will change. I can't believe it. Although the letter from Luke made me smile :')

  • I've cried so many times today... Playing professor Layton for to long 1st thing in the morning( not too good for the eyes), finishing the game, finding out the man across the road died, hitting my head really hard, watching something else on YouTube and watching this... Again! NOT MY DAY

  • pokemon mystery dungeons make me cry more

  • *SNIFF* *SNIFF* WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • I hope we will see Claire again in game 4, 5 or 6...

  • I remember playing this around a year ago.. :') I sobbed my eyes out, and even now, my eyes are watering :D I got the next game for Christmas, the prequel, so happy days :3 Its like so sad, I hope these games never end, the story, the graphics, the music, the actors and everything... probs my fave DS games :3

  • @kaykaysims2 I used to not play the DS that much before this game came out. When I saw the commercials for the first game on TV, I immediately went out to get it, and now I'm totally addicted to the story. ^^ My favourite character is Luke, and that's why I'm MegaLukelover! :) I hope these games live on forever. ♥

  • @MegaLukelover Same :3 I I I I I I I I started playing the spectres call last night :3 I loveee it :3

  • @kaykaysims2 :O I beat that game last week! I loved it so much! *avoids spoilers* Luke was so cute, but I thought he was kinda mean- in a timid way- at first. You're gonna love the ending!

  • @MegaLukelover loool, I finished it this morning, Ive been addicted >.> IT WAS LIKE SO CUTE OMG, the ending was so sad, I cried as usual :') and the ending after the credits and everything was just amaze. They better bring the next one out ASAP :DD

  • Hats Off to the ending theme composition and compilation team. Superb storyline, excellent graphics and to top it all off soothing music that touches the soul. Well Done Guys!!!!!!!!!

  • I haven't cried playing a video game in a long, long time...

  • T_T

  • This was so Heartbroken,I Didn't Cry That Day

  • Oh my god, every time I watch these two scenes, I think "Okay, this time I won't cry"

When the Professor loses it, I start tearing up. But it's Luke's line of "I'm sorry Professor, but I'm not a gentleman yet!" that makes my heart break.

AND THE MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND, OH GOD THE MUSIC. IT'S SO SAD. D:

  • i really ever feel like crying, i didn't even cry when jack died in titanic but this ending made my eyes water D: WWHHYYY??

  • I DESTROYED MY BRAIN SOLVING ALL THOSE PUZZLES FOR THIS DEPRESSING ENDING?

    WHY?????????????????? WHERE'S MY HAPPY ENDING?

  • @superman32101 ik, I cant wait for the sequel to come out in English :3 I wish the next game we had got had been the sequel, not the prequel :L

  • Its snowing, but there's green trees. Is it snowing ash?

  • @lilneopuppy I think this game has made you too observant. :)

  • Sorry professor, but I guess I'm not a gentleman yet. :(

  • To me lost future sounds better. :'( I cried when t said lost future it seemed to fit better because their future was lost and couldn't be retriened and the mystery was about the future they found it's sadder in the uk version to me :(

  • i cried at the end i keep wanting to cry when i see the end D'X

  • I like Claire's line.

Good bye to you... and our unwound future.

    OMG, MY HEART SANK!

  • No! I don't want to say goodbye again, I can't, I won't!

This line made so much impact to me...

  • I completely have no idea as to why this is called 'The Unwound Future' in America? Why can't it be called the same as it is here in the UK? I think the title 'The Lost Future' sounds better, and why have a different voice for Luke, yet everyone else is voiced by the same people?

The line that Claire says before she goes back to her time in the UK version is: "You won't forget me Hershel, our shared past... our lost future?"

Doesn't seem to flow as easily in this version :S

  • @ukmaxi I don't know why they're called different names, but the US gets the games first, but i do think "Lost future" has a nice ring to it.

when it came over here, us brits were cringeing at US Luke's "cockney" accent. (like in this scene. when luke started crying i was with him, sittin on my bedroom floor, crying my eyes out, but seeing this, it just made me laugh XD)

They'd have to change certain lines like claire goodbye, to actually make sense with the title.

    :) hope that helped

  • @msbloweverythingup Thank you for the reply, but my questions were rhetorical... And was stating how even with the change in lines to make them fit with the US title, it didn't flow as easily or nicely as the UK version. I'm English myself btw, i'm not American :P

  • O_O Luke's voice is completely different in the American version, he sounds about four!!

  • Start this video at 3:28. Simultaneously play Call Your Name by Daughtry.

A little added epic at 6:00.

  • @ChampagneButterflies I tried that :) Cool idea :)

  • This is one of the saddest game endings iv ever seen

  • I just hope that the villain Descole has a good reveal in most likely the 3rd game of the prequel trilogy. There must be a reason why Descole isn't present in these games right.

This Game made me soooooo cry. ;-( Hope they can top it eventually.

  • I love how Layton suddenly breaksdown with emostion, you totally feel he's pain. I think anyone came face to face with someone who they lost (despite how crazy that sounds) they would'nt want to let go again.

  • A gentleman does what he must, even if he doesn't want to...

  • @Foxy2199 he does? To the layton wiki page! There more researching to do!!

  • Luke: She's gone!

Me: Not gonna cry. Not gonna cry...

Layton: *sniffle* *sniffle* *tears running down face*

Me: Oh god I'm such a freaking wimp. WAAAAAAAAHHHH

  • This game has a very strong ending and it sort of makes you see Layton in a different light.

  • I managed not to cry at Luke and Laytons farewell but I felt really sad inside :'(

  • 10:34

HOLY CRAP STACHENSCARFEN IS AT THE BACK

  • Luke: Shes gone!

    Layton: NO SHIT SHERLOCK.

  • Professor: I don't want to say good bye again! I can't! I WON'T!

Me: WAAAAAAAAA! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! *Starts kissing 3DS screen*

    later on

Me:phew I'm ok, it's not too bad now

    *Layton and Luke's farewell scene*

    Me: Oh hell, WAAAAAAAAAA! WAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • I think I would have cried even harder if he grabbed claire's hand as she turned away and turned her back around and pleaded with her, and she said "I always love you, remember that.." And then she faded into light back to her time.

But this is enough sadness already :'(

  • I didn't know I was going to cry twice.

Claire: Our shared past, our lost future..

    Me: EHHHHHHHHHHHH /SOBSOBSOB

    *later*

Me: I'm alright, I'm not crying anymore.

Luke: I'M SORRY PROFESSOR I'M NOT A GENTLEMAN YET /SOBS

    Me: EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH /SOBSOBSOBSOB

  • @juicykiwigal Same D:

And Diabolical Box's ending too :'(

  • @juicykiwigal Honestly, this may sound cruel, but Luke's crying cheered me up! *sniff* ;)

  • @joeyhugg You're not alone :P Lukes crying cheered me up too?

  • I was in the car finishing the game(not driving) and my mom (the driver)got pulled over for speeding and the polce was looking at me oddly,I was crying.

  • The 2 things I ALWAYS look forward to in a Prof. Layton game is; 1. The Amazing orchestrated score. 2. The brilliant endings. This one in particular, I just about kept my composure and managed not to cry.

  • how would someone NOT cry at this moment?

  • if there werent ppl around me i would be crying right now......

  • Oh man, I was in the library at my university when I finished the game...bawling. Game that can make me cry? Damn...

  • Try to play this while listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird song.

  • Today I finished the game. It´s really took heart.

  • —starts bawling madly—

  • This is one of the only things ive ever cried over...

  • This is the first game I've ever played that brought me to tears.

  • No game has ever made me cry so much I had tears

  • @Iremembercardcaptors No it's simply logical. Bill is the prime minister and he has the executive previlege so no matter what he's done he can't be arrested until his term is over. Therefore even if the creators want to they can't send him to jail.

  • You know it's serious when Layton takes his hat off

    *sob*

  • @acicon no you know it's serious when he cries for the first time

  • I am trying my hardest to learn the ending theme on the piano. Even though its out of my level I am DETERMINED to learn it! I can play the melody on the alto sax :) I listen to this song EVERY day, its so pretty. I just loved this game, this is probably my 5th or 6th comment on this video

  • This is the most touching cinematic in the whole world of video games...

Poor Layton, I feel his pain... D:

  • Bill Hawks shoulda died instead of Claire :P

  • "...and our ...unwound future"

Wait what? That sounds terrible and not touching at all.

  • @Oscy

Umm, wow. Really? "Unwound future" is the name of the game o_o and you finally understand the meaning of what it means and what is referring to this whole time...how was that not touching?

  • @fd3 "Lost Future" is the name of the game, "Unwound Future" is the altered title that Americans always get in games for some reason.

  • *and in the original she says "lost future", which surely you agree makes more sense and sounds better.

  • @Oscy Well I like "Unwound Future" because it also can make sense, because she is talking about there future that never happened, they had many plans and it never could be rewound, but it was unwound..I don't know does that make any sense at all? Hmm... Yeah I think both titles make sense.

  • @WickedlyCheno15 I'm gonna have to disagree with you based on the effort that has to be put in to 'make it work'. 'Lost future' works as is. It's simple, and it hits you hard and fast.

'Unwound future' requires a hesitation thinking about it and 'making it work'.

  • My girlfriend cried at the ending.

    HA!

  • what happened to her? did she die or something and went to future to see layton?

  • SADDEST. TITLE DROP. EVERRRRRRRR

  • Professor Layton and the Tearjerker Endings

  • I love how the layton series go's from robots to swordfights to coin guns toooooo. MASSIVE DEVIL GENOCIDE

  • Can you upload the Last Specter's Ending?

It made me cry as much this one.

  • IF BEING A GENTLEMEN MEANS LETTING THE ONE YOU LOVE DIE THEN BEING A GENTLEMEN SUCKS!

  • Everytime I go back to this, my heart sinks a bit....

  • I have already watched this like 30+ times... I memorize all the lines in the final cutscene so sad, and I cry every time.... Such a beautiful ending... I love the ending theme too. It makes me feel all warm inside and its my favorite song to play on the saxophone :)

  • i hate to admit, but this is the first time i've cried over a game ending

  • I cry every time I watch this...

One of the best endings to anything ever.

  • I've watched this about 20 times now, and for some reason I've only cried once ._.

  • @SunnySummer153 You're not the only one ._.

  • How does this have dislikes???? This is so touching!

  • Personally I find Unwound Future the saddest game..

  • I can play the end credit song on my classical guitar <3 It makes me feel happy

  • Of the countless bittersweet partings in fiction, this is one of the very few which did not feel the least bit contrived to me.

  • Always find the epilogue sad... I just went through 3 games with these 2 together and now Luke goes? :'(

  • Honestly, I only play the games to watch the story.... I dnt even really try the puzzles...

  • Before the vid: "Ok... This is probably like... the tenth time I've watched this thing, I KNOW what they're gonna say and what's gonna happen. There is no WAY I'm going to cry/get close to tears this time!"

    ...

Just as Claire leaves: "DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT! Every time!"

  • Would it be alright if I used this copy of this scene for a fandub? I'd like to try to do Claire's voice :) I promise to give you credit

  • a) FFFFFFFFFFFFFF- The Claire and Layton thing is so freaking sad! Especially when Layton takes off his hat!

    b) I love watching the credits to the Layton games! Anyone else notice Flora's crazy cooking?

    c) Luke's departure is so sad, too! *sniff*

    d) The sad scenes are even sadder in the Japanese version!

    e) Layton and Luke 4ever! Seriously! They're the best duo ever!

  • a) FFFFFFFFFFFFFF- The Claire and Layton thing is so freaking sad! Especially when Layton takes off his hat!

  • Is it just me, or does Prof. Layton look less sophisicated without his hat?

Claire was right! It makes him look more like gentleman with his hat!

  • i am trembling and crying immensly right now, even though this has to be at least the 20th time ive watched this before, now. still the most touching and sad thing ive ever seen.

  • No.. Matter... HOW many times I watch the ending, there's always a point where my eyes get watery!

All and all, it was a great ending! And I can't wait to see more games if they come out with any :D

  • Professor Triton trilogy, anyone?

  • my mum caught me crying....

  • Who knew dot eyes could look so sad!?

    *cries*

    DX

  • its not sad to watch here but onece youve played through omg its so sad i actually cried

  • trust me this scene (please don't take this personally professa) is dwarfed in sadness by Hachiko the movie, that...pretty much forced the tears out of my eyes......

  • OMG...crying... who knew a video game could produce sucha mastrepiece of emotion like this one?

To Aska49, thanks for uploading this. How did you get the clips from the game onto here? It's amazing!

  • Im going to be honest.

I did cry here. Such a marvel of writing.

  • manly tears were shed ;_;

  • this is so sad i only finished the game yesterday and i just had to watch the last scene again!

  • The worst part? Bill Hawks still went unpunished.

  • A gentleman always keeps his composure in the worst of times.. And yet, Love will always find a way to change it all in a single moment.

  • @ToxieDogg me too I loved lost future better it's way more touching and makes you think of their shared past

  • WTF was that titanic im so confused now i only beat the first game i cant find the other one

  • Me: I'm not going to cry. I'm not going to cry.

    Professor Layton: You CAN'T GO! I don't want to say good bye again, I can't, I WON'T!!

    Me: FFFFFUUUU---- *crying*

  • sheesh, with that kinda ending,

people would use more tissue than marley and me.

don't call me insensitive but i usually din't cry at video-games.

  • ; A ; I couldn't wait until the end to see it, and now I'm just confused.. why did Luke leave the Professor..?

  • @AmethystBead He said his dad told him they are moving.

  • I was trying to hold back my tears when Claire turned around and left. When Luke yelled "Shes gone!" they started falling, and when Hershel cried and took off his hat, I was crying so hard I couldnt see.

  • wait so y did luke leave?

  • Manly tears...

  • This is how i feel about all this sadness happening to layton:/watch?v=EenmjYW6Rhc&feature=related And also have this to say this:WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Its just so dignified no screaming, or dropping to his knees or anything like that. Just quietly crying and taking his hat off, one of the most touching scenes I have ever seen.

  • @TheHood121 I'm crying in the inside, as I see that he is crying for joy and sadness, and it's snowing, which makes it even more touching....

  • This is the first time I have cried so hard over a video game.

  • And I didnt know the Professor Layton could get emotional too...
