i read somewhere in an interview that kim and thurston enjoyed watching the show, it was one of their guilty pleasures, so the producers must have contacted them to see if they wanted to make a guest appearance, which I find hilarious. I just can't imagine all of the 13 year old girls wondering who the hell these people were and what they were playing, because i imagine most of the gossip girl audience has never heard of sonic youth in their life, and they actually had a kind of big guest spot.
