I'm 35 and just had my first baby, I will buy the box set of bag puss if it's available and watch it with her including some of the other classics like willow the whisp.

It was somehow magical to watch.

I think it's wonderful and amazing. It has an elegance and class which modern shows can't even dream of attaining.

But there's something sinister about it...the black and white, the eerie string accompaniments...always scared me as a kid. I never knew if Emily was real or a ghost. Bagpuss himself was terrifying to me. Hahaha :)

Why is bagpuss incharge? All he does is sit their, its professor yaffal who works everything out and the mice who do all the work, bagpuss just says the odd comment. And who even gives a dam about Emily the narrators obsessed with? We know nothing about her! The narrators voice is so freaky and depressing. Can I ask are Madalin and Gabriel going out cause there always by each other?

You are not used to the fact that this is for children.

And just because two people are always beside each other, doesn't mean they're 'going out'.

As for Emily, she is a major charactor. It doesn't matter if you know nothing about her, she's a very important character on this beloved show. The narrator's voice is NOT freaky and depressing, it is how people narrated back in the 20th century, If you have a problem with Bagpuss then don't watch it.

Bagpuss is cute and sweet-still a little creepy though. It's not a problem, but now a happy, gentle cartoon like this would fail. Youtubers would make rape jokes at his every action (like "You Are a Pirate")

Yes indeed! If Bagpuss was on CBeebies ( a channel for babies and toddlers) today, amybe things wouldn't be as bad! I remember that Bagpuss changed me. I loved Bagpuss so much it turned me into a good kid.

I completely agree. There are so few quality programs on CBeebies now, or CBBC for that matter! This was one thing I shared with my grandfather, I learnt so much about him and life and everything through this show, I couldn't give it up and will make any children I am around as they grow up watch it!
